Next week's game vs Wyoming is huge if we want to make an impression on the new PAC. We need to learn from this embarrassing loss and then flush it from our memory fast. We can beat a MWC team next week and be 3-1. I believe.13 points

We are not a “real” D1 program. We just got skull drug by Texas Tech…not Alabama, not Oregon, not Clemson, we got beat down by a team that should have lost to Abilene Christian. Don’t let their performance against Caponi’s defense fool you, that is not some powerhouse we just lost to. Many of you think that NIL and the transfer portal have created a divide between the “big boys” and everyone else…we were well on the other side of that divide before NIL Memphis just put Florida State at 0-3…and, no, it doesn’t matter that Florida State is down right now, we would have lost to them by 30+ today. There is a reason people mention Memphis in realignment talks and not us. We may share a league, but we are not the same. It pains me to say all this, but nobody who isn’t on North Texas’ payroll could see things any differently.9 points

This is maybe the worst take I’ve seen on the board. Football revenue pays for the athletic department. Cut its budget and you’ll wind up hurting all sports…and then the basketball revenue, which is much smaller, has to pick up the slack. You’ll wind up cutting into basketball without realizing what you’re doing. What you really want is more money put into the total budget, with basketball getting a bigger share of that increase. Maybe recruit more basketball specific donors or income streams. Not at the expense of football, though. That would be counterproductive. We got absolutely embarrassed today. It was made worse because we got our hopes up after Tech struggled in their first two games. But we don’t play defense here anymore. So until that changes, adjust your expectations accordingly and keep your emotions in check. This crazy take of just dropping the sport is a bad look.8 points

Memphis, USF, and Tulane are full-share members of the AAC so they are hesitant to move without knowing more about the estimated TV deal and how much they can expect to make. However UNT, UTSA, RICE are only receiving 50% of the AAC TV media money until 2034. 10 years at half-share is a lot of lost revenue. The new PAC can offer new members full-share when the future media deal is established, as an incentive to leave the AAC.8 points

Great! We are at the point where we are having to find someone else who sucked as much as we did to try and help calm us down 🤣8 points

We are kinda past the point of no return when it comes to football investment bud. We reached that point the minute Apogee opened. The indoor practice facility only solidified that position.8 points

Yes, but Purdue is already in the Big 10 and can bring 62k when they're actually good. The problem is that UNT is trying to get to a power conference and therefore can't afford to be bad like Purdue can8 points

IMO, the AD fired Seth because 6-6 seasons with no signature wins, conference championships, or bowl wins were no longer acceptable. Therefore, the expectation for Morris is to consistently generate 7+ win seasons, win conference championships, have signature wins, and win bowl games. If he doesn’t meet that expectation, the AD needs to find a replacement who can. Otherwise, we fired Seth for no reason.8 points

From Ross Dellenger: https://sports.yahoo.com/after-latest-realignment-moves-which-other-schools-will-the-pac-12-try-to-scoop-up-182233033.html “The problem: We don’t really know its TV value, but those at the Pac-12 estimate it to be higher than the best Group of Five deal, which is the American, which distributes to its original members about $8-10 million annually. If the Pac-12 is at $10-12 million per school, is that worth a move across the country? What about $15 million? That latter figure seems high, but who knows.” So let’s do some math. AAC distributes $8-10 million per school annually however UNT/UTSA/Rice only make 50% share for the next decade. That’s a total of $40-50 million over the next 10 years. The new PAC media deal is estimated to be north of $10 million per year/per school. Could be as high as $15 million but let’s just call it $10 million for easy math. $10m over 10 years is $100 million in TV money. ($12m per year is $120 million and $15 million per year is $150 million) At minimum we’re talking $50-60 million more reasons to leave the AAC for the PAC.6 points

I was at the Arkansas game today for Parents Weekend. And I will tell you that our game presentation at North Texas, all the bells and whistles, is identical to what you will find in the SEC: the video boards, the fireworks, the flamethrowers, cheerleaders, dance team. Heck, our band is even bigger than most SEC bands. Our tailgating for the season-opener with all the Greeks and food and live music was SEC quality too. Our stadium is a little smaller but the facilities at North Texas are built to win. The student section and crowd for the opener did their part. We are certainly handicapped on NIL, but if you are smart, you can still find a way to acquire undervalued assets. At this point in time, this University deserves a winning football team. Yesterday was an embarrassment, but the sun came up this morning and we might have our first sellout this week.6 points

