Need to beat FAU in Miami. After that we face #7 at Memphis, #6 Tulane at DATCU, and #5 Army at DATCU on consecutive Saturdays - a stretch that will define this team.5 points

It's wonderful being 4-1, but there's a reason we are the second lowest ranked 1-loss team at #73 (Eastern Michigan also at 4-1 is #82). 3 of our 4 wins (not really counting the SFA win which ironically may be one of the better wins of the 4) are against teams with a combined record of 5-12 who have collectively been outscored 456-196. Of course, some of those points against are ours, so there's that. No win on the road is easy, but next up is #109 FAU at 2-3. Hopefully we take care of business in Boca, but we will really find out about the mettle of this team over the following three games with Memphis, Tulane and Army. Let's do this.4 points

The Tech game was our chance to show where we stand against higher level competition, and we totally embarrassed ourselves. I can't blame the writers for feeling that way, we need to show that game was a mistake if we want to get higher consideration. Go out on the field and prove it.4 points

I don’t think we will ever see this defense against a competent defense. That’s just not how football works. 😂😂😜😜4 points

Because south Florida.....is not expected to get that much rain from Milton. (this could change). As of right now......I looked up the 10 day for Boca......about 1/2 inch of rain between now and Friday. On the other hand.....Tampa is expected to get almost 9 inches of rain Wednesday. I know those rainfall estimates are somewhat iffy. But that's why.....I think our game will be fine. USF and UCF on the other hand.....3 points

This will change weekly through the end of the season. I don't get why everyone is worried about this right now. Lot's of football left to be played.3 points

Does anyone else wonder where we'd be as a school and athletic program if our name became Texas State in 1989 instead of UNT? I was a student when our name changed and the perception back then was that the Texas legislature and University of Texas would never allow a school to become Texas State.3 points

I will bring it up because no one is talking about it. With Milton expected to hit Wed, do we expect to play Sat?? Arrangements would need to be made soon if it's going to switch to Denton or something else. The team would need time to get out.2 points

Looking at their schedule, there’s a very real possibility Army comes into DATCU on November 9th at 8-0 and ranked. Also, did you know Army has won their last 9 games, with their last loss against UMASS last October?2 points

I think Washington State and Oregon State should be included in this poll. You know, to get ahead of the inevitable push to declare the new-PAC above the rest of these conferences and to watch the reactions in Pullman and Corvallis. Hahaha.2 points

I'd say it's pretty helpful for anybody that is traveling to the game. There's a 30 minute unknown, but it let's people know if it's going to be a morning game or night one and can make lodging/flight plans accordingly. The channel choice is really a non-factor. Is there anybody that has ESPNU and not ESPN2 or vice versa?2 points

The south side is not the “good” side of this storm. It’s the “dirty” side that includes heavy rain, storm surge and higher winds. The storm surge won’t be an issue for Boca Raton. Praying that it miraculously weakens and moves fast.2 points

The thing that always baffles me is that UNT does not lack for sports fans. But we do lack for UNT sports fans. Trust is earned over a long period of time so I *think* if we can sustain of level of competitiveness without a huge drop off or let downs, you could see a point where we average 25k+ for a season. But then on the flip side you see basketball do what they do and still struggle with consistent attendance. So idk… glad it’s not my job to figure this out.2 points

College Football Bowl Projections for 2024-25 - Athlon Sports First Responder Bowl (Jan. 3) Tie-In: Big 12 vs. AAC/CUSA Projection: UCF vs. North Texas2 points

AAC Favorites: Army 35.2% (up 3.9%), Navy 25.7% (down 5.5%), Tulane 22.7% (up 7.3%) Still in contention: Memphis 10.2% (down 1.7%) Long shots: North Texas 4.1% (down 1.0%) The AAC race boils down to two unbeatens versus a red-hot challenger. Army and Navy each moved to 5-0 with comfortable wins over outmanned opposition -- Navy won 34-7 over Air Force, while Army pummeled Tulsa 49-7 -- and are now 69th and 70th, respectively, in SP+. But Tulane has outscored a pair of AAC opponents (South Florida and UAB) by a combined 116-30 over the past two weeks. The Green Wave lost a pair of nonconference games to big-name opponents (Kansas State and Oklahoma) and might therefore remain a step back in the race for the G5's playoff bid. But they're athletic and marvelous at the moment. It's not completely over for Memphis just yet, by the way; the Tigers are projected favorites in each of their next six conference games despite underachieving terribly against both Navy (in a loss) and Middle Tennessee (in a closer-than-expected win). They still boast more upside than most G5 teams, the defense has only underachieved against Navy, and the offense won't face another top-100 defense until Tulane in Week 14. They could still make a run, and SP+ hasn't completely given up on explosive North Texas either. But three teams still very much lead the way. via ESPN.com2 points

