He was just an expensive insurance policy. He was never going to beat out the returning starter. He will only play if the starter goes down but what a nice option to fall back on. I'm happy with the QB we have now!10 points

The Mean Green Watching Party in the Beer Garden was an incredible success. The picture on the "Jumbotron" was very clear (distortion showing below is from my camera). The television is the size of a small billboard. The sound on the loudspeaker system was also loud and clear. It's always wonderful to watch a road game with a loud cheering crowd of Mean Green fans whenever you're not able to follow the team on the road.9 points

Hey everyone, I've been trying to find ways to support the players via NIL, and one of the ways I am doing that is by hosting a sports card show, and bringing in some UNT players to sign autographs. The first athlete I've hired is Chandler Morris, and in addition to the money I'm paying him, the best way to support him is by having a great turnout and making him feel loved. So to that extent, you're all invited to be a part of that on November 16 from 2pm-3pm at Vista Ridge in Lewisville. You can get free tickets here by using the code UNT. Hope to see anyone who can make it there! JUST ADDED: DT Sheffield as well. I hope to see lots of local GMGers out there showing support!8 points

but when will he start caring about the defense? The offense can put up big numbers but they also go silent for long stretches of the game, when opposition coaches make adjustments7 points

First: I want to be clear from my original response to you, I include you in the Mean Green masochist fans that I salute and value. I think you’re a great fan. To answer #2 for me: MGSF donations are philanthropic - at least to a significant degree. The idea of contributing scholarship money to kids going to college, many of those are first generation college students who are sacrificing to play football & other sports for our University, seems like a noble endeavor. I believe higher education changes lives. NIL in this unregulated hellscape feels like a gun barrel to fan’s heads. Give or else you’ve screwed your program into irrelevance. The intent of Name Image and Likeness was quickly bastardized by the sports power broker programs into simply “pay for play” with ZERO regulations, structure, and transparency. It took the greasy underbelly of college sports and simply put it out there for all to see…and worse being guilted into participating in. It all just feels so transactional and grimy.7 points

I neither root for nor against the guy. Seeing as he is very unlikely to make an NFL roster, this was probably his last opportunity to make good money from football. He's had the opportunity to show what he can do playing for FBS teams, now he gets his "retirement plan," so to speak. I was very disappointed when he left, but it's hard to blame the guy. As @Shark84 mentions, I have been pleasantly surprised that we actually upgraded the position when he left. So it's a win for all parties concerned.7 points

You know who our homecoming game is against. You spend more time on here than I do….6 points

I do what I want. Go to every home game and travel as much as I can to away games that make sense for me. I am not contributing to NIL when there is no commitment from players to stay. 77 new players in a year? Why would anyone donate when there are no real rules to this new world? If I got a sense that my contribution would make an impact I would donate? I don’t think it changes anything for our teams with the way it is currently set up. So…I do what I want and complain when I want. #firecaponi6 points

He took a bag of money and barely has to play. He knew he wasn't going to get a look at the NFL anyway. I was salty after he left but E. Morris has proven that he upgraded the position with C. Morris.6 points

So you have Navy, Army, ULM, and SHS* ranked, but you’re telling me we have to up our NIL game if we want to be any good? *and a few others on that list that I doubt are giving big NIL deals6 points

Man if I ripped off two 75-yard TDs I would be insufferable. Asking for a little NIL isn't nearly close to egregious haha6 points

I'm actually fine with this. Dude is awesome. Same with Chandler. Need to do whatever it takes to keep them both.5 points

Neither has Army. Their 6 FBS wins are against the bottom of the AAC. A combined 12-30. The 7th win is against 3-3 Lehigh. Maybe we can ease up on the Army fear.5 points

Yeah....they play at ULL on the 18th....so Dec. 20 is a pretty good guess.4 points

December 20th vs. App State is one of the rumored additions. Next year in Boone. https://x.com/madeformarch/status/1848796116361613698?t=_kFhnEYEOzcPnHMwRw5dsA&s=194 points

