Everyone hates on Stone. I am not related to Stone, but I feel the need to defend him. Stone has never said a bad word about North Texas. He didn't walk on, we recruited him. He has given us 100% and done what he can. I am hoping he proves all the haters wrong. He is a good person and didn't transfer to a lower level to get playing time. He has played the role we have asked and not complained. Can we please stop hating on him?14 points

Wright and Floyd are exactly the ballers I was hoping they'd be...Massie might have more offensive game than I assumed...Lorient might be more than just an energy big. awesome start5 points

It's that time of year again. For those of us interested in this kind of stuff, here's this season's attendance tracker. The chart is starting to get a bit unwieldy, but I'll probably stick with this for the season. At 3,451, somewhat disappointing on the attendance front as we experienced our lowest season-opener attendance number over the last 4 seasons and down 964 compared to the UNI game last year. We have some ballers on this team and they are going to be fun to watch as they come together as a group. Get to the Pit to see for yourself and GMG!4 points

In my opinion UNT is just a 1/2 a step behind Tulane and Memphis, and probably Army. However I think Morris will light it up against the Black Knights and if we can get just a little help from our defense we have a decent chance to win. Of course I voted for Harris so what do I know.4 points

Not really a surprise given we were going against election night though.4 points

DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with an 80-63 home win over Evansville Tuesday night. The Mean Green (1-0) led by as many as 29 points early in the second half and newcomers Jasper Floyd, Johnathan Massie and Atin Wright combined for 57 of North Texas’ 80 total points. “I thought in the first half we played as close to perfect basketball as possible,” Massie said. “But give a lot of credit to Evansville. They kept fighting and they are a really good team.” The Mean Green scored 42 points in the first half, which tied their first half point high from all of last year. On the defensive end UNT played its signature clamp down defense to get a big double digit early lead. Evansville shot just 27 percent from the floor and 15 percent from deep in the first half as they trailed by 25 at the break. In the second half, the Purple Aces’ star freshman Gabriel Pozzato exploded for 20 of his 28 points and brought his team back from the once 29-point deficit to 12 points late in the game. “The game opened up a little and they started hitting shots and the rhythm we had early the game went away but they’re a solid team,” Floyd said. “We were probably a little fatigued too but overall I thought it was a great game and I’m proud of our fight.” Floyd finished with 23 points, just one point shy of his single game career high. Massie had 18 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Wright hit four 3-pointers, all in the first half, and finished with 16 points. Six newcomers in total played for North Texas and they combined for 71 of its 80 points. Returner Moulaye Sissoko started and had six points, four rebounds, two assists and a career-high four steals in 24 minutes of action Tuesday was North Texas’ 12th straight season opening victory. They’ll aim for a 2-0 start on Thursday when they host Wayland Baptist at the Super Pit as part of a double header with the women’s basketball team. The women’s game starts at 5:30 and the men’s game will be right after. Didn't say they committed a bunch of turnovers but they looked very shaky to me with the ball. Just the first game so we'll see against better opponents.3 points

there's a collection of asshats who will downvote anytime I make a post. they think I care, I guess? to the bold statement...I do. to the rest...whatever. he's a 4 year scholarship player who has a less than 2ppg average for his career. it's not really his fault...he should be at ACU or some D2 program. everyone on the team "hustles" I'll say again, if Mason and/or Cotton don't have Stone's 10ish minutes by conference play, then I have real questions about our recruitment.3 points

I was impressed the new NT daily guy asked about firing Caponi. He’s doing a good job.3 points

For the players and coaches, yes. For the student section, nope. They’re kids. Let them make some lifetime memories and rip the goal posts down.3 points

I was expecting a victory for America, but I didn't expect a repeat of the Georgia-TCU Championship Game. I'm happy that so many people have placed their country's best interest before those of their special interest groups.2 points

First half was great and dominating. 3's were falling easy, but we had difficulty working it down low. Second half was lazy and ragged. Almost like Ross told them to give Evansville some confidence before they go home. Lots to work on overall. Sissoko is a big body but still has not improved his shooting touch or ball handling much. No apparent backup yet. We are in trouble down low in bigger games. Stone tries and hustles, but I'd like to see other options for his minutes on the floor.2 points

I liked that we have more than one guy willing and able to drive, score and draw fouls. That bodes well for the future on nights when the threes aren’t falling. When Evansville tried to get back in the game we drove and got to the line. Lots of experienced guys on this team. I didn’t know what to expect with so much turnover, but that looked like a recent North Texas team to me. Awesome to see that our style of play and tenacity carried over to this new bunch.2 points

Early observation: active on the offensive boards and we have several guys who can finish in the paint through contact. Trying not to get too excited but this team looks like they've been playing together for years.2 points

Agreed nobody who has touched the floor seems awkward with the ball. Even Sissoko seems more in control.2 points

Massie is basically listed at the same build as both AScott and TBell…our starting PFs for the last four seasons. That’s at least part of the reason I see Massie as a fit at our 4…so much of our defense is built around switching, denying entry and team rebounding…so we’ve never needed 6’8” 250 at the 4. I agree Vice is such a big wildcard. If it’s literally just him and Sissoko sharing minutes at the 5 and giving say 12/12 collectively, this squad could be a monster and legit ten-deep. this level of pre-season speculation is pretty darn fun. We are not have like three dudes on the roster we’re pretty well confident in knowing what they’ll give us…Walker, Sissoko and Stone…everyone else is kinda up in the air. personally…I think Wright is knocking on the door of 20ppg…with Floyd, Josell, Massie all around double-figures…balanced by Walker, Newell and some center combo giving 7-8/game.2 points

*IF* we had won the last two games and then beat a ranked 6-0 Army team to take the conference lead at 5-0 with 3 relatively easy games to go, I wouldn't tear down the goalposts, but I'd consider going down on the field to be in the middle of all of the fun.2 points

I'll gladly take that excuse if it means a better shot at a W on Saturday. We're not good enough to care about what other people think about our W's. Just get 'em any way you can.2 points

No matter who you vote for, no matter what the results are. The sun will still shine tomorrow. We as a people are stronger than our votes. And, we particularly bleed green. We'll stand unified under our common causes.2 points

During the couple times I helped tear them down in the early 2000’s, we marched them all the way to Fry St. Those of you wanting to just toss it in the pond outside the stadium really need to think bigger. 🙄 I remember Wings Sports Bar on Fry St even mounted one of the posts up in their rafters. I believe Lou’s did the same if I remember correctly. That was a long time and many beers ago. It was cool to see for a couple days until the school came by to reclaim their stolen property. 😂2 points

Yeah, and it’s a damn shame because the election stuff doesn’t even start to get interesting until after the game will be over.2 points

I trust Ross to find good transfers like he did last season. If the secret scrimmage results were accurate that was a good sign. Last season we got into some injury situations I hope we avoid this year. I'm anxious to see the new roster play together....it's like Christmas.... see what we got!2 points

I'm torn. aesthetically I'd like to see a bit more tempo and scoring...but for the last 3-4 seasons this team has had a true identity unlike anything else in my time watching the program, despite coaching changes and massive player overhaul. "UNT Basketball" legit means something to our opponents. tough to want to stray too far from something so hard-nosed and largely successful.1 point

Deck had 26 of her points in the second half. Lampkin with a strong double double of 23 & 11 My favorite player, Desiree Wooten had a career high 20.1 point