The tech game was definitely a perception nightmare. We got caught in a momentum avalanche where 1 bad play led to another one, and another one. By the time we got out it was embarrassing. That being said, I think that game affected both programs for the better. Tech got a little bit of swagger back, and we were forced to admit we needed changes on defense. Let’s see how it plays out from here. I believe that, even though it hasn’t been the strongest competition, our last 2 games have gotten the attention of our conference mates. We aren’t “ sneaking up on anyone else this year.2 points

DCTF - Note: Teams are measured against the overall strength of their conference. 1. Texas Longhorns 5 - 0 Texas was idle in Week 6 ahead of the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma. The Longhorns should be the No. 1 ranked team in the country by Monday afternoon. 2. Texas A&M Aggies 5 - 1 Conner Weigman and Nic Scourton led the Aggies to a statement victory at home over Mizzou. Texas A&M is 3-0 in SEC play and on a 5-game winning streak. 3. SMU Mustangs 5 - 1 The Ponies are in ACC contention after consecutive wins over Florida State and Louisville. Kevin Jennings passed for over 200 yards and rushed for over 100 in Week 6. 4. Texas Tech Red Raiders 5 - 1 Tahj Brooks topped 100 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown in a late-night victory at Arizona for an important road win. 5. Sam Houston Bearkats 5 - 1 Sam Houston thumped UTEP on the road to start its march towards a Conference USA title in Year 2 as an FBS program. K.C. Keeler deserves his flowers. 6. North Texas Mean Green 4 - 1 The Mean Green was idle in Week 6. They continue conference play this weekend on the road at FAU. 7. Texas State Bobcats 3 - 2 Texas State stopped a two-game losing streak with a rare road win at Troy. The Bobcats remain in Sun Belt Conference contention. 8. Houston Cougars 2 - 4 A road win over TCU propels the Coogs up the list despite a losing record. Zeon Chriss looked tremendous in his first start as Houston's quarterback. 9. TCU Horned Frogs 3 - 3 TCU has lost three of its last four games after the home defeat to Houston. Penalties and turnovers are dooming the Frogs. 10. Baylor Bears 2 - 4 Baylor is now 0-4 against Big 12 foes in 2024 even though the Week 2 defeat at Utah doesn't technically count as a conference loss. 11. UTSA Roadrunners 2 - 3 UTSA gets a chance to right the ship in Week 7 against Rice. The Roadrunners were idle on Saturday. 12. Rice Owls 1 - 4 The Owls had a much-needed weekend off to regroup following the Charlotte loss in Week 5. 13. UTEP Miners 0 - 5 Scotty Walden's group remains winless after five games of his tenure. The second half of the schedule is much easier than the first six games. #132 points

For the first time in forever we have rank potential. Hear me out. 1. beat FAU in that house of horrors where we have been stomped before. 2. beat Memphis Tulane and Army. Now we may win 1 may win none but if we take advantage of this opportunity November could be special. GMG2 points

I'd venture a guess that this season, more UNT students and alumni watched us play on TV against Tech than will ever attend a game this season in Denton...because they know Tech students and alums. And they saw us losing at halftime by about 40+. Similar to the last several seasons against SMU, the one game that UNT students and alums act like they care about football every year, we would just get annihilated. I mean, not even competitive. So again, we know how it is here in the DFW Metroplex. People care a lot about old SWC teams not named Rice. And when we play them and get manhandled, we lose 90% of the people for the season. Playing Wyoming and Tulsa at home aren't gonna get UNT students or alumni rushing up I-35 to get to those games, in Denton or not. SFA did better because we know people who went to SFA, we don't now many students or fans of Wyoming, Tulsa, or most of the AAC's teams. What I've come to is that bitching about attendance is a losing proposition. If fans don't care to follow our teams, sobeit. But Grant McCasland found a way to win with support that averaged about a third of the Pit's capacity. And he went on to a bigger job. No reason that Morris can't do the same thing, too. But Littrell didn't care about the fans because he was an introvert, McCarney went insane trying to figure out why people don't care about UNT football int eh middle of the most fertile hotbed for the sport in the country, and anyone else before this had to deal with the decrepit toilet known as Fouts to get people to come to a game, while being a mile away from the action.2 points

