  1. USA Today has UNT ranked 53, Tulane 40 and Memphis in the 20s.

  3. I remember the night game we had at Apogee when Fine was still here and we kicked a field goal with a few seconds left to win I believe 51- 49. I had my seat in section 208 row 2 and a number of Army fans around me were laughing because we were in our end of the field with about a minute tolay and I told them don't be too overconfident that we already beat UTSA like that and they said no way we would drive the field on them. After we scored and won as they were leaving I just looked and shook my head and one of them said. "Well you were correct". Let's do it again. One of these games we will come back at the end to score and win. I feel ESPN knows that also and we're banking on being here when we do. Go Green, beat Army.

  4. The transfer portal is very difficult for group of 5 or lower level power 5 schools. Think it’s better to get the FCS or D2 kid who is a starter all conference type player versus the 3rd string or disgruntled back up player from a power 5 school.

  5. 20+ years of the same exact thread. maybe...just maybe...UNT football just is what it is. more than likely this team finishes 8-4 on the heels of a 5-7 season. they'll make a bowl game somewhere. they'll do so with one of the most entertaining offenses and quite possibly the best offensive player in program history. replace the DC, recruit the hell out of Chandler Morris, DT and about 15 D-1 defensive transfers and this team is a conference title contender.

  6. Chandler Morris is currently ranked FIRST in the country in passing yards! He is over 100 yards ahead of Cam Ward. DT Sheffield is ranked 18th in the country in receiving yards! When was the last time we had the top passing QB in the country this far into the season? Can't remember if Mason Fine was ever ranked first. If we can just keep him healthy the rest of the way, he has a great chance to finish the year number one. None of the teams we have left on the schedule are great defensively and we all know that we have to score a ton of points to make up for the defense. Should be fun to watch.

  7. Guys, if we don't turn the ball over twice in our territory and give they 14 points the game might of had a different outcome.

  8. I am guessing the coaching staff has something like this that they use whenever a player discusses transferring. However, I'm sure every player who's going to transfer believes they are the exception.

  9. Third time's a charm? Our only saving grace is that we're coming off of a bye week and have two full weeks to prepare for their offense. I'm hoping we can somehow scheme and have the defensive game of our lives. With that said, I'll believe it when I see it. I do expect a good crowd as well. Ranked opponent coming to town. National TV. And Army travels well.

  11. I didn’t realize UNT, a program with only 3 winning seasons over the last 19 years, could turn their noses up at a potential 8 win season.

  12. Sounds like a chart that needs to be hanging on the wall of the locker room for all to see, especially at the end of the season. (Of course, it needs a cover for when we're bringing in prospective transfers!)

  13. This will be three straight games on ESPN2 and five straight on linear television. Let's go and take advantage. I believe attendance will be greater for the Army game already across the board: alumni, students, opposing fans. I know we're pissed about the Tulane game but we've got an extra week to get the sour taste out. Going 2-2 on this Memphis/Tulane/Army/UTSA stretch would still be a lot better than last year's 0for on the Tulane/Memphis/UTSA/SMU gauntlet.

  15. Sadly, they are the worst possible matchup for our defense. They are a physical running team. We have shown absolutely nothing to indicate that we will stop them. They will look at the Navy tape from last year and be prepared for us. I'm afraid they will score 50 and we will have to be perfect on offense to keep pace. We won't be perfect. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm probably not.

  16. Maybe, just maybe a message like this might start getting the fan base who doesn't support the program to start thinking it's not the same old North Texas and they are changing their ways.

  21. Wait a minute. You can't fire an underperforming coordinator with a terrible offense/defense in his first season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He needs time to get HIS players to run his scheme!

  24. Caponi has 3 months left. Is it really that expensive of a "buyout"? Hell, just elevate someone on staff on an interim basis through the end of the year.

  26. You don't get it man People on this forum are majority the hardcore UNT fans that we do have, nobody is turning their noses up. But don't sit there and tell me you don't get infuriated when your team is on national tv and it's always a poor showing. Or to watch them get kicked around on defense because we have DC who doesn't know what he is doing. Then you see other programs out there that do way more than us with so much less...sometimes to the point where they get nationally ranked. UNT moved up to a new conference because of what reason...."We want more competition" or "We want more exposure"....well as a fan you should expect more.
    2 points
  27. Why? We have gone to a conference championship game twice and got murdered both times. We have a winning percentage of less than 40% since we became a FBS program...in 1995. Expecting this is just not reasonable. Hell, getting to 6 wins in a season has only happened 8 times here in the previous 29 seasons.

  28. defence... do you drive on the wrong side of the road?

  29. I hope that someday as a program we can get to the point to where we don't try to find relief from our poor performances in other teams failures.

  30. Better than losses to crappy opponents. But yes, we will probably get smoked in a bowl against a good team.

  31. Coach Morris said after last season the roster was mostly not "his guys", implying there wasn't buy in from everyone on the team then. But coach found some great players in the Portal and hopefully can continue that along with developing the freshman he recruited.

  32. I, too, have feared that we might be the embarrasing anamoly of the NCAA and play only 28, despite all the tweets this offseason about the mid majors having troubles filling their schedule. However, I have logged into my ticket account to try to verify my friend's claim and it is true. I don't have access to the tickets yet but within my order it has 16 home games with November 11 and December 11 listed against undetermined opponents and App State is already included. Will we know those opponents in less than eight days? At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is no. Although with Covid not a factor anymore, I don't know the exact date a schedule is locked up for modifications.

  33. Playing UNT Dallas would be so weird. I'm wondering what the chances are that this is it and we are going to be a few games short of a full schedule?

  34. EM doesn’t have it in him to make these tough calls IMO. We all know the writing is on the wall for Caponi, yet he trots him out there week to week hoping to catch flies with vinegar. The best thing is to replace Caponi with someone else in an interim basis for the rest of the season just to see if something can be jumpstarted. These are real decisions real HCs need to answer. Unfortunately, I think we all know what the answer to this question will be.

  35. “If you could just leave that NIL money on the check out desk with your keys to the locker room, please.”

  36. We need to let Caponi go and show that this program has turned the corner on expectations. This won't happen... but it is what *needs* to happen, and it would send a clear message that our program won't tolerate horrible play. This wouldn't negatively impact our outcome this year as our defense is already one of the worst in D1, but it would be a wake-up call to the staff and would allow us to start the interview process for our next DC... and give Caponi a head-start finding a better fit for him.

  39. We're 5-1, enjoy the ride man...we're 5-2 in forever, stop bitchin'....5-3 is still above .500, we should be happy with that. Look, no one is giving up. Everyone here has green blood running through their veins. We all want our team, our coaches and our players to be successful. The team definitely has some fight in them. The last HC had taken us as far as he could and it would take a new regime to get us to the next level and not repeat the mistakes of the past. It was not a rebuild. It was upward from where we were. That was the promise. Unfortunately the warning signs started to show up and have been flashing red for the last season and a half. Morris/Morris is the current version of Littrell/Fine. So I think what you are hearing is a lot of Mean Green anxiety coming to the surface with the realization that it's potentially happening all over again.

  40. Tulane is better than Memphis, obviously the overall record is benefitting Memphis, and they've got three easy opponents before they square off with Tulane at the end of the season.
