Football season ticket holder here that normally starts going to b-ball games once the calendar flips to the new year & my schedule opens up. But since UNT is a #basketballschool now, starting earlier this year. First off, anyone agree with this assessment? When I go to football games I'm just waiting for the proverbial kick to the nuts in the second half. East Carolina was a perfect microcosm of this. Oh look! We're up 21-0!! What are we going to do to blow it? And sure enough, we do. Over and over again. With basketball, I feel the exact opposite. Whether it's Minnesota, Oregon State, etc, what are we going to do to win it? And more times than not, we do!! Clutch, clutch, clutch. Well done team! I love it. Really liked the game presentation too. The only thing I've noticed is it seems the pep band is getting less "air time" if that makes sense at the expense of giving the hype guy more exposure. Kinda an ass-whip if you ask me. "SOMEBODY MAKE SOME NOOIISE!!!!!", "EVERONE SCREAM HELL YEAH!!!!". We can be loud on our own without being told, thank you very much. It s almost like a warm-up act before he heads down to Dallas for his 2nd job at Baby Dolls. With that solid radio DJ voice he can then bark out "EVERYONE SCREAM HELL YEAH!! AND GIVE IT UP FOR DESTINY ON THE MAIN STAGE!!!!". Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about there. 🤣🤣 Happy Thanksgiving all and Go Mean Green!8 points

I enjoyed the overall presentation too. One gripe kind of related to your second paragraph though. A spontaneous 'North Texas' chant broke out in the second half; I think it was right after Oregon St called time out when we went up 53-46. It would have been a really cool moment if the chant were allowed to get bigger. Instead it got drowned out by in arena music and the next paid promotion. So, just being more cognizant of those moments, and they don't happen too frequently, would improve the game experience. I should mention that they have stopped before to let North Texas chants build up; the game against Memphis last season comes to mind.5 points

I am! I was going through some stuff and found a bunch of unused gift cards and I think there’s enough to cover it!5 points

When asked if his team still had confidence, his yes didn’t seem so confident to me. It also seemed like he’s feeling the restlessness of the mean green faithful.5 points

Unfortunately, I feel like pep bands all over the country are largely getting sidelined for the DJ music and "Let's make some noise!" kinda stuff. It's definitely not unique to NT.4 points

What have you seen that honestly leads you to believe that EM has a clue, MUCH LESS can turn this around? He's football Benford.4 points

Haha they have naming rights to the title of their HFC? That’s so lame. CFB has just totally jumped the shark.4 points

Just 23 months ago we went toe-to-toe against BSU in the Frisco Bowl. Now they are actually looking at a first round bye in the CFP and we're sitting at #97. Crazy to think about what can happen in such a short amount of time.3 points

You are correct, sir! Change "Panthers" to "Mean Green" and this post could be copied and pasted onto the NT football forum: "Well, its a team with a pulse, so until I see otherwise I expect us to lose. Either get completely obliterated, or get killed in the 1st half only to make a valiant comeback in the 2nd and lose close. Moral victory champions until they can prove they can beat good teams. Prove me wrong Panthers."3 points

The "finish the season strong" ship has sailed. You aren't going to impress Transfer Portal Players with a win over a bad 3-8 Temple team and win in a bowl over a team they don't want to go to. And I am not sure that at 6-6 we get a bowl invitation. Best case scenario we see only incremental improvement next year with a capped ceiling at 7-5.3 points

EM fired the DC to save himself. If he didn’t see our defensive struggles last season, well, he would be the only one. I can’t imagine it happening, but I’d love to see Mack Brown here. If only for a season or two.3 points

The dislike for Coach O is incredible and this just shows what type of fans we truly have. His job is to get interaction with high school players and coaches and he's done a better job of that than anyone in the history of this school. His job is to get them looking at us and willing to talk to the school and that is happening.2 points

Yes, that's how close we are.....er, were. I love chaos in the CFP. Until they do like all other Playoffs and let all Conference champs into the Playoff, it will be bogus!2 points

If you are bored one afternoon go to the athletic department list of personnel and give each one a call. I bet you will get nothing but answering machines. This is not very touchy feely from the athletic department.2 points

