  1. Save all that “But we’re 5-2, anyone would have taken that at the beginning of the season” BS. Everyone would have taken 5-2 because of how piss poor the defense was last year. Well, this team isn’t 6-1 because that defense is STILL piss poor. We scored 44 points…FORTY FOUR…and lost by 8! There is no f’in silver lining around that 💩

  2. You put up 650 yards and 44 points, you win. Period. Unless you had the worst defense in football and did nothing about it. That's the lone exception.

  3. UNT is 5-2. One game away from bowl eligibility with 5 to play. The offense is one of the best in the country. Yes the defense is struggling. But there are some key defenders that were available at Memphis. With complete roster turnover this team is ahead of schedule. At some points on offense last night this team had 5 true freshman out there. And still went toe to toe with a Memphis team that had over a million more to spend in NIL and roster building. Below is a pre fall depth chart. All players in red were unavailable for Memphis game. #GMG show up for homecoming and cheer on a fun team.

  4. They forced 7 punts, got the stop (FGA on a short field) to set up the offense for. a game-tying drive. Memphis was 38% on third down.

  5. We're still in the hunt for the conference championship. Do I like our chances against Army? No. That game terrifies me. But, except for Tech, we've been competitive in every game. I'm so tired of this board bitching.

  6. Pair this offense with even an average defense and it's the best team in UNT history.

  7. This offense makes every game winnable. This defense makes every game losable.

  8. As long as Caponi is running our defense we can expect this type of game every time we play a good quality opponent. Morris is going to have to get over his philosophy of I can outscore everyone because with someone like Caponi you can't

  9. The old timers on this board are never happy. We have turned the page and improved since last season. Has the defense improved, yes. Is it great, no. The offense is better with Chandler Morris at QB. The teams playing hard and bought in. We're one win away from being bowl eligible with a bunch of young guys. The future is bright. Smile a little, it's ok.

  10. I said we forced 7 punts, got the stop we needed when we needed and held them to 38% on third down. There was plenty to *not* like and I tweeted and put in the MGN chat(s) all game -- we couldn't get home on the big pressures, we couldn't get to Seth H unless he held the ball for 6 seconds. We were always teetering -- one tackle away -- from allowing a big run. 49 got beat over the top on a huge TD. But I also think this defense has progressed from Absolute Garbage to Can Get A Stop. I think we are hyper focused on our defense and unwilling to see some progress. Consider that coming into this game plenty of people would have outright traded ours for theirs. Memphis' defense was talked about like they were championship worthy. From Silverfield, to Hennigan, to our own fanbase. Their 3-3-5 got sliced up for 653 yards, 32 first downs and 44 points. Oh and two 75-yard scores to start the game. In college football everyone gives up points. Even Georgia, who played so well last night, got killed by a 17-year old wideout. It happens. Can you get enough stops to give your offense a chance? Can you get the stop you need to have one last chance? Those are the most important things to me. They could have done much better, but I like that this defense is closer to an AAC title defense than it was last year.

  11. Someone we kinda forget to mention is Porter! He’s been incredible coming in as a 4th string RB! Great job Porter on another big night!

  12. I just love countering the idea that the real ideal North Texas fan is a grown man who spends his Saturday night mad online bitching when we lose. If I don’t fall in line with that archetype then I’m enabling the mediocrity, something or another. I want Caponi gone too. Just pointing out some information that I think most fans are unaware of.

  13. Who are you calling Old Timers? I like Morris, and I would be really happy if we take one of the next two. We are getting better, and for once, we are really better.

  14. Frustrating loss! Really felt like it was winnable through the 3rd quarter and then Memphis got smart and went back to the run. Still drinking the green flavorade this morning, Tulane almost shit the bed against Rice this weekend, we can get these guys at home.

  15. I’d buy this excuse if you could answer these questions for me. - At what point during that game did you feel that Memphis’ quarterback was under consistent pressure, hurried, or thrown off his game? - At what point during that game did you think to yourself, “Our defense has taken Memphis’ offense out of what they want to do”? - At what point during that game did you think, “We just took the lead again and I think this defense will hold the lead”? You cannot HONESTLY say that any of these questions can be answered in a way that favors North Texas. You CAN though insert North Texas everywhere you see Memphis in the above questions and have a different answer to the questions.

  16. Memphis was terrified of us with 1:05 on the clock and no time outs. No moral victories, we lost and we shot ourselves in the foot a lot on all sides of the ball. But they were scared.

  17. Mid-season firings don’t make any sense unless you think it helps you win games now. Anything else can wait until the off-season.

  19. Not saying the defense is great by any means but we held them to 5 straight 3-and-outs from the end of the 2nd to end of the 3rd quarters. The problem is we came out of that run with 3 total points of our own. The 2 minute touchdown drives are fun but when we're not explosive on offense, we don't get a whole lot on that side of the ball either. I think we had one drive with 48 yards and no points. Everything else with no points was around 10 yards or less. It wouldn't hurt to run some clock a bit so the defense can rest. This is the same issue we often had with Littrell's teams.

