Trent Dilfer was a horrible hire. His team lost to Tulane by 51 today. They're 1-4. No one was at the game. When Bill Clark quit in June 2022....Bryant Vincent was named interim HC. He lead the team to a 6-6 record, and a win in the Bahamas Bowl. (they finished 7-6). Players wanted Vincent kept as the HC....but the university went ahead and hired Trent Dilfer (former NFL QB)....but who had only been a HC in high school. Anyway.....that same Bryant Vincent was hired by ULM. They're 3-1 this year....and are leading James Madison at the half tonight.15 points

I am amazed at how many of our fans act like jilted lovers, relishing the struggles of a kid who came here and balled out for this university. Many act like he was the second coming of Andrew McNulty who dared to think he could succeed elsewhere. We are 4-1, have a VERY good chance of getting back to a bowl and appear to have a defense with a pulse. We already got the pretty girl…quit stalking our ex’s Instagram.9 points

I stopped caring about how Chandler Rogers was doing when I saw what Chandler Morris could do. Eric's son has been the AAC offensive player of the week twice already this season.7 points

Maybe they need to shut down their program every 10 years and spend a couple of years loading up with a bunch of 25 year olds?5 points

Haven’t seen this mentioned, but once again…… We started the season out pretty well. Got some local and national attention, to the point we were a trendy pick. “Tech better watch out!” Reece Davis on ESPN Game Day picked us as his “superdog”. We were starting to turn a corner regarding perception. And not only do we get beat, we got absolutely destroyed on national TV. Outclassed, out coached, out played and embarrassed. We were taking a few steps forward only to get hit in the face ONCE AGAIN and get launched back to what many think is our rightful place. How many people paying attention to our game vs TTech didn’t even bother to look at the schedule to see our next games much less make plans to show up. This probably happened about halfway through the 2nd quarter of that game. We are in a situation where we have no room for error. When you’re in this situation, no amount of marketing can overcome getting embarrassed like we were in Lubbock. We had our chance. Blew it. so this comment from the article: “He’s held up his end of the bargain.” depends on the lens we use and the standard we apply. if we use the standard of “holy crap it’s a miracle we’re 4-1 and we never do this” then Yes, he’s held up his end of the bargain. And yes. This start is the exception not the norm. But if we want the casual fans to show up, that standard won’t work. So if we use the standard of “we need to be ranked or pushing the top 25 and knocking on the door of the playoff. Getting national attention getting national credibility” which WILL get the casual fan to show up, then Eric Morris’s performance in Lubbock means he did NOT hold up his end of the bargain. The coach at UNT, whoever it is, cannot have it both ways.5 points

It did last!! Diego Pavia did it! I remember posting about him when he entered the portal and some here didn't want him. The kid is a gamer.4 points

The better sign to UNT admins related to this group would be “Quit hiring outside talent when you have dedicated degreed alums on staff who would crush this leadership role”. Grass is NEVER greener (pun intended) outside the UNT family for these roles. It’s a passion business. All our experienced and highly regarded alums that worked there and/or in tangentially related UNT Advancement roles have been poached away by other institutions (SMU, Colorado, OK State, Sam Houston, A&M Commerce, amongst others) or left for private sector roles that compensate appropriately because of being passed over for external hires (minus the smart KFra hire) time and time again.4 points

In both polls......they'd be the 28th and 29th teams ... (Also Tulane getting two votes in the coaches' poll) https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings3 points

Actually the question is ‘Where are the students?’ Most fans sit on the west side. When I looked around it was 3/4 full and the lower section of the north end zone was 3/4 full. Student section was less than half full. There was also a large Tulsa following on the east side. DATCU is loud when the students show up. Hell, I come even when we’re bad. Don’t understand why the students don’t show up when we are playing well.3 points

I called up @Aldo and told him that we had to improve our sound if we want to stay in the race for best podcast. All of our goals are in front of us. https://open.substack.com/pub/meangreennation/p/229-bye-week-podcast?r=du4qo&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true2 points

I hope he's working on a resume for his life after football. It will probably make it harder to get drafted riding the bench.2 points

I went to the coaches show with Mac & SL. Mac was a master, he would work the room, shaking everyone's hand. SL would usually just stand to the side. If he talked to anyone,it would be to the regulars on the front table. Haven't been since Morris took over. If he's skipping out early, seems like a violation of his contract.2 points

I’m not going to hate on the kid. He made a move that he thought was in his best interest and it turned out to be a poor football decision. Hopefully he learns from it. I’m not going to wish failure on a 22 year old because he doesn’t play for my team anymore.2 points

No, especially since we know the NCAA is getting dozens of calls from players who were promised one amount and then given something else. AND players CANNOT sign an NIL agreement UNTIL after they enroll!2 points

Yep. He landed at the worst SEC program that won zero conference games last year, hadn't beat Alabama in 40 years, and was 0-60 against top 5 opponents in their history dating back to the beginning of the poll era in 1936. You have to respect the grit.2 points

From a game story earlier this year (D-RC): Senior athlete Tyler Brown also did what he does in the passing game. The 2024 Class 4A 200-meter dash state champion showed off his elite speed time and again as he hauled in three passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns, scoring from 51, 85 and 30 yards out. “He’s just different,” Aubrey head coach Keith Ivy said of Brown. “What an amazing competitor he is. Very humble young man, and he’s very exciting to watch.” Burn, baby, burn.2 points

Those band parents SHOW UP which is why expanding the Green Brigade is one of the smartest things our school has done. I bet for every band kid, you average atleast two additional people (family members or student friends) who attend the game. Which is why I think we should add a Kilgore Rangerette style drill team. Add 100 drill teamers and you’d probably get 300 extra parents and boyfriends at every game. That is 400 extra people in the stands EVERY game.2 points

So you are complaining that we're not as obsessed with UH football as you are with North Texas football?2 points

My friend, winning consistently is the answer. Winning cures all. The math doesn't make sense if you spend $500K+ to spread the word for one football game. That's madness. Single game promotions (what you're describing) are done by the TV networks to generate buzz and increase viewership so they can in-turn generate more ad sales revenue during the game. Universities don't promote single-games for a reason and it boils down to money and ROI. When universities do advertise on TV it's always to promote the entire university because new 4-year student tuitions do generate a positive ROI. Single game advertising does not.2 points

As someone who makes commercials for a living and has worked with ad agencies and media buyers, what you're proposing will cost BIG money, not just "some money." Especially during a Presidential election year where TV airtime comes at a premium. For a marketing campaign to work you need both reach and frequency. The DFW metro is the #5 DMA in the country so you're going to spend boat-loads of cash to reach the DFW metroplex. Next is frequency. In order to make an impact in the minds of viewers, this ad would need to run multiple times, not just once. So now take the reach costs and multiply it by the frequency costs and you're looking at one helluva investment (mid six-figures) for a single FAU game. Unfortunately the math doesn't make sense because the ROI isn't there.2 points

Is Tulsa a "third tier" opponent? We had a better crowd for the SFA game. Outside of being the first game of the year, I would expect Tulsa to be the bigger draw.2 points
