This team struggled to hang on to a 21-point first half lead today. This North Texas team didn't beat a single team that finished with a winning record this year. So, I'm not buying them beating a team with a winning record in a bowl. I wish I could believe, but I just haven't seen anything that might give me hope.14 points

SMU knows their strengths and plays to them. Kudos to them. No different in the private sector- you gotta pay for talent, who otherwise wouldn't go to your company. They paid players sure, but Dykes slowly established a recruiting infrastructure that Lashlee expanded. Decent coaching matters too. We haven't beaten SMU since 2018- and the games haven't been close. I'd love for us to even have 1/10 of the infrastructure SMU does.6 points

SMU has one thing going for them, they can buy their way to success. This is true in football and life; take away the money and they’re just the betas we all know they are.6 points

He did a nice job today, but I think there needs to be a fresh face. Someone that can bring some life into the program and also bring in some of his current players.6 points

New Mexico Bowl would be my preference, but I’ll show up and support UNT no matter where they play their bowl. I’m excited for the team, band, cheer team and dancers for the opportunity!6 points

Okay how about all the grumpy fans that donate and go to games just stop complaining take their money and time and support something else? By my calculations about 5-10k undergrads are giving the players the 🖕🏾 disguised as empty seats at games. To the eye roller reaction: what do you suggest? Have you ended up wasting season tickets money because you couldn't drag any of your friends or family to a game on a GOOD WEATHER Saturday? Genuinely curious.6 points

Our first bowl win in a decade? Yeah, it’d be a big deal.6 points

Yes. UNT can be an upper tier G5 program. Very few G5's have the combination of location, resources, etc. From all indications, however, there is not an institutional or administrative desire to win at a high level. Until that happens it'll be Frisco Bowl levels of success.5 points

This is the first time I tried not commenting during a game, and it was tough. It was also a good thing because there was a lot of frustration midway through the second quarter all the way to the end. Basically, the EM era has continued to disappoint me and can’t end soon enough. Just frustrating watching a poorly coached, undisciplined team. Seeing poor offensive play calling when it is supposed to be our main attraction. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s only got 5 plays in his playbook with 2-3 being screens. He’s so predictable at calling plays. He’ll run on 3rd down and throw a screen on 4th. Most don’t work because defenses are expecting it. Anyways, congrats to the kids for hanging tough through this season as many times these coaches tried to lose it for them.5 points

I don’t understand the fear of TxSt. Yeah, they beat UTSA bad early in the year, but they’re 7-5 and recently lost to 3-9 Georgia St. I wouldn’t guarantee a win against them, but I sure wouldn’t guarantee a loss either.5 points
-
Yeah, winning a bowl game is still a big deal around here.5 points

If you are stating that .500 teams should not go to bowl, I agree. However, if .500 are allowed in bowls, than NT absolutely deserves to be included.5 points
-
Feel free to stop by the locker room and let these guys know. you don’t have to like how the season went (most don’t). You don’t have to think the coaches did the job that was expected of them (most don’t). But you can’t S on the players for achieving and celebrating a milestone, no matter how unworthy you think it might be. Be better.5 points

Unless there's a very clear reason to, like Todd Dodge kinda seasons, I'm a firm believer in giving a guy 3 seasons. He's no better or worse so far than Coach Taylor, so bowl or not I'm fine with seeing what year 3 brings.5 points

RL's extension puts him north of $6m a year through 2031. He's not going anywhere unless its a true blue blood (top 10-12 programs in the country from a prestige perspective). Above poster is correct. Its about money. The billionaire lot finally has a taste of success and now the floodgates are officially open. Basketball has a Top 10 recruiting class. Football on the cusp of a CFP run. School if fully committed to winning at the highest level. The sleeping giant is wide awake and ready to seek vengeance on the most egregious and unfair penalty ever handed down to a college program. 40 years worth of revenge about to be unleashed.4 points

It's all NIL. If they weren't able to publicly pay players, they would still be the joke of the NCAA.4 points

we finished 9 th in the conference, should we really be in a bowl game?4 points

No, Texas State fans shouldn’t be bitter and neither should we. Texas State fans love GJ Kinne and their team right now. They are pretty excited to be a G5 and experience everything that comes with that, including going to 4th tier Bowl game like Frisco. I don’t get why so many North Texas fans hate our team this season. This wasn’t a great season, but hope exists that a great season could be right around the corner.4 points

