I want to see a bowl get cancelled and college football/ESPN deal with that fallout.9 points

Opening up the transfer portal before the end of the bowl season is ridiculous.8 points
-
I would love to see us and a dozen others do the same. That's where the rebellion happens. Hurt them at the bank!6 points

I know several on here have mentioned to move the transfer portal until after bowl games, but if a player has already decided to go into the portal, they still would just choose to sit out the bowl until the portal opens. The portal itself is the problem. It's pretty much killed bowls.5 points

After seeing a staggering number of players enter the transfer portal, the Marshall Thundering Herd is reportedly considering abandoning its place in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. If Marshall Pulls Out of the Independence Bowl, Which Team Will Replace Them? Marshall football opts out of Independence Bowl vs Army | Report4 points

Good. Maybe something will change if it affects ESPN’s pocketbook. You can’t sell advertising for a bowl game that doesn’t happen. It’ll take something that impacts a big wig’s pocketbook to enact some change. I really hope this is it.4 points

The thing is....there will ALWAYS be a QB available. And why wouldn't a good QB want to come play for EM and resurrect his career? (EXACTLY what Chandler Morris did) He hit on Chandler Rogers He hit on Chandler Morris I fully expect us to get a top notch QB in here for next year. Could be nice little strategy for the program...just fix the D a LITTLE and one of these seasons could be special. ** I'll add** And we can't think "oh man we got the next Mason Fine that's gonna bleed green and my kid will look up to him and want to be like this Mean Green legend." (which is exactly what my kids did with Mason Fine) They're hired guns to come in here and see if they can win. Then we do it all over again the next season. If we get a good QB in here, he will not be here more than a year. Just have to accept it. Johnny Quinn bleeds green and talks about UNT all the time in his career. There's pride there. Those days are gone....4 points

Losing a bowl game team because of transfers is another sign of disaster in the FBS. Bowl games are starting to feel like the first game of next season, not the last game of this one. Florida State hasn't been the same since 24 players opted out of the Orange Bowl and the left-behinds got beat 66-3.3 points

Heisman finalists: Hunter on his second school, Gabriel on his third school, Ward on his third school. Ironically, Jeanty is the exception and only one who's spent his entire career at a G5. We're not alone in this. It's just today's world.3 points

Probably because he doesn’t have a future here and Cobbs is “lauding” him for his character. Cobbs is a class act.3 points

Mockingbird station is like half a mile from the stadium if you want to park at one of the stations and take the train in.2 points

What a payoff for Army: finish 10-2, win your conference and get a 5-7 team in Shreveport.2 points

Bowl games have no meaning. When is G5 going to wake up and create their own playoffs?2 points

If it wasn't a service Academy that was affected, I'd probably just say they should cancel the bowl entirely.2 points

I also sometimes think I'm an idiot for watching UNT games considering the great games being played around the country.2 points

I freaking LOVE IT. The scam is up. If a team like Cincinnati get called up, how many those players have mentally shut it down for the year and would opt out? Why isn’t that a “safety concern”? I kind of want to see a wheels off Marshall team against a disciplined old school Army team. Maybe we will see 550 yards rushing. 😂2 points

Hopefully, this is a case where they can tell these players that we are here because we believe in you and then build on that relationship to get some of them to Denton2 points

Eleven players from SHSU's defense are in the portal. Ten of them were in their 2-deep as recently as the Jacksonville State game. Really hope some of them are locks to come over because otherwise I'm not sure who they're recruiting by coaching their bowl.2 points

I’ve been told many times that they have zero interest in being a FedEx-like sponsor of UNT sports, that they don’t want to make Dentonites feel like they’re choosing to support UNT more than TWU and that they know most Dentonites don’t care for our athletic programs. That’s straight from Chamber of Commerce members, past and present. Denton is the single worst place for a college football team to exist.2 points

Hayden Fry, not even close. He changed the whole program culture...created new, innovative marketing, found big donors like Rex Cauble, Willie Nelson and Bob Hope, inspired the city of Denton like never before or since. And he had never been an AD before this job at NT as both HC and AD.2 points

