True story, hopefully FRB got their act together and knows what's coming this year. We don't sip chardonnay like those Pony pansies do...10 points

Thanks for the warm welcome, I come in peace. Looking forward to renewing a rivalry that lasted for almost a hundred years (1915-1994). Fire away with any questions.9 points

I guess I somehow missed that he was even on Tulsa's staff. I love Lance, but I want to keep our present RB coach. Here's hoping he finds a good position.9 points

That's sweet he found a school that both he and his girlfriend can attend together.8 points

I love TxState on our schedule so much more than the HP Ponies. Ignore the "this is beneath us" idiots. I am excited for this game.8 points

I give monthly. Not a lot, but I give. I think about how much enjoyment I get out of Saturdays, this board, etc. It’s worth it to me to get to enjoy my Mean Green play in the postseason.8 points

Yeah, I don’t fault the players. I wish they’d stay, but some of that money is potentially life changing.6 points

Until contracts become a thing I will never donate a dollar to NIL. That's a horrible investment for a 1 year player6 points
-
Yup. I’d take 100 more just like him and his attitude he plays the game with any day. Rick6 points

It's a shot at his extraordinary effort. I don't think I've seen very many players at North Texas who were harder working and just plain tough. If not at RB, you've got to figure out a way to keep guys like him out on the field.6 points

We need a camera crew following one of these guys at the end of the season and documenting how all of this goes down. How they notified the coaches, discussions with their fresh out of college NIL agents, phone/email traffic from interested coaches and ultimately signing on the dotted line. 30for30 - ‘The Anatomy of the NIL Deal’6 points

NIL is killing College Football. NFL not the same as it once was either. Politics, money, no affiliation, no allegiance. Now College = cheer for the helmet, logo, school name. Players come and go. My interest is dying off and I am a sports fanatic. Every stadium in America has pictures of past players, hall of fame. Will that die? why would I vote for a kid that played at multiple schools for my HOF class? I love watching Morris play QB. but will I follow him to another school .. Nope. Do you think Oklahoma or TCU cares what he is doing at NT ? Kids used to get a college education, school for free, play sports, maybe find a future job. Now its all about the dollar. Why would I follow that behavior ? Why would I buy a jersey with a name on it ? I followed Peagram, Kassel, Cobbs, Mason Fine, Dunbar, Darden, Guyton, etc. ... because they played for our school .. not because they came for a year and left. It's a shame but I dont blame them .. Money isnt everything but its tough to live without it. System Sucks.6 points

I’m sorry but this is a bad take. Ya it sucks and I wish the portal didn’t open until after bowl season, but I can’t blame players for taking life changing money.5 points

Put more people like Porter in the locker room, with that attitude and toughness, and watch the rest take care of itself. Not that we don't need talent, too. But Porter is a great example of how sometimes those guys sitting 4th or 5th deep can still provide incredible value to the team and locker room.5 points

... and how much are these contracts worth, total? (105 roster spots... How do we pay for this? Keep in mind, you still have to offer scholarship & room-&-board to remain comparable in offerings) ... and for how long are each signed for? 1 year? (nothing different) 4 years? (laughable, unless the guaranteed money is beans... which, again, be prepared for intramural-level talent). I know it sucks we keep losing talented players, but if we voluntarily break from the same organization that the UT's/A&M's of the world are also a part of, it will be an unmitigated disaster.5 points

We had a good number of Texas State Fans just join the site and I would like to welcome them. We are looking forward to the game and discussing it with you here in more detail. Go Mean Green!4 points

I was speaking to my local high school's football coach about the current state of UNT football and my utter disgust with our current situation, and he asked how much money North Texas athletics gets out of me every year. I told him I'm not among the rich donors, but between the season tickets, t-shirts, concessions, and other adds and end, it's probably somewhere north of $2,000 a year. He quickly told me I should consider donating that money to their athletics. I'm not there yet, but the idea is growing on me.4 points

Thanks for your concern, but we still have plenty of posters on here @FirefightnRick Maybe instead of criticizing us you could join in the conversation once in awhile. I know a lot on here would like to hear your thoughts. GMG4 points

https://247sports.com/longformarticle/college-footballs-top-50-programs-ranked-by-nil-efforts-235181311/ We can bury our heads in the sand or we can face the ever changing landscape, but getting mad at young men for taking a giant chunk of money seems like the last thing we should be doing. Yes, I contribute, no it isn't much. I hope we can one day get to where we have a chance at retaining our best players and not losing them due to $4 points

How is it going to be a write off to compensate someone for their name, image and likeness? Even if you move away from NIL and make their compensation straight salary, I don’t see how our government is going to allow paying college football players to be a write-off. With everything going on in the world, you are going to incentivize people with the tax-code to pay college football players millions of dollars? It’s not a good look.4 points

The market HAS adjusted. And it’s gotten us here. Wait until the numbers from the playoff come out. ESPN and the big schools will be rolling in the $$$$$$$$$ And I can promise you they don’t care about the other 100 schools’ fans losing interest.4 points

If you are able, please consider setting up a recurring membership with the Light The Tower NIL. You can contribute as low as $10/month. Treat it as a Netflix membership to North Texas athletics. Our advantage is with our number of alumni. You don't have pledge a lot. But $10 here and there adds up. I don't blame you if you don't and will not give to NIL. Totally understand both sides of the argument. And I'm not saying your $10 would keep the next star QB around, but can it make the difference in keeping other players? Absolutely.4 points

Be The Team. Seize the opportunity. Be the Team that breaks the bowl drought. Be the Team that wins against the odds. Be the Team that rises up to shout “Enough.” Be the Team to finally win in Ford. Be the Team that gets fans cheering “AAC” in the 4th quarter. Be the Team that generates hope for the rest 2025. Be the Team that shows UTSA how it’s done. Be the Team that lifts a trophy within the first 3 days of 2025. GMG3 points

That part sucks. Seems like a few senior players families were upset on Twitter last night. I don’t blame them. It’s next man up, though. I’ll be there supporting the squad.3 points

No one is mad at the players, we’re mad at the system and the bleak future it holds in front of us as a G5. But you go ahead and waste and throw your money away. To each his own. Rick3 points

I would also like to make the argument that this bowl game fulfills the 'Necessary Roughness' trifecta: 1.) North Texas - home of the fictional Texas State school (all filmed in Denton) 2.) Texas State - the current namesake of the fictional team, but also, the only school that actually appears in the film 3.) Being played on the campus of SMU, the only school to suffer the 'death penalty' which is the premise the movie is about Can we rename this the Necessary Roughness Bowl?3 points
