  1. Army is an incredibly classy program and playing them and having them in the conference is a powerful boost to the credibility of OUR program. I’ve been to 99% of the games at DATCU and that is the best that stadium has ever looked. It is also impressive how, after the game, Army comes to our side and stands at attention for the playing of our school song. That type of respect for others is missing in our society now. I wanted Army to lose against us, but I will be rooting for them the rest of the season.

  2. There’s no excuse for us not playing better, and we should own the losses, but our last two opponents (Tulane and Army) are Top 25 teams now

  5. The McGill non-TD was 50/50. With my green glasses on, the ball broke the goal line more or less as his knee hit. The problem was that they didn’t call it a TD and therefore harder to call the TD on replay when that close. The real problem is our inability to get TDs when in the redzone, particularly short yardage. Can’t run for one yard and it’s pathetic. Should never need to pass from the one yard line and if we do it should be some kind of play action misdirection to a block and release TE. The play calling in general was terrible this game. The decision making (on sides kick) was even worse. On a related note, the non-fumble and the PI call were ridiculous. I can sort-of, kind-of see the PI call because it was a bang bang play and refs are human, but the fumble was a fumble and they got it wrong live and on replay. The AD needs to file a protest to the league. That ref should be suspended.

  6. i got there at 9 am to tailgate and tailgated after the game for an hour as well. i had no lines to wait in.

  7. Anybody the tries to arrive at a football game an hour before kickoff, especially one where the crowd is expected to be bigger, is an unaware fan and will certainly experience delays. UNT draws more than they used to. I go to college games all over the country, and UNT is not different. The aware fan will arrive a couple of hours prior to kickoff for the better parking spots and ease of getting in. Those who wait until later and try to squeeze in just prior to kickoff get what they will get….delays. It doesn’t matter what stadium you go to.

  15. This last game started with a whole lot of not being on the same page with each other. Too many passes that became turnovers when somebody zigged instead of zagged. The game changed when Aniyah Johnson went in and we started pressing. She created turnovers that led to easy baskets. Aniyah doesn't play a lot, but when she does there is usually an impact. She has a role and she does it well. It takes a mature player to play 4.5 minutes a game and be ready when called on. It was also interesting that Coach Burton put 5'10" Talley on their tallest girl and not 6'2" Lampkin. But, he was right. She fouled out without scoring a single point. It would be nice to get a win over a "name" opponent.

  17. What do you expect them to do if every spot is claimed, either by donors or sales? They can’t make the passes get used, but can you imagine if they oversold that lot and people with valid passes showed up with no spot to park in?

  19. I’m surprised there hasn’t been much talk on here about this play. Not sure how many of you watched the game on TV, but I did. Watching the replay, I have no idea how the review refs could not see the ball break the plane before his knee went down. It looked pretty clear to me. A 10-7 lead there would have made a huge difference in the game. I know we all felt extremely confident in our offense scoring there (2nd & goal from the 1/4-yd line), but it didn’t happen, for whatever reasons. Massive miss there. Also the INT that was overturned by replay… another miss (**EDIT** not an INT, it was the fumble. I got legitimate turnovers conflated!), even though we wound up forcing the punt. All that said, the game was decided on the 2 INTs Morris threw in the end zone. He simply can’t throw those.

  21. Well just like anything else, once space is sold, its sold. Cant just open it up and say well no one is using it. What happens when they sell those 100 spots then someone shows up that has already purchased the spot and now they dont have a space? I felt like they handed the parking situation about as well as they could have given the situation (lot closure due to condition, crowd size, etc).

  23. Where did you park and which way did you come from? For anyone coming from Fort Worth on 35W, I highly recommend exiting at Exit 82 for Ponder, turning right, then turning left on Bonnie Brae (where it's already four lanes and really nice). I do this whether I'm parking in the blue lot or the neighborhood. I was a late arrival, probably parked in the blue lot right at kickoff (the flyover occured while I was waiting to get into the lot). Me and my son got a couple of waters and got to our seats to see our field goal.

  25. Want them to go away? Bore them off. They can wake up one day, knowing they won't get a response and move on. But it means you have to stop responding/quoting them. I've accepted that this scenario isn't going to happen.

  28. There's a lot of guys who can coach until they get to the FBS level. Recently fired ECU head coach Mike Houston was plucked from James Madison and he finished 27-38 at ECU. I do like James Madison's philosphy, though. They hire experienced college head coaches. Houston was a college HC for 5 seasons, Cignetti for 8, and the current guy Chesney for 13 prior to their stops at JMU.

  34. Daily had three runs near the 50 all game and all 3 came with the game at 7-3 and before the 4th quarter. Are you're really suggesting they were draining the clock up 4 with 20+ minutes to go instead of expanding their lead to two possessions? Our defense was not shut down, sure. No G5 defense really ever is against the service academies if you think death by paper cut for 10 plays without allowing a score doesn't count. Your statements that our defense couldn't force turnovers for long periods of play and even lucked out on a fumble are asinine. Army doesn't committ foolish turnovers. They've had 3 turnovers all year, 2 of which were this past Saturday in Denton. That's not luck. You don't want to give credit where it's due and that's fine. I'll move on to next week. You can keep ignoring the jobs our defense and special teams (sniffed out the fake punt) did. If our offense were truly elite, we'd have at least scored 1 touchdown. Couldn't even do that.

