They were a better seed (12) in the NCAA Tournament last season than we've been in any of our four previous trips. A good team is a good team, no matter the league.11 points

UNT ATHLETICS: Wilson and Jane Jones Donate $1 Million to Athletics Center Expansion Project Wilson Jones is 1985 UNT graduate DENTON, Texas – Wilson and Jane Jones have donated $1 million to UNT Athletics’ on-going fundraising efforts toward the Athletics Center expansion project, Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley announced Tuesday. This $1 million gift helped kick start UNT Athletics' fundraising campaign for the Athletics Center Expansion, which aims to enhance the student-athlete experience through a focus on holistic development both in the classroom and in competition. The expansion will provide state-of-the-art facilities designed to support student-athletes' physical, mental, and academic growth. "I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Wilson and Jane Jones for their continued support of UNT,” Mosley said. “Their belief in the power of sports as a transformational tool has made an incredible impact on our student-athletes. “Through their generosity, they will help us Build Champions and Prepare Leaders long into the future. Their commitment to our mission inspires us every day, and we are proud to have them as partners in this journey. Thank you for believing in our vision and for making a lasting difference in the lives of our student-athletes." The Jones’ gift is the 11th of $1 million or more in UNT Athletics history. Wilson Jones is a 1985 UNT graduate. The family previously donated $5 million to UNT in 2022 to create The Wilson Jones Career Center in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. He retired as CEO of Oshkosh Corporation in 2021. Jones led the company to a No. 8 ranking on Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies list, a Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award for being one of the best places to work, recognition as a Military Friendly Employer by Victory Media and one of Ethisphere Institute’s World’s Most Ethical Companies, as well as a spot as one of The Wall Street Journal's “Best Managed Companies” from 2017 to 2019. “As a proud graduate of UNT, I have seen firsthand the power of higher education and the role athletics plays in shaping the lives and futures of young leaders,” Jones said. “Jane and I are excited to contribute and support the Athletics Center Expansion campaign. UNT had a profound impact on helping me reach my full potential, and we hope this Athletics Center Expansion project will help student-athletes reach theirs.” Jones was named one of the top CEOs of 2018 and was honored with the UNT Distinguished Alumni Award and inducted into the G. Brint Ryan College of Business Hall of Fame in 2021. The Athletics Center expansion will be completed in two phases with phase one focusing on space for strength and conditioning. The remodel will expand that area of emphasis from its current 6,180 square feet to more than 20,000 – more than three times its original size. UNT could spend its entire time as a football program in mediocrity and it still wouldn't be as sad as you hanging around on another team's message board.8 points

You sound like the idiots on the Minnesota board. One can't always just look at conference affiliation and automatically assume "yeah that team is good/bad" dependent on that alone.8 points

We had a good time. Obviously attendance for their signing and excitement would have been higher had we not been riding a four game nosedive. But the dudes kept a positive attitude, chatted up anyone who wanted to, and handled themselves as complete pros. I appreciate them, and everyone who made it out!5 points

It’s all just really depressing. I’m hurting for the players. I want us to be relevant but it just feels like there’s something missing every year we’re somewhat decent. The year we beat Arkansas I was thinking “finally- this is it. We’re gonna break through. Everyone will start taking us seriously. Here come the big recruits.” Then back to back heartbreaking losses. Is UNT football just doomed to be the low to mid tier punching bag for schools to beat up on? This is my first post for multiple years in here and I’m just curious to know serious thoughts: What are we missing? What is preventing this program from going on a Boise State/UTSA/Cincy/UCF run? Is it just the complacency and history of losing? Or is it more tangible like facilities/money towards recruits? I’m afraid if we don’t figure it out we’re really going to get left in the dust with NIL taking off. (Sorry for the long post, just processing what has turned into a disappointing season)4 points