It blows my mind that Peterbilt/PACAR has been right down the road for 40 years now and we have cultivated what? Our leadership should push them to support us like Fed Ex supports Memphis. I mean they only achieved quarterly revenues of $9.08 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023. https://www.paccar.com/news/current-news/2024/paccar-achieves-record-annual-revenues-and-net-income/2 points

Didn't we try to land him out of HS and he chose another place or whatnot?2 points

Money talks. Loyalty often takes a backseat when you're talking about the kinds of money QBs make now in the new NIL landscape. The Mason Fine days are over unless NT stumbles upon a T Boone or Uncle Phil. It is what it is.2 points

Get a year under Morris. 1) Toss for 30-ish TDs. 2) Get an absurd NIL offer. 3) win at life?2 points

I’ll probably get downvoted, but that’s the way it should be in my opinion…for both players and coaches. Finish out the season that you signed on for.2 points

the bowl game is now full contact scrimmage for next year. See what backups can do or cant do. They lost their leading rusher which means nothing against our defense.1 point
-
Agree the winning must continue. But they did finish 7-5. No excuses for 5K and 6K attendance at FBS home games during a winning season that included beating ND.1 point

I'm going to disagree on Hunter being a lock. He's incredible but looking at the offensive side specifically, Colorado was loaded at the receiver position. You couldn't double team any one guy without another punishing you. Wester had nearly 900 yards and 10 TDs on 70 receptions. Sheppard is another who had 600 years and 6 TDs. Teams were putting 10 in the box to stop Jeanty.1 point

Actually he didn't do a lot on the return side (shocked by that actually, I would expect him to be a punt returner in the NFL) The crazy thing is he's done it quietly on the offensive side... He's not big, but they just can't guard him. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the #1 overall pick. I'm no Colorado fan but he was stop down to watch. He just takes over games....1 point

I've never supported the idea of shutting it down, but this kind of action is something that might finally start proving to me that we've only been dragging a dead horse around for the past 20 years with no chance of recovery.1 point

Thanks for that Google Maps pic @UNT 90 Grad. I guess they recently developed the parking lot and put in Burleson Park? Dang, new info right there. Sorry for the false alarm there y'all. It does look like in the pic that the area below the park is now parking and that whole area was under construction last time we were there. So maybe that should be open for tailgating? Watch it be 25' out on game day and all this will be moot. haha1 point

Did not end well due to complacency but RV brought the Athletic Programs up with some of his early hires and retentions.1 point

HouCat, appreciate your input and friendly banter. Your crew (literally your tailgate crew) will outnumber NT fans this year because: We can't afford bowl game pricing. We, with a long history of bowl losses, feel our 7-5 opponent doesn't merit playing a 6-6 team. We don't like the AD because he weakly addressed the NIL situation. We feel overmatched because our rent-a-QB (and WR, etc) cancelled his lease before the game and all remaining players, well, see the part about losing bowl games. We basketball. We tailgate, and $MU won't let us. And if they did, we would tailgate the whole game and not be in the stadium because, well, see the part about losing bowl games. We wanted to play in New Mexico or Shreveport or the Bahamas or Boston, or not Frisco. We don't want to play in $MU's house because, well, see the part about losing bowl games and because we never beat the team whose house we will be playing in. We can't afford to give NIL money so we can't overpay players on one year contracts that will require even more money to stay a second year. We don't like cold weather, or warm weather, or sunny or rainy weather. We don't like the uniforms that the players that aren't paid much decide they want to wear. We aren't willing to risk the chance that the $MU A/V system will be loud and will interrupt the band. Prove me wrong, good guys, or otherwise #FlameAway. HouCat, see you in Dallas. I'll be the one wearing green. And I hope to share a dram of a nice peaty, smoky Scotch with you. Inside and/or outside the stadium. GMG1 point

Just got refund on my tickets The mean green ticket office called and said the tickets I already purchased were not charged correctly and I needed to pay an additional $50 to keep the seats I already paid for. I told them to kick rocks and refund the entire amount.1 point