I appreciate your attempts to think outside the box and propose something that will work to get more interest in our games. A lot of what you suggested is great and will eventually help if we start winning, especially given EM's offense which is much more exciting to fans. However, marketing has little effect on people that simply aren't interested in your product. Of the nearly half a million alumni (300k+ in DFW area) probably 80-90% just don't care. They didn't care when they were in school and they don't care now. The ONLY thing that will get people interested in UNT football is WINNING and doing it CONSISTENTLY and I suspect the majority of people that eventually start coming to our games if we start winning aren't even alumni. They'll be our own version of T-shirt fans, but that's okay. But we have to start WINNING and not $%&* the bed every time we get close to breaking through. In our 42 seasons of FBS from 1970 to now, we've only had 12 winning seasons, with 6 of those coming in the 12 seasons before the 1983 drop to I-AA and 6 in the nearly 30 seasons since the return to FBS in 1995. Our 12 seasons of I-AA had some of our best success, with winning seasons in 6 of the 12: 1983, 1986-1990, which included two teams going to the I-AA playoffs. Those 6 winning seasons of I-AA encompassed the entirety of my attendance at UNT, so I'm pretty familiar with the FB atmosphere at the time, and despite it being enjoyable, attendance was still a problem. There were attempts to get the frats involved, but they mostly attended for a half while spending most of the time not even watching the game. Then there were the T-shirt fans for other schools. You couldn't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a AtM, UT, or OU, etc. shirt when you walked around campus. You know they weren't interested in UNT FB. We've seen a couple of times how we can actually get a great crowd to show up, e.g. bowl games, but the bottom line is to get that enthusiasm, you have got to put a WINNING team on the field and it can't be once every 8 years.2 points

Marriage rates are at a 50 year low though. Less kids are being raised in 2-parent households. https://www.bgsu.edu/ncfmr/resources/data/family-profiles/loo-marriage-rate-US-geographic-variation-2022-fp-23-23.html My opinion is this generation, close to my generation as I'm in my 30s, aren't being taught accountability, organizational skills, work ethic, and communication skills. I see it with my step-kids whose schools allow them to turn-in work whenever with no penalty even if well past the deadline. These kids also don't know how to speak to a human face-to-face or over the phone unless it's written messages. They think it's awkward. I've had to tell my wife to make them order their own food when we go out because they don't want to speak to a stranger. My teenage step-daughter would literally hide behind us a couple years ago or make her brothers order for her. Yesterday she was so proud because she called a help desk herself for login assistance for an online account. She's 17 and is afraid of people. School? Online. Talk to friends? Text or social media. We're failing our kids. I'm trying to do better. We need to better prepare our kids for the real world. They're not learning basic skills that are critical in maintaining a job.2 points

It seems the issues have less to do with changing their ways and more to do with the employees not wanting to work as they are asked to do.1 point

Hear me out. Win the next two home games and have a big home game against a maybe ranked Tulane. Everybody is excited because we have a chance to pick up a huge win and really be contenders. Lose to Tulane by 30 points in a game that was never close. Start up the fire Morris threads once again. Repeat. Would love to see a different result but I still remember a trip to Lubbock that is overlooked on this website's short-term memory.1 point

Stop losing. Just go undefeated. I don't know why we bother with the losses! People would come. People would be proud.1 point

Interesting debate (I guess) not sure how this took a dive into “beating kids” but this is gomeangreen However what I took out of this article was more of a problem with colleges…..from the point of view of companies that are supposed to be using them to bring in talent. Seems they’re not providing suitable employees for corporations. To the point where these companies just can’t do anything with them so they’re firing them. If this trend continues or gets worse….what does that do the value of a degree? Going back up stream: if it truly is a problem with the kids themselves, seems companies are starting to weed out the poor performers so do colleges start increasing their standards, holding students accountable? Teaching them what it takes to succeed? Or will they just keep taking in all that money and building the nice buildings while churning out an unsatisfactory product. Are they going to develop these kids so they’re providing suitable employees for the companies that want their “talent?” This trend seems unsustainable…..1 point

People call the cops on quite literally everything and anything. It's ridiculous. As you said, the things we did ourselves are no longer allowed, usually via parent rules. As a parent I think we get in our own head because of the horror stories we read about or hear about in the news. Those stories are news worthy because they're rare. Every day things aren't newsworthy no matter how bad the event. I again blame us parents. We let my stepson go fishing at a nearby pond alone. He's been going for a couple years now. He's responsible so we trust him to go alone. I went places alone as a kid growing up in Dallas. Not far but still alone with no phone. It is what it is. I just hope us adults can come to the understanding that we need to let our kids be put in uncomfortable situations and work their way through it. They deserve to be built up in to strong adults. It's our job to do that, though. The long game is that society needs us to actually do that job that we signed up for when we became parents.1 point
