In all seriousness, I watched South Carolina roar the field after taking down A&M tonight, and thought, “This is what our fanbase needs.” SMU had apparently not beaten a ranked team at home in like 60 years or something crazy like that! Meanwhile we are poised to beat our second undefeated top 20 ranked team in a span of a few years and when this happens it needs to be celebrated! Who says cool sports things don’t happen in Denton, freaking Texas! Goal posts come down, get marched out and get tossed into the pond or placed on the hill like a trophy! 🏆 how instagrammable! Photos for the Maniacs, Talons and Infantry to use to recruit 2025 members and beyond. I’m all about derailing Army’s quest for the playoffs, because even if Boise loses they ain’t jumping 8 spots and keeping out their Heisman stud running back. Plus we need this win. It’s time to crush another undefeated dream. Most importantly we need a W. For those who think this puts too much pressure on the team to deliver a W against a stout team with a rested quarterback. It’s top level football. There are no guarantees but we all need to be prepared. Talons Up! GMG6 points

This may be hard to stomach but Memphis only put up 10 more yards of offense against us compared to versus UTSA. Memphis laid an egg after a hot start vs UTSA. They did the same against us. The difference is UTSA scored 20 straight during Memphis' scoreless stretch. We scored 3. There's your ball game.5 points

Special arrangement, I believe that was part of the agreement for Army joining the AAC. They don’t play each other until after the conference championship game.4 points

Tulane vs UNT... they started on offense and punted after gaining a grand total of 18 yards so you're wrong there. We then gave them the ball pack at our 44 after losing a yard on our first drive. They proceeded to score their first TD on that 44 yard drive. We also gave them the ball at our 28 and our 11, both of which led to short touchdown drives. If we're really supposed to be mad at a defense that can't hold Tulane scoreless when giving them the ball at our 44, 28, and 11, then we're just looking for reasons to be mad at the defense. That, by the way, is why we lost against Tulane. Two turnovers within our 30 and a 39 yard punt from our 5. It's a shame our top ranked offense couldn't give us some breathing room or take care of the ball when they were backed up. That's what top offenses are supposed to do. Again, not saying the offense as a whole is an issue but we've got to put our defense in better situations.4 points

Pointing out that the offense isn’t blameless isn’t the same as saying they’re the issue.4 points

If only we had taken advantage of Menphis' 5 straight 3-and-outs, we also could have won.4 points

Undefeated ranked team getting 3.5 against us is not bad. Tulane was +7.5. I’m taking UNT to win outright. GMG!3 points

It seems to me, down the corridor of years, we have put former student-athletes into the Hall of Fame that maybe didn’t qualify for HOF admittance. That we nominated someone just to fill some quota. And maybe I’m wrong, but perhaps we need to adjust what qualifies as a HOF nominee. In light of the “one and done” we’re seeing now, maybe 2 or 3 years attendance should be required. Maybe a degree. But maybe, being the best nationally should be enough. Why must we nominate 6 each year ? Why not 2 or 4 or 8 ? I dunno. I’m certainly glad we stopped “retiring” numbers. I’d like to see Retired number athletes or their family, “return” the retired number and issue it to a contemporary player worthy or carrying that number’s tradition.3 points

We need to stack the box and play man coverage on the back end. I got it that they can throw better than in the past, but they are still primarily a running team and our DBs should be able to hold up in man coverage against their receivers. Should being the key word.3 points

I'm not in any way under the impression that our defense is good. I'm also not going to say the offense has to score every drive. What I will say is we can't throw the defense out there every 2 minutes without scoring any touchdowns and expect the defense to hold up. Memphis had 15 possessions against us. Do we really think we're going to go on the road against a top team in the conference, give them the ball 15 times, and come out of that with a win? Would it really kill the team to slow the pace a bit and chew some clock? Don't know how reliable teamrankings dot com is but per them, we have the 5th fastest offense in terms of seconds per play. We all see it. They also need to be more consistent. We get so drawn in by the stats that we forgot how often we also go 3-and-out. Against Charlotte, Tulane had 8 possessions, scored 6 times, and missed a field goal. Potentially scoring on 7 of 8 possessions is efficient. Scoring on 7 of 16 possessions like we did against Memphis is not efficient nor is it a sign of consistency. Here's a stat for you, we have led in time of possession twice this year: against SFA and Wyoming. Per the NCAA website we're 105th in time of possession. That style of play may work against bad teams but against equal or better competiton, you're defense is never going to hold up.3 points