  20. I'm sorry that your frellings were hurt. North Texas went on the road and challenged a team that is bigger, faster, stronger, more experienced, has much larger budget, and has significantly more fan support; basically every advantage. We lost due to a tying 12 yard touchdown toss that fell incomplete as time expired. The Mean Green almost knocked off Memphis tonight. I am never pleased with a loss, but tonight was an excellent effort by our team and our coaching staff. Honestly, they represented our university well and I am proud of them. Memphis fans create cohesion by wearing Blue to support their teams. Other colors may be more trendy but Memphis fans do what is necessary to support their school.

  21. If we renewed Caponi for ¼ of what were paying him, he’d still be overpaid. I really hope he doesn’t get renewed.

  22. At this point I don't think Caponi is here next year. Just won't have his contract renewed. I would be disappointed in Mosley and team if they aren't already looking for other options.

  23. What does firing him mid-season gain us? He only has a 2 year contract. At this rate I doubt he stays.

  24. I agree but just wouldn't it be an incredible thing if Morris decided he wanted an elite defense also and put the effort into hiring a coordinator that was proven. With Eric Morris's offensive mind we could be one of the elite non-power programs if we get serious about defense

  25. Sucks to lose but man is this offense something. Never seen anything like it in 36 years of supporting the Mean Green.

  26. The defense is not good, but going for it on 4th and 2 from your 40, right after your defense forced a punt, does nothing to encourage your defense. So yes, the defense is bad, but the head coach doesn't do much to help them doing stuff like that. Is this Leach 2.0?

  27. Maybe it's not incredibly obvious that we need to work on our identity and our branding. Like I may have said before, we are the worst in the nation about letting disloyal employees monkey with our branding. The problem was allowed to develop by our previous two university presidents, and Harrison Keller has yet to take any action. Sadly, it would only take him less than 5 minutes but I guess he's too lazy to fix the problem.

  30. I know I'll regret saying this but I still have faith we can beat Tulane. Army on the other hand scares the hell out of me.

  31. 2 point conversion there would have made it a 3 point game. That made sense.

  32. It's on Morris for retaining Caponi after last year. Everyone needs to stop making excuses for why we kept them the reality is you did not make a change when you had the worst defense in college football and that is 100% on Morris and our AD.

  33. This article mentions Eric Morris as one of five possible replacements for Littrell. https://atozsports.com/college-football/oklahoma-sooners-news/five-coaches-oklahoma-sooners-should-pursue-to-replace-oc-seth-littrell/

  34. Before the game, if somebody told you we’d be down 4 getting the ball to start the 2nd half, every one of you MFers would have been all-in.

  35. For everyone downvoting, it's a joke not a political comment. Texas historically always loses when he goes to their games. Like a curse. It's a weird fact

  36. Unfortunately we won't be able to keep up this 75 yards per play average with this field position... May have to settle for a 71 yard play

  37. There is no moral victory. We have the capability to beat this team if we come to play. No such thing as a moral victory IMO.

  38. Stats and inspirational play!!! How many D lineman does Memphis have? Their rotation was unreal.

  39. The record for most CAREER 400-yard passing games here at North Texas is 3. Tied between Chandler Morris and Mason Fine. I know we’re all mad at the defense right now, but Chandler and DT are both on insane runs right now. 3 guaranteed chances left to see them play at home.

  40. To whom is this message intended? Firing coordinators during the season almost never does much to improve play. You can’t bring in new players, you can install a totally new system, any new outside coordinator won’t know the players. Is this just to make the fans feel better? It makes fans feel better till the next loss or just poor performance when they will be screaming to fire the next coach. I notice the folks that get paid to analyze football teams almost never call for midseason coordinator firings because you’re spending money with no positive result.

  41. I can Remember not to long ago when we were all screaming the players gave up the second half. One thing we can all agree on the players never gave up and fought until the end of the game. We continue to get better each week. I think if anyone said before the season we would have. A very good chance to be 8-4 or 9-3 most of us would be happy. I feel we also have a very good chance to winning the bowl game we will assuredlyget.

  42. Going into this game I was worried we may get blown out. But still have a sense of being disappointed after a close loss. Part of it being that looking at the stats we beat them in every category except the turn over battle and the score, oh and tied in sacks allowed. Just feels like a game we could have won.

  43. It just never felt like we were gonna win this game tonight…

  49. The other name for "moral victory" is "loss". The ONLY thing that matters this year is the W-L column. UNT has to show it can play and win at this level if there is to ever be an invite to the next level. #hit6 must die. Moral Victory must die. Old Denton must die. Just WIN, baby!