I’ll take Morris over Littrell all day, at least at the timing of the decision. I think he is a better offensive coach and recruiter. The QB thing isn’t just a coincidence, and Littrell could only produce one which is part of what sunk him. That being said, I think it is extremely important that Mosley educate Morris on what went wrong with Littrell. Morris said almost verbatim what Littrell said when he hired a DC. That you get a guy “who is tough to coach against.” This move backfired in both cases, but especially with Morris where that 3-3-5 stack didn’t make as much sense against the offenses in this conference. Mosley should’ve been there to push back on that echo chamber stuff with the relevant example. Similarly Littrell went heavier on inexperienced portal guys with more eligibility when he could’ve benefited from adding more experience, especially defensively. Morris is going heavy HS which is good for building a foundation and those guys are less likely to transfer, but we also desperately need some ready to play guys. Particularly ones who you don’t have to suspend indefinitely to start the season. I think Morris does some things well and knows what it takes to run a quality team, but Mosley really needs to help educate him on where Littrell went wrong and push back on Morris if he’s thinking along the same lines in certain aspects. It doesn’t have to be the same movie with the same ending and Mosley needs to ensure it isn’t.4 points

We can hate on him but I do think he makes solid points. It is somewhat helpful to have an outside perspective that isn’t drinking the green kool-aid. (Although it crosses a line if that person starts kicking us while we’re down-which I don’t think he’s done in this post). So this offseason/next year looks like the following: -give morris another year to see what he can build -hire a new defensive coordinator -hopefully hang on to Chandler Morris and Sheffield -pray for a healthy RB room Anything I’m missing? This year: Still think a bowl win gives the program some momentum going into next year. Maybe my expectations grew too large after that 5-1 start, but man there was a glaring need defensively that was not addressed. The offense has also just fallen off a cliff.3 points

This is exactly the problem. UTSA? Really? Beating Texas Tech was what? 30 years ago in a season where you went like 7-5. Almost Beating UT? That's still a loss. The fact that you have to go back several years and mention close losses drives my point home.3 points

I used to think Texas ties were an important factor to consider when hiring coaches, but now I couldn't care less. It seems we have looked for Texas ties for at least the last 20 years, and more times than not, we got burned with bad hires, especially on defense. So, I don't care if the next DC can even spell Texas. I want a guy that doesn't run a 3-3-5 and has proven he can get it done at our level. Preferably at a program with less resources. That's my two cents.3 points

We’re getting a taste of our own medicine. Hard to get a good, clean shot. And, when we’re open, we’re missing the shots from guys we hope to carry us. The turnovers have killed us.3 points

Yeah..I think this goes back to the DC hire. He got that wrong and it was a direct cause to some of our losses. If he gets this next DC wrong, then I’d agree with you he might not have been the right hire. As of today, I still think he was a good choice.3 points

Jossell was initiating things and led the push to get us back in the lead around the 5 min mark…and the for whatever reason Hodge pulled him. Players are gonna have bad nights…I can’t imagine Floyd will be that bad all season…but man I’m struggling with a lot of Hodge’s personnel and substitution decisions so far2 points

Very true but it did get them to the next level which was a spot in the Big 12 and more of a consistent chance at a spot in the playoff and prime time games. You’re totally right some of them have completely fallen off but that’s also related to their competition going up.2 points

Honestly, what we are missing is a billionaire donor. While we have a large alumni base, the majority donate $0 and we don't have enough big donors to make a significant impact. I hate seeing that school we made fun of for buying their way into a P5 now possibly buying their way into a playoff spot.2 points

Defensive recruiting/coaches have taken a backseat to offensive recruiting/coaches. I truly hope Morris quickly figures out that defense is necessary for winning. We just can’t rely on out scoring teams. I also hope Morris starts protecting the defense with his offensive play calls. When the defense just got off the field after a long drive by the other team, don’t be so aggressive with long passes that have us turning the ball over in less than a minute. Try to burn some clock and sustain a drive allowing the defense to rest and get adjustments from coaches.2 points

You’d be surprised how many people go to every football game but rarely make it to the basketball games. There is a large and loud contingent of fans that want a defensive minded coach. Well.. there’s one right across I35 and I’d bet he would love to have another 250-500 fans a game.2 points

Comparing overall records of past coaches can be misleading. Compare Dickey’s non conference opponents to those non conference opponents of any coach since and It’s not even in the same universe. Yet from ‘01’ to 04’ he found a niche that worked in conference play. And he did it in possibly the most decrepit facility in FBS to recruit to for fractional pay compared to what the last three coaches have enjoyed. Rick2 points
