The Memphis-South Florida game is gonna be on The Weather Channel. Jim Cantore doing play by play.6 points

If I were WKU's athletics director, I'd give performance bonuses to every coach on my staff who can get their team to run up the score & beat the living piss out of MTSU in their respective sport. MAC was ready to take WKU & MTSU as a package deal, and MTSU said "no thanks".6 points

Make the players employees of the school, take away scholarships and the free room and board, pay them a salary, take out for taxes, and sign legally binding contracts, and institute a fair salary cap across the board.5 points

Well maybe it is because we have a better team this year, therefore we didn't have to worry about being on ESPN 2 or ESPN U. should we take care of FAU this week and beat either Memphis or Tulane we might actually be on ESPN. Go Green 💚 uphold our end of the deal. Let's show the Tech came was an outlier. Beat FAU by 3 or more TD'S.5 points

It takes sustained success over multiple years is the thing. I grew up a Baylor fan during the Morris-into-Briles years and watched it with them. Baylor didn't sell out their first home game (against SMU no less) in 2012 after they had a record breaking season and a freaking Heisman winner. I remember being at that game and pretty disappointed there were large chunks of FCS empty. Then they went on to an 8 win season and a second consecutive bowl win. Then in 2013 they won the Big 12 and went 11-1 and their season average of tickets sold was the highest in that stadiums history. I was at two games against OU and Texas that year and they were both complete sellouts if i recall. UCF didn't sell out their first game in 2018 after going undefeated and even claiming a national championship. TCU was 5,000 short of a sellout in their first home conference game as a Big 12 member in 2012. For schools like us it requires a pattern. Just simple math. Nobody cares about a team that goes 7-5 and loses its bowl every year. You can make fun of games like the Cheez It Bowl or the Pop Tart Bowl or whatever but they do matter! Gotta set a standard of winning when it counts so that it hurts when you don't. Then we won't see a half empty stadium for a 4-1 team.4 points

This will change weekly through the end of the season. I don't get why everyone is worried about this right now. Lot's of football left to be played.4 points

At the time, Wilken said she had concerns over key terms of the deal, noting that she was primarily concerned that the deal would require boosters only provide money to athletes for a "valid business purpose."3 points

My problem with these games that are early on is you lose out on potential practice time which many coaches will say is one of the best things that comes out of these bowl games3 points

Most casual fans don't understand the slimy anticompetitive mafia like business of revenue college sports. I find it ironic that when a few players get a more fair share of the economic pie that is the bridge too far for long time diehards. Most alumni came to the school for an education in spite of other school with better athletic programs. And unlike TCU and SMU, their parents probably did not have funds to give their college graduate a head start financially so that by the time they are 30 they have 10k of disposable income to throw at college athletics. The program has been bad for most of my life. And the City of Denton has always wanted to be more of a bedroom community than a college town. I really didn't know how unfortunate that was until I spent time in college towns. Denton of 25 years ago was almost hostile to North Texas Athletics3 points

I’d like to play at the Cotton Bowl or at Amon Carter or AT&T (as if) but otherwise, I’d like to go somewhere a bit more exotic. And, I want to play and beat a “name brand” team.2 points

Interesting that they like UTSA don't have a true IPF like we do but he doesn't mention them. Herman on the need of an IPF and schools willingness to make one “Yeah, and I, and I know that Brian White our athletic director, shares that vision with me. You know, we made the jump into this conference, I hope with eyes very wide open. You know, of the 14 teams in this conference, us and Charlotte are the only two that don't either have an indoor practice facility or plans to get one. And so we're working really hard behind the scenes. I know Brian and Mary are, and it's fun to see that and then understand. And the university, hey, we decided to be in this conference. We better act like it, you know. And so although it has affected these last few weeks, it's been nice to see people on campus acknowledge like, Hey, this is something we need, and we need it in a hurry and something temporarily, even, you know, by next off season. So I think the wheels are definitely in motion, I don't want to over say, nothing's been promised to me, but I am confident that everybody that needs to know how important it is does know how important it is, and is working really hard to make sure that we get there,” Herman said.2 points

Outside of the NY6 and a few others, all bowls are viewed equally by the average CFB fan. Playing TXST in Frisco would be awesome. It would be a great crowd and an opponent we actually care to beat.2 points

You wanna' put butts in seats? Here's the solution. Beat FAU. Play the Memphis game like the Arkansas game, instead of the TTech game. Win the Tulane game. The Army game will be a sellout. Alternatively, play Memphis like TTech. Lose to Tulane. Watch Army run and throw all over us. There'll be 10k or less at the rest of the games.2 points

