Yeah.....many of us did mention Keeler last year. I guess Moseley thought we were saying "Keebler." I really feel for SHSU. Their first bowl game ever.....and this puts a damper on it.12 points

It's on the Patreon. Out of respect to JD, I'm not going to name the guy. But I think some people will be happy. Others will complain, because that's what they do.8 points

This thread has some loser talk that rivals some of the legendary loser-talk threads on this board. I wanted Seth to beat UTSA even if it meant more Seth. I wanted them to win the CUSA title game even if it meant more. Do we want to win or to be right on the internet? I want them to win. I don't like mixing up Seth LIttrell's tenure and Eric Morris'. Morris, the admin, and the roster etc all made a mistake in trying to keep the good from the old and turn what was there into a winning team. Morris said he made that mistake. He had to change the entire roster. That had to wait a year. So we are essentially in year one. I've written a ton that the roster is filled with youth and underclassman. I see a lot of others have made this same point in this thread. It is true. Some of us gave money 15 years ago in the hopes of this or that but that doesn't mean you can turn a handful of freshman into AAC champions. Quinton Hammonds, Brian Nelson, Landon Sides, Wyatt Young, Mercer, even McGill are all contributors. It goes on and on. The dudes making freshman mistakes were well, freshman. The upperclassmen guys we needed to do some leading and carry things? Well Chandler Morris did that and a couple of DLmen, but a lot of others were hurt. Some just didn't produce. The foundations for next year begin in this recruiting cycle. Morris will discuss the signings on Dec 4 -- we'll know if he has some solid incoming guys. We know he can bring in talent. I like that they improved the DL for this season -- it was worse last year -- but they need more. They need more OL, too. They need more playmakers all along the defensive side. I put some of that on the last coaching staff. Seth had missed hard on defense for about 5 years. He rotated through a bunch of dudes with no luck. We had a patchwork defense with which Bennett did the best he could. The defense has been bad. Morris has made a move to change that. Whoever comes in -- I think we'll see a hire fairly quickly these next couple weeks -- will have a summer to find guys to plug in the holes -- DL, Linebacker, rush end. Is that enough? Dunno. Morris will be looking for experienced, play-making WRs I can tell you that. A Damon Ward who doesn't have the yips and can stay on the field.7 points

SHSU was 9-3. Seven of their wins were against teams with non winning seasons. Keeler was 2-3 against winning teams. As I read the board, for man, those are the wins that count.7 points

For clarification purposes, Zach Simmons committed to UNT's prior coaching staff while Hodge/McCasland were still at Arkansas St. They did conduct a home visit after they arrived to convince him to stay.6 points

Why don't we lend our facilities out more often for high school playoff games? That goes for DATCU, the Super Pit, and even the soccer stadium. Getting more unaffiliated families on our campus and in our venues can only help.6 points

I call BS on anyone here that would not have accepted a 200-300k to go finish your football career and get a degree from Cal Berkeley instead of UNT. He was not ever going pro but that money and degree will potentially put him on a better path. disclosure: I have no idea what he was paid but I think that would be a reasonable sum in the current market for a G5 to P4 QB.4 points

Rivalries are bigger opponents. They are hard to win. They make you feel mad. Its just that our rival is apathy and has gone about 75-0 against us in football.4 points

SMU's upturn started two years before NIL opened up. The biggest key is the free transfer rules amd the strategy to go after local players at top programs to come home for more playing time, to help out baby momma, etc. NIL definitely amped it up. But we aren't money whipping alone. We have a big time payroll but we aren't in the A&M/Ohio St/etc universe. The money just removes the golden handcuffs of under the table money that was keeping them at top programs (especially OL and DL). ACC membership is huge too. UNT could be running some of this playbook, BTW. More than enough DFW players looking to get on the field.4 points

Not a bet, but maybe the ideal choice: the Hawaii Bowl. The players would be "rewarded" with a great trip, there would be no need to make excuses for the lack of attendance, and the opponent (obviously not Hawaii this year) might be another 6-6 team (and hopefully not a blowout).4 points

I’m not saying that he’s John Wooden 2.0: just that he is a great up-and-coming coach who is producing strong results and it is fun to be a fan of his team.4 points

I did articulate an opinion and you countered with your opinion. I am not asking that they all play together at once, but give them 5 or 6 minutes. Vice will score as much at Sissoko as and Cotton/Mason as much as Massey right now. Give them some experience in small bites and increase their minutes over time.4 points

Former UNT assistant coach Freddie Kitchens (the Dickey years)....has been named interim HC at North Carolina.3 points

