Pretty good pickup.....in an area of need. Was committed to Tulsa......but signed with us. 6'3", 235. Some recruiting sites list him as a LB, but we list him at DL. Had offers from Indiana, Louisville, Nevada.....14 points

Caponi as a play caller was terrible, but he very well could have created meaningful relationships with these recruits. These are just kids, and maybe they connected well with Caponi on a 1-1 level. Personally don’t see the need to bash them9 points

Should fit that hybrid DE/LB role. Hopefully Zhaiylen Scott stays because I think he’s a perfect fit as well. Better fit in Cassity’s front than he was in Caponi’s7 points

I read it as Keeler is making 1.6 million at Temple.7 points

You realize I'm comparing Temple's 2022 salary to our 2023 salary when Morris apparently took less to give his assistants more? If you want to compare apples to apples, in 2022 we paid Phil Bennett 325k, about 200k less than Temple paid their DC the same year. Drayton was in year 1 of his contract and made what SL made in year 6 of his plus they were paying a buyout for another coach bringing their total pay to football HC at $3.5 million for the year. The school has more money than we do. If Keeler really wanted Cassity, they could have paid more more than we could. I mean, they just fired a coach with an average salary of $2.5 million per year and in year 1 of Keeler are paying $300k more than we're paying Morris. Why is this so complicated? God forbid somebody ask questions and bring facts around here. I'm not upset my guy wasn't picked, I'm upset we're taking another chance at inexperience. You can have young talent on your staff but there needs to be a balance of experienced guys too. This is an important year. Make or break for Morris and us as fans. Either we have success, or he's a lame duck and we're looking at another 2-3 year rebuild with a new HC. Regarding JD, I have nothing against the guy. I don't know him. I'm sure he's a great man who means well. I'm just not going to buy everything somebody says without names to these sources. I'd like to know who said Temple tried to get Cassity but he wanted to come here instead. Knowing Morris' seat is likely heating up and Keeler will have at least 2 years in Temple before his heats up, does it really make sense for him to go where the seat is already warm? There's more to that story.6 points

Why bash JD? He puts in work and delivers a lot of quality content. JD has a lot of connections in the program/CFB landscape. Our fan base needs more people like him. I understand you're upset because Morris didn't choose your guy, but it's ridiculous to take a shot at JD's reporting.6 points

I think a guy that would have torn it up, in Cassity's system.....would have been Mazin Richards. He was so good his junior year, then Caponi and the new system.....turned him into a non-entity.5 points

“I have extremely high expectations for our new defensive unit, and I believe this is the right place to achieve those goals. I look forward to competing for championships, and I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe Coach Morris was the guy to lead us in that direction. My work has already started, and I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone in the Mean Green family.”5 points

My cousin has been a loyal booster for Sam Houston for a long time. Back in the early eighties I took many a trip to Huntsville for football and basketball games with him. He is still active and traveled with the team to several games this year. He told me today that their defense is what kept them in many games this year. He said this hire should be a nice one for us. He said Keeler was good to head back to Pennsylvania and also they upped his salary a million over what he was making. Maybe now at 1.65 points

Lmao AI doesn’t yet realize the NCAA is a paper tiger. They may have a rule in place but they’re not regulating or policing NIL deals. NCAA is too worried about lawsuits and the potential total collapse of their amateur-athlete business model.4 points

Read between the lines and it has to be asked: did the Tulsa coaches knowingly lie about their NIL offers when recruiting these players? Cuz that's what I interpret this as.4 points

Others have plugged it already, but seriously - if you want to be in the know, $5 is nothing for the best info you can find and normally well before it's officially announced or discussed. https://patreon.com/NorthTexasEagle3 points

I can't believe there's this much gnashing of teeth over Utah State. Once everyone gets into the heart of their conference schedule, they'll drop some in NET, even if they keep winning, as power conference teams' SOS steadily increase. But, they were a 28-win at-large tournament team last year who easily beat TCU in the first round. They finished the season ranked 22 in the AP poll. Their NET ranking right now, while maybe a little inflated (which is a necessary symptom of small sample sizes), isn't really THAT out of line with perception. They are 8-0 and probably will get to 11-0 before they face three tough road games in a row. The other day I mentioned a few kinda/sorta under the radar non-power-conference teams to keep an eye on, and I didn't even mention Utah State because I thought that was obvious. Falslev is no joke...3 points

It's actually 3.75 in Philly. Again, not that big of a hit, but adding in the fed 35%, the additional 60k is now closer to 36k and the higher cost of living will eat up a large portion of that.3 points

For those leaving because Caponi is no longer here…good riddance. If they couldn’t see how terrible they were, that’s on them.3 points

Well guess what? Pennsylvania has a 3% flat income tax on top of the fact that Philadelphia is infinitely more expensive to live in than Denton. But I guess you didn't factor that in. On top of living away from your entire family and the place you call home.3 points

I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying the ACC and Big XII are still a long way from getting the respect the SEC and Big 10 get.3 points

Would you say Keeler made a bad hire if he convinced Cassity to come to Philly? Because he tried.3 points

No one has forgotten the Dodge years. We have gotten progressively better as a program since, with Mac and Seth raising the profile and expectations of the program. We fired a coach who had done fairly well (not great but better than his predecessors) and made a conference championship game. By doing so, the administration told the fans and college football in general that NT expected more from itself as a program. Then we hired a relatively inexperienced HC who hired a completely inexperienced DC, which undid all the good of hiring a hot coaching name in Morris and negated the offensive success. So no one has forgotten where we were. We are trying to get were we needed to be - where this AD told us we were going. We are tired of waiting to get there.3 points

Littrell proved he was exactly a .500 coach, I can't believe many fans thought it was a bad decision to terminate him. Morris had the biggest roster change of any D1 coach last year, basically lost most of NT's better than average players. There are a lot of posters here that believe NT has unlimited funds to buy out contracts and at the same time continue to fund the football program and buy players through NIL, I wish that were true. I am fine with Morris being the HC next year, however I hope he has to win at least 7 games to remain here.2 points
-
that must have felt weird for Wren to actually fire someone, since he never fired anyone at UNT, just let contracts expire2 points

Then my people and I would have to take over the program. Many of my people are from Sicily, capece?2 points

So if he fails, we're looking at another 3-4 years of mediocrity with a rebuild and all. Great. Just not the hire we needed right now in my opinion.2 points
-
Just saying, I'm surprised he's going even younger and greener than his first hire who was a total disaster. Morris has to win next year, so trusting the defense to a 30 year old with only 1 year of full time experience at the FBS level is eye opening. And top 20 is impressive, but I think its fair to acknowledge the offenses he faced in CUSA are a far cry from what he'll see in the AAC. Our defensive ranking would be vastly better if we replaced Memphis, UTSA, and Tulane with FIU, La Tech, and Kennesaw State.2 points

A position coach and a coordinator are two completely different things. I don't even care about age, I care about on the field success. He's been a DC 3 years. First year was average, 2nd year was horrible, 3rd was good. Does that really justify hiring him?2 points
-
What's the excuse for his ACU defense finishing 117th in FCS in 2023? This is a laughable hire. No way to spin it.2 points

First of all, I was kidding. But second of all....I do get sick and tired of the de-commits and transfer portal guys......all throwing their religion in their goodbye tweets. AGTG (All Glory To God). Prayerful consideration. It's such nonsense. (not religion, I'm a believer). But just the way they use it in their de-commit or transfer portal tweets.2 points
