Great article from DCTF on the Mean Green. Lots of detail on some of the plays from the FAU game. Well worth the read! https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2024/10/17/how-north-texas-built-the-g5-s-best-passing-attack?fbclid=IwY2xjawF-Wl9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHW2eBwpnLwZyztIAL8tdlq7qfOktSoFrNGykO6nixJ64Q-Ne8LFoPOsAUQ_aem_jc36aXzoWywsBoQq_DC_OQ5 points

Also notable about our overall record vs Memphis is that from 1960 to 1975 we played them 14 times and lost all of them. We couldn't beat them, even in the Joe Greene/Steve Ramsey era. We skipped playing them in 76, and then in 77/78 Hayden Fry broke the curse.5 points

Nice turnout in downtown Denton...about 500 people and all had fun. The team entrance on the Mean Green firetruck was a nice touch.5 points

Lesson Traylor should have learned from Seth. Secure the bag when you can. UTSA is just seeing how volatile G5 “program building” is. It’s all about the QB. They benefited from it for a loooonnnggg time. Now they pay the piper.4 points

Just an update, I have created a universal interest form for all events - and added over 40 future away games for football, women's soccer, volleyball, and men's and women's basketball as options, along with some key home games. Since I do this in my spare time, realistically we're not going to actually have full-blown group outings for all of these games. The goal would be to have multiple leaders within this organization that would rotate being event leaders for these out-of-town games and creating contacts with UNT alumni in key visiting markets - like Memphis, Birmingham, New Orleans, Miami, Tulsa, Charlotte and others - that can help us from afar building the engagement away from Denton. Obviously the existing alumni chapters in Houston and Central Texas will be huge lifts as well. Just from the effort being made from my home office, we bought 40 group-discounted tickets for the game in Mobile and 57 for Texas Tech so far this year. So if you know you're interested in going to a future away game, like the UTSA game coming up on 11/15, fill out this form! https://forms.gle/pyt6iTTJJsMDTE7b93 points

The second major hurricane in three weeks, widespread power outages and 30% of gas stations in the state being out of fuel might have something to do with it. South Florida had 37 tornados during Milton, the most in a single day in state history. It has been beyond insane here.3 points

Apologies in advance if this is an inappropriate or spammy post, but I wanted to extend an invitation to join the Mean Green Infantry. We are a new, unsponsored group of passionate Mean Green fans dedicated to increasing fan and alumni engagement and raising our profile by coordinating group outings to make our presence felt at away and neutral site games. https://www.facebook.com/groups/meangreeninfantry Last weekend we had over 35 people buy together for the men's basketball game at SMU. We're going even bigger for the last game of the regular season at Rice. So join us! Those group tickets are only $10-30. We're also working on a pregame tailgate. Here's the link to our event page for the Rice game, I'll be making our initial purchase of tickets next week: https://www.facebook.com/share/RQYQAKVGsHKZXjTY/?mibextid=9VsGKo2 points

Always enjoy seeing Tylor Perry at these UNT events. I wish Hodge would get him on the coaching staff.2 points

They were shut down. The Alabama BoR had to get a police escort off campus, otherwise they wouldn't have made it out... period. Perfect example of why fans of G5 programs should NEVER root for the likes of texas u. If given the opportunity to do so, they would shut down the other programs in their systems, just like bama did.2 points

Comparing the viewership numbers to our home attendance, it looks clear to me that our fan base did indeed watch the game. Maybe questions need to be asked to our school administration about why our fan base is that small.2 points

Other fanbases find reasons to watch their team, ours finds reasons not to.2 points

So, sounds like it's settled. It's Eastside for the game on Saturday.2 points

I hate this for the UAB faithful. Literally going from the brink of program shutdown, to drumming up a ton of support, and achieving a nice level of success... only to see it spiral down the toilet for a silly experiment.2 points

Put us in the Armed Forces Bowl you cowards! It’s in the metroplex. The American has a tie in. One of the largest employers of our alumni sponsors the event. It’s on a Saturday! Please make some noise on social media and let’s go to a bowl that matters.2 points

Fumbles are generated by being physical on defense. That we are not. We drag tackle and try to bump people down. At least we are gap sound for now and I'm happy about that. We can work on physical, but that is the primary reason we don't create turnovers.2 points