I think Appy State will regret this move. When teams fire someone for not winning enough at places like Appy State, it usually backfires. USM fired Jeff Bower after he finally had a losing season, then went 0-12 under the replacement. La Tech has fallen off after firing Skip Holtz. FIU did the same thing when they fired Mario Cristobal way back when.3 points

basically heading into December, I think this is a pretty good way to look at the league, KenPom through 12/1 games in (): Tier 1 - Memphis (31) - I know everyone will be quick to point out their collapse last season...I suppose it could happen again, but this team looks built different. they'll head into December ranked while presumably no one else will even receive a vote. Tier 2 - UNT(66) ; Wichita State (88) - both schools have quality wins over Big 10, WCC, A-10 and MVC schools...nothing really to blink at too much in their losses. Tier 3A - Rice (164) ; East Carolina (123) - call this the over-achieving tier. Rice has a good win now over ASU...hung tough with Florida State. ECU has yet to play an actual road game and their loss looks pretty mid, but 7-1 is 7-1 so far. Tier 3B - FAU (105) ; UAB (137) - call this the under-achieving tier. FAU look like Memphis last season...a solid collection of talent that isn't playing as a team...case in point, they went 52-26 to lose by 2 to FGCU. I don't know what to make of UAB. still, despite early struggles, both these will be tough Ws Tier 4 - Temple (114) ; South Florida (138) - both just look solid if unremarkable. both have some testers in December and it'd be a big benefit to the conference if they can pick up some good wins. Tier 5 - Tulane (226) ; Charlotte (204) ; Tulsa (215) ; UTSA (263) - there's very little to like here. nothing approaching a quality win and each with some pretty bad loses. I almost just made a separate tier for UTSA, but I'll be kind for now since the resumes here all look so similar. UTSA goes to Cali to play St. Mary's Tuesday and then to Fayetteville for ranked Arkansas on Saturday (who made their schedule?)...so once they get drubbed by 30 in each, maybe they'll earn their own tier3 points

SMU got the death penalty because they were incredibly stupid back then. When the NCAA announced new cheating rules in 1985 that included the death penalty as the most severe potential punishment, SMU responded by phasing out payments to players instead of ending them immediately. At least one of those players got kicked off the team and spilled the beans in a TV interview. Now SMU thinks it deserves revenge because it was told not to piss on an electrified fence and did it anyway. Mustang nation would be smarter to leave the past in the past and enjoy the run they're on.3 points

I’m kind of hoping we play TxSt so many on here can see that they won’t “beat us down” (or various other ways of saying they will beat us bad) or that I can be proven wrong if they do. I never thought I’d see the day that we are scared of TxSt, especially when I don’t see a reason that we should be. We’re scared of a 7-5 team from the Sun Belt????3 points

Jerry Moore replaced Hayden Fry for 2 seasons before moving on to Texas Tech in 1980 with a 12 & 12 record. North Texas has fired every head football coach since. This job is a mill stone, not a stepping stone.3 points

We essentially tripped backwards into what will be the worst bowl game thanks to temple being god awful. Half the teams get a bowl game. If this is "being on the right track" then I think I would like to take another train3 points

it would mean the ADs office would actually need to work to attract other events, as well as the UNT Administration3 points

sure. so maybe it's just semantics, but nothing above equates to "elite" for me. both from the standpoint that "elite" is rarified company and too when we start using language like that the @untbowler's of the board will show up only after every loss to blame our deified coach and the AD that didn't go after Will Wade I guess. just trying to help keep ten toes on the ground for everyone and make sure the basketball conversation stays intelligent and not at all resembling the football forum.3 points

It's all NIL. If they weren't able to publicly pay players, they would still be the joke of the NCAA.3 points
-
Considering what he has done with the resources at his disposal, that is “elite”. He had a 146-24 record as a head coach in junior college with a national championship runner-up season. You don’t think he had elite players? At North Texas, he was the primary recruiter of Zach Simmons and somehow kept a great player at the hardest position to fill in college basketball at North Texas for his entire career. Last year, he somehow convinced the 2nd and 3rd best players from a NIT winner to stay at North Texas despite much higher NIL offers elsewhere. This year, he dipped into the transfer portal again and has assembled a team off to one of the strongest starts in program history. That is elite. What do you think a guy like that could do with an even bigger NIL budget?3 points

Essentially, this is the SL philosophy all over again. I mean, we are who we are and this is probably all the administrators are looking for…being just good enough to qualify for a low-tier bowl game. And, despite next year’s schedule, I just don’t have the confidence in an EM led club to mark wins down on stone. He looks lost, out coached and well in above his head. Everyone seems to have adjusted to the air raid…except for EM.2 points

Realistically speaking, if we win a bowl game this year, and go another mediocre 6-6 next season but win another bowl game, I think he sees a Year 4. He would have 40% of UNT's all-time bowl wins. But look at next year's schedule: Home vs. Lamar, South Alabama, Washington State, Navy, South Florida, Temple, UTSA Away at Western Michigan, Army, Charlotte, UAB, Rice #Hit6 should be lower than the floor with that schedule. We should be competing for a spot in the CCG.2 points

Is this a serious question? His defense (barely) held Temple…TEMPLE…to few enough points for us to sneak out of the pillow fight of the year.2 points

No, Texas State fans shouldn’t be bitter and neither should we. Texas State fans love GJ Kinne and their team right now. They are pretty excited to be a G5 and experience everything that comes with that, including going to 4th tier Bowl game like Frisco. I don’t get why so many North Texas fans hate our team this season. This wasn’t a great season, but hope exists that a great season could be right around the corner.2 points

He did a nice job today, but I think there needs to be a fresh face. Someone that can bring some life into the program and also bring in some of his current players.2 points