In Frisco vs Toledo or Northern Illinois again, both of which will be favored over us because neither got blown out by 45 by anyone or needed a win over an FCS program to get their 6th win. Rick4 points

I can’t root against my team. Just can’t do it. I’m frustrated. I want better. But a ball game means a whole lot, not just to the football team, but the band, the dancers, the cheerleaders, and everybody else who participates. With all due respect, it isn’t about what the fans want, it’s about creating opportunities for the students. God knows I get as frustrated as anybody, but I just can’t get there, rooting against this team to fail, even if at a fan it set up a potential better tomorrow. It’s about the students first. Us alumni and fans have to come second.4 points

I feel the same way, but given the choice of Frisco or staying home, give me the bowl and hope for the best.4 points

Texas State in Frisco would probably sell out. Texas State fans aren’t as bitter as us and are still excited about football.4 points

it would mean the ADs office would actually need to work to attract other events, as well as the UNT Administration3 points

Realistically speaking, if we win a bowl game this year, and go another mediocre 6-6 next season but win another bowl game, I think he sees a Year 4. He would have 40% of UNT's all-time bowl wins. But look at next year's schedule: Home vs. Lamar, South Alabama, Washington State, Navy, South Florida, Temple, UTSA Away at Western Michigan, Army, Charlotte, UAB, Rice #Hit6 should be lower than the floor with that schedule. We should be competing for a spot in the CCG.3 points
-
He ain't wrong though. Now that you can rent a team every year, the wealthier schools will be able to purchase their CFP spots. I just want to watch good football with some parity. Not someone who's hanging out for a bigger paycheck each year. It's just not fun college sports.3 points

I would say NIL is 2nd or 3rd depending on how you break apart staff responsibilities. I'd say on field coaching is 1, talent evaluation/scouting is 2 (I work with a guy who did HS scouting for Alabama and this goes beyond the coaches), NIL is 3, facilities is 4. You could give Eric Morris and Caponi unlimited NIL funds and we would not be in the conference championship game. Michigan, Florida State, USC, and others show it's not as simple as buying players.3 points

It’s not a repeat because this year we bowl. We improved from last year. I’ll take it. Hope our bowl and my schedule align. GMG3 points

So since they beat one more FBS school than us we should be scared of them? Plus, their strength of schedule is worse than ours. Similar, but worse. edit to add: They never had a 3 game stretch anywhere close to our Memphis, Tulane, Army stretch. edit part 2: They lost to 2 teams with losing records. We didn’t lose to anyone with a losing record.3 points

Boy, you really need the last word on this, don’t ya? The 6A bands making state finals are the best funded. Period. As someone in “the biz”, you know this. Sufficed to say, this former member of this band is proud of how the current generation represents us and our school. It is quite clear you don’t. Your vote has been recorded. Your expert opinion fully delivered to all. Your foul language has made your point with intellect and class. Congrats. Go Mean Green! Go Green Brigade!3 points

We must be watching different bands. The band is fantastic. Sorry you don’t enjoy them this season. I’m sure you donated to the fundraiser for new horns promoted multiple times this season, since you’re so passionate about the band?3 points
-
Any bowl situation but this... North Texas fans will stay home. Texas State will travel and have a home field advantage in our backyard. And we will lose. Morris has not beaten a team with a winning record this season. I pray the AAC has enough sense than to hurt our conference by arranging this match-up.3 points

I think the band is fantastic. The show was amazing this year, the band was loud in the stands and I thought the pregame was fantastic. I wonder how many complaining have donated to the Brigade or contributed to the program. The drum line is clean, the horns are loud. There were some coordination issues with the press box/dj’s this year, but I know the time these kids put into band. It’s massive. I’m a proud alumni of the Green Brigade, and I’m proud of how the band represents us old-timers today. Thank you, Green Brigade, for supporting the team and your school, and for the dedication you show week in and week out.3 points

My apologies as I didn’t meant to strike a nerve. Wasn’t my intentions and was out of line. I chose my words poorly and didn’t mean to take a shot at Rudy. Just didn’t want any shots taken at those kids, directly or indirectly. this has been a crap season for all of us, none more so than those in that lockerroom. Guess I just got a little verklempt 😂 when I saw them celebrating with shirts after the game. Had to be a huge weight lifted from their shoulders. again, my apologies and GMG.2 points