If FL fires Napier, I'd be happy taking him off their hands... for the same reasons I was on board with Fuente, and Brown (who wound up not being fired). Even though they're struggling at the P5 level, they showed they could succeed (bowl wins, conf championships, top25 rankings, etc...) at the G5 level.6 points

I mean the fanbase wasn’t really onboard with this hire to begin with. What are we expecting reaction wise? People are pissed and they should be.6 points

Wow. Thanks for resurrecting @jtm0097. This was a fun read. I was spitting fire. My only miss was that Deion was going to be a home run hire for Auburn or any other P5. The wheels are wobbling at CO, and once Sheduer and Travis Hunter leave... they'll likely come off. Congrats to all of those guys who were wanting Morris (hope this is what you wanted), and poo-poo'ing Barry Odom & GJ Kinne (y'all have been proven wrong). The guy who was bantered around on here more than anyone (and the guy I was championing along with Odom), is still somewhat available. Oh, and by the way, the team he's an "analyst" for, just curb-stomped UCLA today, to put them at 3-0 (with a combined score of 150-23). Coulda, shoulda, woulda, I guess.6 points

Building a strong basketball conference is essential for the new PAC with March Madness tournament money and additional TV deals on the line. Our NIT Championship should be on page one of the pitch.6 points
-
Same as everyone else. - The 2 9-win seasons - Beating Arkansas - Going to Bowl Games - Playing in conference championships - Mason Fine - The talk about our Headcoach getting hired away - Our OC actually getting hired away I will take that over this. Keep the receipts. If we win a bowl game, maybe I'll prefer this. At this point, At best, Morris may be the same. What I miss the most was how the coaching search that got us Seth Littrell was conducted. It looked like UNT actually knew what they were doing.6 points

Beat Wyoming to finish 3-1 in OOC play. We would have all signed up for that a month ago. No matter how bad the 1 loss was.5 points

Yes the AAC will need to come up with something. I wonder if they can bump the money UTSA, UNT, and Rice are getting to 80% or 90%. Even then, we know the next deal will be smaller than the current one. We also know Memphis, Tulane, and USF will be frontrunners to join the ACC when that blows up. If we're offered the PAC, I view it like being offered a life raft. If Memphis, Tulane, and USF leave what's left is CUSA schools plus Navy, Tulsa, Temple, ECU, and Army. Now who thinks that list is better than the new PAC?5 points
-
C Rod has covered the starter math. That's reason number 1. Reason number 2 is once the next AAC deal is signed without Cincy, UCF, and Houston it'll be a fraction of the current deal which means our 50% of AAC money becomes even smaller. Reason number 3 is the new PAC already has 3 programs who've been NCAA tournament regulars for a few years now. Should they continue their basketball success in the new PAC, that's more NCAA tournament credits flowing in which means more money than the AAC which is a 2-bid conference at best right now. That means the difference AAC vs PAC money becomes even greater. Reason number 4 is the PAC name, even in the new form, holds more weight than the AAC. Adding the top MWC programs and some of the top AAC programs will separate it from the MWC and AAC and create a clear gap in prestige. Something else to consider about Tulane, Memphis, and South Florida is they're a better geographical fit for the ACC and that looks to be imploding soon. With our location, we're not further from the ACC than we are the PAC. The PAC is the best available conference and they have openings. We need to latch on to the best opportunities we can or we'll keep finding ourselves on the outside looking in.5 points
-
If the PAC wants to get laughed at and not be looked at seriously, they’ll add us and some Texas spares that don’t move the needle at all nationally, including UTSA, Texas State, UTEP, or Rice. They need to get the best of the west and leave it there. We have as good of a setup as North Texas has ever been allowed to have, except for SMU not being in the same conference. The PAC with OSU, WSU, Fresno, SDSU, Boise, and CSU is a solid start, but adding in UNLV, Nevada, AFA, and Utah State would be pretty smart, and getting Gonzaga and St. Mary’s into the league for hoops would be a great league.5 points

We can keep dumping money into football, but nothing will change. I would rather be a top 30 program in basketball than keep doing what we have done the last 50 years in football.5 points

I expect the PAC to cover the $10m AAC exit fee just like they’ve agreed to do with the 4 MWC schools. PAC is flush with exit fee cash from former conference members.5 points

Well the first game he did the coin toss and lead the band, can he coach a defense?5 points
-
Nope don't you know we don't have to do that at UNT. We really large school in the heart of a recruiting hotbed. We hire inexperienced coach give them cart blanche whether their assistant hires make sense or not. Or we hire coaches experienced with X & O but inexperienced at recruiting to a G5/FCS school in a major metro location like ours and let them operate like they are in Iowa or Florida. 😆5 points