Had UNT capitalized on the 5 straight 3-and-outs, the ballgame changes at that time. Consider if UNT had scored 20 points in that stretch like UTSA did, Memphis' gameplan would have changed down 13 at the end of the 3rd. That's how you put pressure on a team which leads to mistakes. The flows of the game change when you're up double digits with a quarter to go. It's never as simple as looking at the final score but you know that. Edit to add that in summary, when you score matters.3 points

Man, losing a playoff game by 3 when you passed on two field goal opportunities is brutal but I understand it's also what got them there. There's a time and place for being aggressive but close games where every point matters just isn't it in my opinion. Reminds me of last year's game vs Navy where we went for it at 4th and goal from the 2 instead of kicking the field goal only to lose by 3. Also brutal.2 points

And just like that, Rice took down Navy 24-10. With our defense, we would have had to score 50 to win this game.2 points

I get what you are saying that the offense could have done more, but damn if I put up 44 points, I expect to win a lot of football games. Unfortunately we don't because our defense is so bad. The offense before the Tulane game was averaging 41 points a game. With a halfway decent defense, that should equate to a lot of wins. There is too much pressure on our offense to score every time we have the ball because our defense cannot stop anyone with a half functioning offense when it counts and this is two years straight. Memphis beat us last year with 46 seconds left and needing a TD. They drove 75 yards and did it because of our inept D and it is still inept. Tulsa and Wyoming were like Brett Vito said "a mirage."2 points

10 more yards…and SIXTEEN more points…but don’t let facts get in the way of this continued ridiculous narrative that our offense is the issue. UTSA put up 44 against Memphis. We put up…wait for it…44. But UTSA’s defense gave up 35 points…we surrendered FIFTY TWO. THAT is “your ballgame.”2 points

This cannot be overstated and it really has little to do with wins and losses. The defense is so subpar that it no question impacts our opportunities for success.2 points

Here comes San Antonio. Let’s do our part and beat down Army next week. Set up a war between North and South on national tv in less than 2 weeks. A season ripe with continued opportunities. GMG2 points

UTSA is not great and Memphis' offense is not great. It is just our defense is so bad. With an average defense, we would have beaten Memphis easily. Even Charlotte was holding down Tulane's offense until they tired because their offense is so bad. We may not have the worst defense in the country (close though), but we do have the worst defense in the conference.2 points

Army’s good, but not great. For those who complain that we haven’t beaten a team with a winning record, check out Army’s schedule. We’d be undefeated and either ranked or receiving votes with their schedule. I think they’ll be the 4th best team we’ve played this year.2 points

His talent isn’t being wasted. It’s being maximized. If he and the offense aren’t balling out we’d be out of every game. We’re not 8-0, but can’t say his talent is being wasted. That’s just a bit too far down the negativity branch for me.2 points

This is a public service announcement from DATCU Stadium where seismic tremors deep below the surface appear to be sending stress signals to the strong goalposts above. There are reports of Tifos being painted in dorms across campus stating, “Bring Goal Posts Here!” Friday night camping equipment is apparently being washed and packed in preparation for under the stars campfires. There is even a report of the Military coming to town. Be alert. Stay attentive my friends. GMG1 point

I think that Villareal quietly encouraged the MTSU event in hopes of increasing student excitement and participation in games. Is there anyone who posts on this board who participated in storming the field and taking down the Goal Posts?1 point

Lions' coach Dan Campbell comes to mind. I see several similarities between Campbell and Morris offenses. Maybe Coach Morris is a fan of a hyper-aggressive, almost Madden video game like approach, to use all 4 downs to get the first down. It's great when it works and brutal when it doesn't. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39414214/lions-coach-dan-campbell-regret-costly-4th-calls1 point

Tech spiraled out of control so fast it's hard to pinpoint what exactly could have done better lol... against Memphis, there were just poor coaching decisions coupled with poor execution on those poor decisions. It sucks to look back on because not only do we practically give teams the ball in scoring position but we also blatantly leave points on the field. Memphis comes to mind with the 4th down attempt from our 41 (who does that in 2nd quarter) and the 4th down attempt from their 29 in the 3rd. That's a 10 point swing right there off coaching decisions assuming we make the field goal and the defense gets a stop. Those may seem like tall tasks but that 42 yard Memphis TD was their last score until 33 seconds left in the 3rd and our kicker hasn't missed since the Tech game.1 point

The Army Navy game doesn't count as a conference game. The only time they could potentially face each other in conference would be the championship game.1 point

This isn’t unique to the Tulane game. Memphis and Texas Tech both started drives on our side of the field 3 times, plus Tech had a pick 6.1 point