Not an underated comment. Just the underrated truth. Top of the Texas market Academic Department Chair Salary is less than 320k. ( I found no reference that listed the top of market over 290k ) This why I will never get mad a players for wanting to get paid. If your average Division I AD was paid less than 400k and football coach less than 350k we wouldn't be paying players and more of the upper teir recruits would value the education the University's provide.2 points

We created steals and fast breaks and then acted like we didn’t know what to do. Have to clean up the transition offense. Wright has difficulty creating his own shot off the dribble. Jossell saves the day. Great catch and shoot player, but again has trouble creating off the dribble. All fixable. I trust we will continue to gel as we get games under our belts.2 points

EM will cook in year 3. He said that’s when it took off at Wazzu. Win on Saturday. I don’t care if it’s by only 1 point. Let’s bowl and invite Cougar Q to our bowl game. Plus coaches that get fired need some time off between gigs. Their heads need reset between grinds. EM, McGuire and Aranda are 3 of a kind to me. They all drive their fanbases to the brink then figure it out. 2025 will be special. But first I want to bowl. GMG2 points

Exactly, unless we are going to pay unrivaled G5 coaches salaries for proven coaches this is the way to go. Most people aren't in depth knowledgeable college football fans. And I sincerely believe that none of the coaches besides the top 20% really provide more value to the program than they are paid in salary. The Mean Green Football brand doesn't recruit well by itself. So either we need to get into a P4 conference or do something substantial over a 3 year period to change that. The extensions for Littrell was just stupid and we kept him an extra year to hire a clone just with some FCS head coaching experience. This program just does dumb stuff which makes all the losing insufferable. I know if were this bad at my job with clearly bad decisions creating these kinds of results year by year not only would I likely lose my job. The company I am high up in the chain of command of would probably have massive layoffs. I do think if we could get a coach that has done something significant at P4 program South of Mason Dixon line in the past decade-15 year it might would worth paying 10%-20% more than what we normally pay. The opposite direction would be lowering ticket prices and playing just one "money game" a year and just hiring a "good coach" with "decent resume" like a Morris or Littrell.2 points

The ironic part is we are known as a "Music School" so you would think we'd have a similar set up as either Ohio band. A band with a marching pedigree that went back decades.2 points

This is the Stockholm syndrome that is NT fandom. Right here. And I totally understand. We’ve made underwhelming hire after underwhelming hire… then make a good one, but even he peters out. Why would we ever assume NT can make a good hire, right? It’s not like there aren’t a ton of examples of G5 schools that experience instant turnarounds. Why can’t NT find the right guy like these other programs do?2 points

I dug into this. Game by game, it's 11-11 (G1), 2-2, 2-2, 3-3. He DNP in G4. Aubin Gateretse, from Namur, Belgium2 points

Regarding scoring and end of game offense, I do like that we haxe options on clutch times versus the whole arena and defense knowing it was Edwards shooting.2 points

Morris has his scheme and identity. I think its a big reason we've had so much offensive success the last two year and I don't want him to change it. BUTTTTTTTT I do think he needs to improve his situational awareness and I'll give 3 examples... 1. Late in the FAU game we broke the 34 yard run to get to the FAU 5 with 1:43 left...at this point the clock is on our side and we should run it down and force FAU to burn their timeouts. But instead, Morris has us run to the line and snap the ball before any time can run after they reset the chains. Luckily, FAU stuffed us and eventually burned their timeouts and we scored with 58 seconds left. But imagine if we scored after the big run and gave FAU the ball back with 1:40 and 2 timeouts? Who would feel good about our chances stopping them then??? 2. Our defense shocks everyone and forces Tulane to punt on their first drive. Tulane then executes a great punt and downs it at the 6. We then come out and throw a pass for -1 yards, no huddle and quickly throw an incomplete pass, and on 3rd down its another incomplete pass. So, we're forced to punt the ball from our own 5 yard line after only having the ball for about 25 seconds. Evans has a measly 39 yard punt and 7 plays later Tulane scores a TD. IMO, its a prime example of Morris not understanding the situation and putting his defense right back on the field in a tough spot. Instead of quickly snapping after the -1 yard loss, we should have slowed down and made sure we called the best play to get us a first down. 3. And like others have said, it PISSES me off he refuses to run QB sneaks under center when we need less than a yard. You can make the case its a big reason we lost to Navy last year and it cost us this year against Army. I'd much rather Chandler Morris fall forward for a foot than snap it back 5 yards and hand it to our 5th string RB. There are other teams like us that strictly run shotgun, but are still able to lineup under center and fall forward. The only reason we don't is Coach Morris' ego.2 points