No, but Caponi needs to go. But Eric needs to be hard on these guys and demand WAY more than what we saw today.5 points

Moaning and groaning about Morris is hanging in the weeds which is what is appropriate on a day like this. But I want to know what President Keller wants. Do we know what kind of athletic department he wants and believes is worthy for UNT? I may have missed it but I don’t know and I hope it is world class. I believe and want UNT to be competing with peers that are Houston, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State…that is where I want my university to aim. What does he believe and want? Because he can hold Jared and Eric’s work accountable. my personal observations are that the football program shows development. Good on Eric. He needs to present a plan to seek out a first class DC who executes his desired style of D. Who is it and how much will it cost. Jared. Ive seen improvement in the Gameday experience. He needs to ignite the community more. Relationship building tactics planned. Community outreach efforts planned. Alumni engagement practices planned. Who oversees the NT Alumni what is the chain there? This weekend was a fail. I got meetup information late and location of the tailgate late. If this was on me and no one else had problems I’ll walk this back. But what about the Friday get together event? A rally of sorts. The breakfast party before the game. We tried sharing info at the hotel about the tailgate but didn’t have clear details. To me this was a missed opportunity on a major away game. President Keller that’s not world class. I won’t think UNT is not worthy or ever been deserving of this level of expectation. I’m looking to the future and what I want for my university. What does President Keller want. I hope it’s lofty. We are what the third or fourth largest university in Texas, we should be playing equal to our peers. We should not tolerate letting schools down south play above us in league. President Keller you’re up I can’t wait to support you and learn more. GMG4 points

They wouldn't offer just UNT only. My guess is they will make a play for a small AAC grouping = 4 schools (like Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and UNT). Connect the 4 with Colorado State, get Texas markets and recruiting, plus AAC power schools. Wound both the MWC and AAC to seek the top G5 Conference spot.4 points

Seth was 7-6, playing for a conference championship against a ranked team in his last season. I'd take that, too. So it looks like the bar is/was better than 7+ wins. Smatresk, instead of walking back an ultimatum because the arrow looked to be pointed up again, decided to make good on his word. At the end of that season - with Phil Bennett as our DC, you could not have convinced me there was anyone available who was a better coach for this job, at that point in time, than Seth. So here we go - Ready to take the big step of acting like a big-boy program and firing a coach in a winning season for not winning a conference championship. I was so hopeful UNT knew the guy they wanted, because big-boy programs do not get rid of upward arrow coaches unless they have something worked out already... Only to be let down by announcing they are "conducting a national search". Uh-oh. They didn't think about the next big boy step... and the one after that... So here we are. Playing out the "anyone-but-Seth" lottery. Someone here who is optimistic/happy with the way things are going, please tell me how Morris is going to end this season better than Seth's last season. Because I need a pick-me-up and something to look forward to.4 points

7-5 or better and a Bowl win. Otherwise, why bother firing Seth?4 points

The AAC requires a 27 month notice with a $10 million exit fee. Anyone think we have the money to move to the PAC 6? Also the PAC 6 doesn't have a media rights contract so you are betting on a come.4 points

Texas State and UTSA would love us to drop football. More recruits for them. Smu and TCU would love us to drop football. Cede the region to them and more recruits. How about clean house and build it right? AIM higher. GMG4 points

Pretty sure he didn't even have a logo'ed shirt on this morning at the tailgate in Lubbock. I get you want to wear a button up and look sharp, but they sell button ups with a UNT logo on them. Hell, the Mayor of Denton was at the tailgate in a bright green UNT polo. The Prez looked like he might be with the catering team. We're supposed to go to the reception for him tonight, I'll ask him what he thinks of our performance. 😂4 points

This is the last that I will say on this topic. After that, I will remain quiet and if the moderators want to move it to a different area, I understand. For the three people who did not like my comment and want to be victims or encourage other Black people to be victims, go ahead. I refuse to be a victim and believe that all white people are bad when I know better. When I was in combat, white people watched my back like I watched theirs because we were American and color had nothing to do with it. This country is not as racist as you think it is. I don't like to go off on a tangent, but I have yet to meet a racist Mean Green fan in all of my 40 plus years of rooting for the Mean Green.4 points

There’s a reason that we can’t sell out a 30k stadium in the middle of Football Country with an enrollment of over 40k and local alumni over 300k. People don’t want to be associated with losers and apathy. And that’s our history for the last 45 years.4 points