NTSU? Let’s kick their ass for disrespecting us; I read the stat's, we have a good chance at winning this game. UNT fans show up in Memphis and let’s have the last laugh!!!2 points

Update, we are now on four social media platforms, please follow us/join if you have accounts on any: Facebook group Twitter Instagram LinkedIn I have been working on coordinating group outings for the games on Labor Day Weekend at South Alabama, 9/14 at Texas Tech, and Friday 11/15 at UTSA. I am not meaning to compete with the UNT Ticket Office, but there is no real effort from the AD to get a lot of people to the road games. Plus, the opposing schools pass along their standard ticket price which makes it a harder sell for UNT. For example, tickets in the worst sections through UNT go for $37 at UTSA, and $45 at FAU or Memphis. So for those interested, I'm trying to buy our initial block of tickets ASAP for Tech and UTSA. South Alabama group tickets start selling on August 1. Saturday, 8/31 at South Alabama (Labor Day Weekend on the Coast) Infantry tickets: $13 ($20 standard price, $23 through UNT) Interest form: https://forms.gle/UzitbcpzoetygGfg8 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/20vtYbKkf Saturday, 9/14 at Texas Tech Infantry tickets: $27.50 or $37.50 ($30 or $45 standard price, $35 through UNT for corner sections) Interest form: https://forms.gle/973D8Ywq3RLEmETb9 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/1sJ6oKSeu Friday, 11/15 at UTSA Infantry tickets: $17-$31 ($18-$32 standard price, $37 through UNT for corner sections) Interest form: https://forms.gle/NxbVGJBST5ds2x5i6 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/2cYLmHJ08 I'm coordinating with the alumni chapter in San Antonio to make it a big event in November. There are also talks with the Houston alumni chapter to promote not only UTSA but the South Alabama game, now since Charles Barkley has made Galveston's dirty beaches known nationwide lmao. And reminder this is not only for football. Our group outings started with basketball season last year. I also want to encourage folks going to the Tech game to support the soccer ladies on Sunday the 15th at Abilene Christian on their way home. I have not pitched this to the Houston alumni chapter yet, but October 11th-13th provides a great opportunity to get folks engaged with volleyball at Rice Friday, a chance for an FAU watch party Saturday, and women's soccer at Rice Sunday.2 points

I was going to add that, but they have a sort of, relatively new stadium. However, I did forget one and we do have a new one.... They would have a better crowd if... fans didn't stay home to watch the game on TV there weren't any other college football games being played at the same time1 point

That's a very negative attitude you have there. Unfortunately, you are probably correct.1 point

I haven't paid any attention to what's been happening at UAB, so I didn't know most of the things mentioned in the article. Specifically, I didn't know that when Clark retrired in 2022, that the interim coach (Vincent) wasn't retained even after leading them to a bowl victory and he's now the coach that has ULM at 5-1.1 point

We didn’t come to the American to play weenie hut junior football. We want to play games on Saturdays? We have to compete. College football is getting harder, budgets are tighter, and it’s hard to find a bar in Georgia to watch ESPNU during the same time slot as Texas vs UGA.1 point

I forgot all about SFA, but thanks for reminding me since the defense only gave up 13 points that game. Defense gave up 10 points to Wyoming. Defense kept us in the Tulsa game until the offense woke up midway through the 2nd quarter. 14 of Tulsa’s 20 points (and arguably 17 of the 20) came in mop up duty. So the defense has games where they’ve given up 13, 10, and 6 for all practical purposes and you’re saying the offense had to save those games? As I said, I’ll give you USA and FAU. Not giving you Tech because it was a meltdown all the way around. I could make a good argument that the offense was worse than the defense in Lubbock.1 point

I can see the point you are trying to make. I saw too many times players grabbing an FAU player and they cannot get him on the ground or they get drug for another 5 yards or more. I saw too many times a player diving at an FAU players feet. I feel like the secondary would quit when the FAU QB started to scramble leaving a receiver completely uncovered instead of sticking with them. My point is Caponi cannot make the plays for them so I see your point there, but he and his staff have to do something about getting these guys to get people on the ground and stay with their coverage. It doesn't do any good to get to the ball carrier if you cannot stop them because you can't tackle. I believe the great Vince Lombardi once said "Everybody out there grabbing and nobody tackling."1 point