Haven’t seen this mentioned, but once again…… We started the season out pretty well. Got some local and national attention, to the point we were a trendy pick. “Tech better watch out!” Reece Davis on ESPN Game Day picked us as his “superdog”. We were starting to turn a corner regarding perception. And not only do we get beat, we got absolutely destroyed on national TV. Outclassed, out coached, out played and embarrassed. We were taking a few steps forward only to get hit in the face ONCE AGAIN and get launched back to what many think is our rightful place. How many people paying attention to our game vs TTech didn’t even bother to look at the schedule to see our next games much less make plans to show up. This probably happened about halfway through the 2nd quarter of that game. We are in a situation where we have no room for error. When you’re in this situation, no amount of marketing can overcome getting embarrassed like we were in Lubbock. We had our chance. Blew it. so this comment from the article: “He’s held up his end of the bargain.” depends on the lens we use and the standard we apply. if we use the standard of “holy crap it’s a miracle we’re 4-1 and we never do this” then Yes, he’s held up his end of the bargain. And yes. This start is the exception not the norm. But if we want the casual fans to show up, that standard won’t work. So if we use the standard of “we need to be ranked or pushing the top 25 and knocking on the door of the playoff. Getting national attention getting national credibility” which WILL get the casual fan to show up, then Eric Morris’s performance in Lubbock means he did NOT hold up his end of the bargain. The coach at UNT, whoever it is, cannot have it both ways.2 points

Just give us one thread without trying to overpolitize it please. The country is so polarized that no one is changing their mind. Don't need to get anymore threads shut down. Absolutely no person will be changed by this comment. There are other interesting issues to focus on.1 point

We are not Rice. We have a huge alumni base that has forgotten about their alma mater. Our issue with attendance and TV viewership should be a quick fix if we are smart. Why do I say this? Because at this moment, UNT football actually has a product to sell that the DFW community and our disenfranchised alumni base will get behind. So here is the plan... Get our athletic department media team to create a commercial promoting the game at FAU and have it run on the local stations all next week. Our game got picked up for ESPN2 in primetime on Saturday. The commercial needs to include imagery of some of the local communities... Signs and water towers type stuff (Denton, Dallas, Fort Worth, and some of the smaller towns too). Highlight our offense stats, and include our most explosive plays this season. Make sure everyone in DFW knows we have the most explosive offense in all of college football. We also need to get the commercial out on X, and have our celebrity alumni retweet it to their fans. It will cost some money, but it can only increase our viewership, which would make it worth the expense. If it works, do the same thing for our Memphis game, should it also get picked up for broadcast Or we can just sit around and keep doing what has yet to work.1 point

maybe stop trying to ban all the books? I'm sure every Fortune 500 company has as an interview requirement of 1000 words on the lessons of Beowulf before hiring a new data analyst personally if I was in a hiring position and came across an illiterate Ivy League grad, I'd be doubly intrigued because they sure as shit must be really good at something.1 point

Because south Florida.....is not expected to get that much rain from Milton. (this could change). As of right now......I looked up the 10 day for Boca......about 1/2 inch of rain between now and Friday. On the other hand.....Tampa is expected to get almost 9 inches of rain Wednesday. I know those rainfall estimates are somewhat iffy. But that's why.....I think our game will be fine. USF and UCF on the other hand.....1 point

The underlying issue has less to do with sports and more to do with the university as a whole. We have the stigma of being a second choice school, or a school that is for working class kids who can't afford to move hundreds of miles away. There is some truth to this, but how do you get people to be proud of this accomplishment instead of hiding from it? Its kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. If the alumni base largely sees themselves as inferior to some other brands, why would an outsider think any different? Texas is so large that getting into the flagship schools isn't even possible for most college students. If you look at small states like Kansas, OK, AL, OR, etc, it is very easy to into their flagship schools because there just isn't as much competition. But they don't have any issue showing pride in their school. Being in this state puts a school like ours in a unique disadvantage, partially because the PUF has held back most of the public universities, but also because the perception that comes with not being the flagship school. How do you overcome this? I don't know.1 point

Production costs will be minimal because we can create the commercial in house. Air time is expensive, but we can target certain times (5 & 10 o'clock news), instead of all day long. That should reduced the cost some. The cost may still be high, but the cost of continuing our current plan will be falling further behind. UTSA, Texas State, and now SHSU are all gaining more relevancy as we make excuses for not marketing our athletics.1 point

As someone who makes commercials for a living and has worked with ad agencies and media buyers, what you're proposing will cost BIG money, not just "some money." Especially during a Presidential election year where TV airtime comes at a premium. For a marketing campaign to work you need both reach and frequency. The DFW metro is the #5 DMA in the country so you're going to spend boat-loads of cash to reach the DFW metroplex. Next is frequency. In order to make an impact in the minds of viewers, this ad would need to run multiple times, not just once. So now take the reach costs and multiply it by the frequency costs and you're looking at one helluva investment (mid six-figures) for a single FAU game. Unfortunately the math doesn't make sense because the ROI isn't there.1 point