One other thing I want to mention, and Ross addressed this on the post game - Props to Oregon State for actually scheduling this game to begin with. So many of their peers are too scared to nut up and play a game like this. It was a really competitive, fun game, with a great atmosphere. Any casuals in the building last night are sure to come back for more. I’m sure the date/time of the game came into play strategically for them accepting it to minimize our potential home-court advantage, but thankfully our fanbase showed pretty well and the HC advantage was in full force. Hope I have the opportunity to go out for the return game next season.2 points

high school band director was a mistake. band has regressed. drumline is abysmal, no confidence, no arrogance, no true talent. last 2 years the drumline has been the worst since the 80s. need to drop that best damn band in the land and best drumline in college football....not even close to being true.2 points

“We can’t afford to buy him out” ”we def can afford to buy him out” lots of posts with a sense of authority on this, from both sides. Does anyone have any actual insight, or are you just extremely comfortable in your assumption?2 points

That is the same question every team in college football has to ask themselves until the current Wild West era ends. I'd rather spend money improving a third year Morris team than pay him to live his best unemployed life. Like others have said these five-year deals suck. Give a new coach a three-year deal.2 points

Do I want him to turn it around and be successful? Well a successful EM means a successful NT, so yes. Do I think he can turn it around, hell no. Do I think he has the the coaching ability and intellect to turn it around, also no.2 points

Yeah the classic Air Raid was about scoring more and zagging when everyone else was zigging. Now that teams are ready for spread, up-tempo, etc, there is a ton of value in controlling the clock. I don't think that necessarily means doing an Army and running it every play but I do think that keeping the defense off balance includes slowing it down and maybe doing a huddle. I don't know that THIS defense has tired legs. I think they are just small and weak compared to what they need to be. When Morris was talking about "we are not strong enough, not big enough" he was talking about the defense (and a little bit of the offensive line). It is absolutely imperative that we get three or four very good defensive lineman for next year or it will be more of the same.2 points

He didn’t come in off the street. He was a part of the program and probably didn’t have to change a thing. What a mid-season change CAN do is change an attitude. Change a belief. Those 2 elements alone can contribute to success. Then when it starts turning positive on the field, it becomes a snowball. A mid-season change to an interim is not the same as an off-season change. Those often result in a program overhaul.2 points

This fanbase is such a joke. After the mass player exodus, basically everyone on this site predicted 5-7 wins and despite being on track to finish on that mark, many fans are screaming to fire everyone. And to seriously be rooting for this team to lose against Temple and miss a bowl is 100% loser garbage. GTFO with that crap. We’re all disappointed with the lack of progress this year but to want to pull the plug and go through another mass exodus with another new coaching staff with zero time to recruit is all but guaranteeing another frustrating season. You have to give Morris another year to get a new defensive staff in place to fix the defense. The schedule is favorable next year and our best chance at success is with Morris. If he can’t win in year 3 with a favorable schedule, then sure, call for his firing. But to do it now would be dumb AF.2 points

The coaches caused the NIL issue in the first place with their outsized salaries and ridiculous employment contracts. And you better believe these AD's and coaches all are in on it and look after each other's financial interest. The players saw this and said "screw it" I'm getting paid too. How many of you on GMG have an employment contract or make what these clowns do a year? If you add up all the players and coaches and staff, what is that? Like 150 people? Even Ohio State's annual budget is only $215 million. In the business world, managing $200/million/year and 150 people isn't that big a deal and you certainly won't be compensated like a college football coach. This system is rigged! I say that coaches should be at will employees like the rest of us, now that they screwed up College Football.2 points

100% yes. This is the Achilles’ heel of the air raid system. To win consistently with the air raid, a deep defensive bench is needed to keep fresh legs on the field. Otherwise while the offense is high flying, the defense is absolutely gassed come the 3rd and 4th quarters. No disrespect to Mike Leach but I’m over the air raid system. I want to see us run the ball, dominate the line of scrimmage, control the clock, and allow our defense time to rest so they can in turn make stops. This is complimentary football.2 points