  35. The stats with context tell us more. I feel like Army kept the defense on the field on purpose to limit a famously high flying North Texas team. I agree we had turnovers- how effective were they? How many 1st downs did army have in a single drive? Army never turned the ball over on downs with high 3rd down efficiency. We lucked out on the fumble from the RB. How long did it take to get the turnover? How was the field position that the defense earned? Those are better questions. Our defense did a lot and I loved seeing the sack, near fumble (ruled an incompletion), interception, and lack of penalties(that pass interference in the red zone hurt) to deflate their passing game- all 4 attempts. Then, they took us on the ground. Daily slid early to drain more time on a run near the 50. They line up with the same formation for an easy read to gain a yard or two, but, more importantly, the clock starts back up. This was triple option football and I feel like we failed to disrupt their plans. I want us to be better on all sides of the ball. I don’t a moral victory. I want us to acknowledge that Army, just like Tulane 2 weeks ago, used the run effectively against the defense. However, they used it to play at their tempo/style limiting our offense time on the field. I love the heart these players showed. I feel like any one of those teams from Army’s past 13 games are not the caliber we should be proud of being better than (except Coastal and Navy). Watching at army launch the ball vs Temple, Tulsa, & UAB was insane. But Daily is a okay QB that fits the triple option scheme as a runner primarily. Horvath is a miracle for service academy passing. Daily has 51 passing attempts YTD versus Horvath’s monstrous 117 attempts for a service academy. Daily has the same interception rate as Henigan. I’ll see y’all in San Antonio. I’m still excited to see this team play and I know we can win out the season. I just feel like they were par for the course this Army weekend. If anyone complained about the DC all season, this game should not sway someone.

  38. I’ve thought a lot about how different the game would have been had that not happened. We’re all pissed that we couldn’t score there, but we really did. Add to that the PI call and the fumble that was called an incomplete pass and it’s actually kind of shocking that we still could have won the game. The TD not being given to us is even more frustrating if you saw the TD that Bama was given. Instant replay really sucks sometimes. What’s the point if you can’t get it right?

  39. It was a touchdown. I'm also flabbergasted at how it wasn't overturned. That said, we failed to execute where we had control. Morris can't throw into coverage like on the first pic and can't throw that 2nd interception with Sides wide freaking open in the flat. There were other near pics during the game. Not sure what Morris was doing but his decision making was off all game.

  40. This is such an odd claim to make. Army had two drives go 10 plays or more, one ended in a punt and the other resulted in a TD. Otherwise they had a 9 play 48 yard drive that they scored a TD on due to a failed onside kick. The other 3 drives we got off the field within 7 plays or less (not counting the final drive). Considering they pretty much always go for it on 4th and short, I'd consider that a success in getting off the field. Not counting the end of half "drives" against ECU, Army scored on 7 of 10 possessions. Against UAB they scored on 7 of 9. Against Tulsa they scored on 8 of 9. Against Temple 6 of 10. Against Rice 5 of 8. Against UNT, 2 of 6 not counting the final possession of the game. Just some numbers for perspective. I've posted this nonstop but this was the first multi-turnover game of the year for Army. It was their QBs first interception. We held them to their lowest point total in 14 games. What more did the defense need to do? I've also posted this before: our offense is explosive but inconsistent. Good but not great. This game is a prime example. Every week we go dry for 4 or 5 straight drives. That may be ok when you get 14 offensive possessions but against a team that takes a 50 seconds off the clock with every snap, you can't go dry like that. It is what it is, I guess. Just another example of this offensive philosophy not being made for winning football.

  41. Section 109 and 110 Army fans were great. Other than them, I am the loudest guy in that area. Mostly just loud, sometimes obnoxious. North Texas fans, every game, are less tolerant of my shenanigans on the whole, but I got props from both groups yesterday. ARMY fan was louder than our fan. I don't know if that is a reflection of them outnumbering us or that they had more to cheer about and/or are louder than when our fans have reason to celebrate. Lots of North Texas fans wear/wore black. And lots of NT fans were also served in the Army. I find it very difficult to cheer against ARMY, and I suspect other NT fans feel the same way. The Mean Green on the field wore more black than the black knights, but looked good anyway. We had West Point family and friends at our tailgate and served fantastic food (thanks to the lasses). Overall, its about as much fun as I have had at any North Texas game we lost. And it was a great joy to cheer on @FirefightnRick as he was feted yesterday. Well done, FFR! GMG

  48. 1 foot/yard from the goal line is where two things are pretty important. 1. You need to have linemen who are not only big, but they are also very strong for their size and quick off the line. THEN you need a RB that is a cross between a bowling ball and a battering ram........and also very quick off the line. Someone with very well developed thighs. Attaway used to be that guy, and our current "lost for the season RB" Harris (#44 on your program) appeared to be that kind of guy. If those two things are not doable, then you need a tight end who has very sure hands and is good at fighting for the ball. That would be Oscar Hammond (#23 on your program) who I never saw out on the field yesterday. Considering the injury attrition that has gone on this year, I would say that Morris and his staff have cobbled together an impressive group of scrappers/overachievers. For example, our starting RB yesterday, (who I am very impressed with) is a converted WR transfer from Kansas St.

  49. Three weeks in a row on “national” TV, generally larger crowds, more money. Not a bad deal, when we start winning it will be nice. What a defense yesterday, if we can play like that the rest of the year things will definitely be looking up! I like the American.