I would hope this season makes him care more about defense. He brought in a guy to run the 3-3-5 using the same logic that made Seth want to run the 3-3-5: it’s “hard to prepare for.” Side note: it still blows my mind that this defense that our offense-focused HCs have found challenging to prepare for is so easy for every other OC we play to prepare for…anyway… Season 1 defensive failure could be attributed to the new system, new personnel, etc. So, give it another year with better transfer portal players and see what happens. In season 2, it should be clear to Morris right now that with this offense and our schedule, he’d literally be cruising to an AAC conference championship game and be a legit contender for the CFP if he had a defense that was even middle-of-the-pack in FBS. However, since our defense struggles to tackle and stop other teams from scoring, we’re likely not going to end up in either scenario by the end of the season. If that realization doesn’t make him start caring about defense more, I’m not sure what will.4 points

Adam at MeanGreenNation is absolutely correct. I used to be an unconditional donor. Now I'm conditional. People that give unconditionally....God bless you. I truly mean that. As for me....conditional. I'll give when they give me a reason to give (such as win enough to gain national prominence like SO MANY other G5s have done.) The next time North Texas does that, will be the first. As for reasons to give: "do your duty for your alma mater" is not good enough anymore for me. If that's what they depend on to be successful, then we have the wrong people in charge. That's just me. If my lack of giving is what's holding the athletic department back and...I don't know......preventing the first 11 win season in the 100+ year history of the program then I don't know what to tell you. I guess NT will remain where it is. I don't have expectations or demands for the program. I watch them play. Don't like it when we lose. Love it when we win. Would love for us to finally reach our potential.4 points

It's especially aggravating for season ticket holders. (I assume you are one....since you're so interested in it, being finalized). We don't even know how many games we paid for.....or when some will even be....3 points

Do people care about who Houston is playing? Your biggest crowd of the year was against Rice at 28k. You barely crossed 25k against a good Iowa State team.3 points

Good article. Makes me less concerned when QBs transfer out....He's building a system that QBs will want to come play in. As long as he's here...our QB room should be in good shape.3 points

I can't see the AAC fulfilling our bowl obligations as it is. The conference current has 9 programs with losing records. But given the choice, I'd much rather North Texas play in the Independence Bowl than endure another trip to Frisco or the First Responders at SMU.3 points

You're 2-5, only punching air this year! Losing 42-14 to a 1-5 Kansas team, really? LOL3 points
-
Admittedly I have not. My question to you is how much of that falls on the teams they've played? We've seen what 2-5 looks like over the years. We know how bad a team has to be on all sides of the ball to go 2-5. They've played 4 teams who are 2-5, one who's 1-6 in UAB, and ECU who just fired their coach. We'd be undefeated with their schedule too.3 points

Kid is likely a genius. Parlayed a good season at UNT to a paid backup role at maybe the best academic institution outside the Ivy League. Thought he had already graduated and was working on his first masters while he was here last year. He’s using the system to the fullest. No problem with that at all, and good on him.3 points

Call me stupid without calling me stupid. Do you seriously think (1) I couldn’t figure out that this is a G5 poll and that (2) I thought ULM and SHS were actually ranked??? You say “aim a little higher,” but ULM is ahead of us, so there’s that. But no where did I say that we should aspire to be ULM or SHS, just pointing out that you obviously don’t need mega-NIL to be successful at the G5 level based on these rankings.3 points
-
I can root for a championship and not pay any NIL. UNT already has my money. Exorbitant TV revenue deals with networks and conferences (and thereby schools) created this NIL mess, not me the fan. Why should I now pay to be able to cheer on my college?3 points

If you’re anti-NIL collectives (understand the reasoning, no arguments needed) considering buying a shirt to support the athlete instead! https://nil.store/north-texas/notx-dt-sheffield-103 points

All this is a product of the system--by all means, hate what NIL has done to college sports. But I can't blame DT for trying to play the game he was placed in the middle of. He's not asking for NIL opportunities to play for a different program, as that one poster seems to infer; he's seeing what NIL opportunities he can find while playing for North Texas. At least for now.3 points

I am not happy that he was fired but I am happy that he was fired for being a shitty OC at OU since so many of their fans were assholes when we fired him.3 points
