I think we're building a brand...it's kinda why I want to see more 54-51-esque games...this defense is a known commodity in basketball circles and was on full display tonight, especially in the first half. that's our identity and it seems like all the new kids have bought in to it. it's not gonna always be a pretty game on the offensive end, but if that commitment to UNT defense is there every game, we're always gonna be tough to beat13 points

This is a badge of honor not a swipe from Rothstein. Great to see us go on the road and beat a Big 10 team in a rock fight! We’re relentless and I love it.9 points

- Dello is that dude. we won't win many games with him as our leading scorer, but he does EVERYTHING for this team - Lorient has more game than I assumed and I love his work ethic (eff it, I kinda loved him getting a T right after Garcia did)...I don't fully trust his decision making, but happy he was the !!! on the game...he earned it. - Massie is fearless and I love it. no, that wasn't at all an efficient game, but he clearly backs himself so much. - I'm still very keen on Wright and not at all worried about a quiet showing tonight - Floyd/Jossell just dropped a 7:2 A:T ratio. - honestly...was surprised Stone didn't touch at all in the 2nd half bc I thought he pestered the hell out of Garcia in the first. maybe it was just trusting BL more, but I thought Matt had a good game - if someone offered me 6 and 6 from Sissoko for the rest of the year, I'd snap their arm off at the offer.9 points

Most uneducated post I read was someone saying we could end up being a quad 3 blemish on the gophers tourney resume. 🤦♂️ gotta keep winning games like this. Only way to get past the stigma.6 points
-
He posts that exact tweet anytime a team loses a buy game. I wouldn’t take it as disrespect.6 points

Quad 2 for now but they could end up in the top 75 which would make this Quad 1. Could end up being a huge win for us.6 points
-
We missed those free throws on purpose so Lorient could get the poster. All part of the plan. 3 straight wins against Big 10 opponents per the Minnesota fan commentators.6 points

heck ya...no idea how good/bad Minnesota is, but a road win in the big 10...that is great for these boys6 points

figure one main thread to keep track of how our opponents are faring. the AAC is off to a pretty strong start...overall record of 29-7. plus currently Oregon State, High Point and Utah State / St. Bonaventure are all 3-0 - Memphis (2-0) with two quality wins v. Mizzou and UNLV. they should be undefeated (though San Francisco isn't a gimmie) heading into a 11/25 game with UCONN. - UAB (2-1)...I thought their loss to Vermont wouldn't look too bad, but UV has two pretty ugly losses now. really intriguing game tomorrow 11/15 v. High Point - FAU (2-1) look tough...their loss was by 6 to UCF who already beat then 13th A&M. - the other undefeated teams, ECU (3-0), Temple (3-0), Tulane (3-0), Tulsa (3-0), Wichita St. (2-0) collectively really haven't played much of a schedule...best win is probably WSU over WKU...but they've made pretty light work of what's in front of them. Games of interest over the next week or so: 11/14 - Northern Iowa @ Wichita State 11/15 - UAB @ HighPoint ; Temple @ Boston College ; FAU v. Charlston and Liberty (11/16) 11/21 - Memphis @ San Francisco ; FAU v. Oklahoma State (3 day tourney...would play Miami or Drake next)5 points

I don't think Floyd's in-bounds pass to set up the poster is getting enough love. It was PERFECT. A lot could have gone wrong with it.5 points

From the Gopher board.... "Normally similar to a bracket buster, but I am guessing if these two were in a first round brack pair more people would have picked the Mean Green. Until Ben learns to fast break, we are going to have zero offense. 0 fast break points again tonight. If teams can get set, it likely be a long season unless we amp up the 3 PT shooting percentage. Turnovers: Gophers 13 Mean Green 8 Pts off turnovers: Gophers 4 Mean Green 18 Steals: Gophers 1 Mean Green 7 Fast Break PTS: Gophers 0 Mean Green 9 Points in the Paint: Gophers 16 Mean Green 28...Mean Green tallest player that played was 6'9" All gopher players seemed frustrated and no energy. Mean Green were ready and hungry and deserved the W."5 points

The Mean Green record book says that we defeated Northwestern in 1967-68, but I looked at the game by game and we didn't play them (we played Northwestern State) that year. So, I believe this is our first ever road win vs a Big 10 opponent.5 points

Awesome win! The only bad part was the commentary from the TV announcers. They confused Newell and Lorient for an extended period of time, stated that Atin Wright originally played at Washington State, and clearly barely knew anything about our program. The play by play announcer gave major 'and boom goes the dynamite' vibes. Some thoughts on the game: - The defense was stellar as we've all come to expect. Delo and Massie were great playing multiple matchups. - Minnesota came out and blitzed our PnRs. We really struggled with the pressure. Eventually we started slipping screens and setting brush screens to counteract it. - Trey Edmonds in the second half forced us to play big. He has a grown man body. Hodge settled on a Lorient/Sissoko combination to match Garcia/Edmonds. - An extended run with a Floyd/Walker/Massie/Lorient/Sissoko lineup including to close the game aside from situational subs. Before the season I would've been shocked that this lineup would close a win on the road against a Big Ten school because of the offense. The spacing was predictably an adventure. Massie wasn't efficient but he kind of made the lineup 'work'. He shows handling, passing, and court awareness in the half court. Feels like he could turn into a secondary ball handler in lineups. - Atin Wright had a meh game by his standards, but still really excited about him this season. He's a bit of a showman and I love it. After getting fouled in transition, he slapped the ball away from the defender and stared at him. On Lorient's massive jam at the end of the game, you can see him standing over Edmonds (who was on the ground). GMG4 points

This is the crap we always have to put up with from these media guys. They think we are some spare and just a buy game. We have been a damn good program, better than Minnesota, for at least the last 5 years. You’d think a guy like Rothstein would know that.4 points

Laughing at the quotes on x about how our basketball plays suffocating d and our football plays absolutely no d. also all the people baggin on Minnesota for losing, and I just remind them that no big 10 fan should scoff at it since our last 2 games against the big 10 were wins against Purdue for our first ever tourney win, and that huge comeback against Wisconsin in the nit semi’s.4 points

Hell yeah! We tried to give it away with that free throw shooting there at the end, but loved the Minnesota announcers talking about our defensive intensity the entire game!! let’s go boys!!!4 points

I was suspicious of the referee when he went over to the Minnesota bench at time out and drew up the next play.4 points

23-14 at the half with both teams shooting under 30%. ahh...UNT basketball is back, baby4 points

Why is it so hard to get a decent team to The Pit? I love UNT basketball but c’mon, Texas Wesleyan is an embarrassment. Think there are DFW high school teams that can beat Texas Wesleyan. Hard to motivate myself for a 2 hour round trip drive for that matchup.4 points

I really enjoy these BTG clips of our players. In a small way I get to know them as a person first, then as a player. And to hear them speak about their commitment to our university is the ultimate bonus. Thank you, Mr. Brown.3 points
