This makes me so happy. UNT athletics is on the right track for this game. Concentrate on Denton County and you have a heck of a fan base.12 points

Yeah I hated watching Cobbs, Jamario, back to back rushing champs, Quinn, Booger, Spencer, Awasom, Buckles, top 10 defense, hardly ever losing a conference game, that New Orleans Bowl win, blowing out Baylor at home, the NMSU game at Fouts, miracle in the desert, etc. too..... That helmet brings back horrible memories11 points

DENTON, Texas – UNT Athletics Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley has announced the department’s push to #SelloutDATCU for the Mean Green’s next home game on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 6 pm against Wyoming. With less than 10 days until kickoff, the Mean Green have already sold more than 20,000 tickets. Capacity at DATCU Stadium is 30,100. As part of the effort, Denton-based Peterbilt Motor Co. has purchased 2,000 tickets to distribute to employees. The game will also be a centerpiece event for UNT’s annual family weekend and will serve as the department’s yearly DATCU Day – celebrating the long-term partnership with the local credit union. “We are looking forward to being back at home for the Wyoming game in two weeks and all the events surrounding that day,” Mosley said. “It has been exciting to see the Denton community mobilize and get behind this effort to record our first-ever sellout of DATCU Stadium. We are especially thankful to local leaders like Peterbilt and DATCU others for the support in our goals.” Fans can visit SelloutDATCU.com for up-to-date numbers of tickets sold as the push for a capacity crowd continues. A crowd of 23,510 Mean Green fans were in attendance for the season-opening win over Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 7, including more than 6,400 students. The game will be a Green Out for all fans in attendance. Additionally, special rewards and giveaways will be released to UNT students as ticket claim thresholds are reached starting at 1,000 and culminating with a new record over 9,000. Local ISD Education Foundation partnerships with Denton, Sanger and Lewisville have been implemented with a portion of ticket proceeds purchased by these groups being donated back to support local students. Reunions scheduled for the weekend include a celebration of UNT’s 1994 and 2004 championship teams, including a visit from hall of fame former head coach Darrell Dickey, as well as a gathering of patrons at former Denton favorite, State Club. UNT spirit teams are also hosting Junior Mean Green Day. Tickets for the Wyoming game and the rest of the 2024 season and still available for purchase. Fans interested in purchasing single-game tickets or mini-plan packages for the 2024 season may do so online at www.meangreentickets.com or by calling the North Texas Athletics Ticket Office at (940) 565-2527 during normal business hours. https://meangreensports.com/news/2024/9/12/football-its-time-to-selloutdatcu --GMG--10 points

OU had a big win over a down Houston program last week by a score of 16-12. Seth Littrell's offense produced 174 yards of passing and 74 total rushing. On a positive note, Littrell has really improved the team CULTURE. And, ar least Sooner fans have his animated and detailed press conferences to look forward to!8 points

While many on this board laugh at SMU for giving up revenue to join the ACC, they're playing the long game and I think it'll work out well for them in the end. I don't think they'll end up in their dream scenario, but I do think the move to the ACC—however short or long that ends up being—will pay dividends. A similar notion would be true for UNT, and this potential (and highly skeptical) move to the PAC. Hear me out... I think it's inevitable that the SEC and BIG10 will eventually do one more round of expansion, partner, and become the equivalent of the "pro college league." That league will be the #1 dog, no questions asked. After that, it'll be a mad scramble for all the other Division 1 schools and conferences to figure out what to make of themselves. Additional realignment and consolidation will happen at that time. The conferences involved in the mad scramble will be the ACC, BIG12, American, PAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt, MAC, and Conference USA. And just as conference realignment has worked thus far, you want to be as high up the pecking order as possible to get the next call "up." If there's a high likelihood that the reformed PAC will successfully establish itself as being better than the American and Mountain West (and I think they'll do that if they select the best of the MWC and great media markets from the American), then UNT should strive to get an invite and make it happen. It may be a 2-year home or a 10-year home, but at some point, additional shifts will happen, and the higher up we are in the pecking order, the better. Personally, I think the American group that @NT80 suggested is spot on and would make it a compelling conference: WEST Washington State Oregon State Boise State San Diego State Fresno EAST Colorado State North Texas UTSA Memphis Tulane There's much less fluff in this conference, reasonable travel within the regional pods, some solid media markets, and competitive football and basketball. Go Mean Green!6 points

Where do I sign? This makes a lot of sense. Memphis is a brand, Tulane an AAU school, and UNT & UTSA establish a strong foothold in major Texas markets with a growing rivalry. If there was ever a season for us to get hot and put together a winning streak, this is it. We have to seize the moment.6 points

Remaining MWC schools, in the event that the American wants to grab some -Air Force (consolidate all military academies?, sounds pretty GD American to me) -Nevada -UNLV -New Mexico -San Jose State -Utah State -Wyoming -Hawaii (football only) If I were the commissioner, i would take long looks at AFA, UNLV, Utah St. and Wyoming. I'm not saying we should definitely go after these school, i just think we should investigate the possibility6 points

I would like to see a bigger partnership from Peterbilt. We've got a Mean Green firetruck, let's put a Mean Green big rig where that oversized patio chair is to replace the "best seats in the house." Lucky fans each game get to blare the horn after every UNT score.5 points

Must we micro analyze everything? We’re honoring a team that won 4 conference titles by wearing a helmet with the decal they had. That’s it. Just enjoy the 1 week throwback.5 points

A win at Tech would go a long way to ensure this sellout happens!5 points

I think there has always been some unreasonable mojo that North Texas holds over Tech. I’m not sayin’. I’m just sayin’. NT 29-24. Thanks Scott Davis.5 points

I can’t believe that my time in college is now considered a “throwback.” That’s not possible. I’m not that old. 😂 Weirdly… I kinda like it. However, I hope it only comes out for this game and then goes away for a very long time again.5 points

Can we play like back then too? Although, it will be a non-conference game, so it may not be a good idea....5 points

Agreed. It seems like we have lots of fans who want others to fail....more than they want UNT to succeed. Since we left the SBC....they've had lots of ranked teams. Lots of huge wins....Marshall beat Notre Dame, Appy State beat Texas A & M, ULL beat Kansas State....all games on the road for the SBC team. So far this year....the AAC has done nothing special. Tulane hosts Kansas State and can't get the win. I think we have five 2-0 teams.....and only one has an upset win (us beating USA). So I don't knock teams in other leagues....for doing what we fail to do. Hopefully that will change soon....and we (and our league) will start knocking off some name opponents. (I know Tulane beat USC in the bowl....the Year before we got in the league).4 points

It's funny... I was in undergrad during the Big West daffy eagle/script crossover days, and while I loved loved loved the memories and the turnaround, I thought the script helmets were so awful... we didn't use that font anywhere else, it looked cheap, felt just thrown together with no thought or branding... I cheered for those helmets with everything I had, but I found the script borderline embarrassing. Now? As times and looks have changed, and more than a dash of nostalgia has been sprinkled in? I think they might be kinda awesome??? Looking forward to this!4 points

You're thinking too small... what if we put a Mean Green/Peterbilt production facility inside DATCU? one lucky fan gets employed for the 3rd and 4th quarter!4 points

Sheesh, if everyone ends up in 3 conferences of 25 teams at some point then what's even the advantage? I bet in 5-10 years time we'll see them all break up again. I'm going to blame A&M for all of this, this all started when they went to the SEC.4 points

I hope we sell out Wyoming. Army is also a sellout opportunity if the season breaks a certain way.4 points

I prefer that entrance and hype song to what they roll out now. Factor in DJ ADHD to the ear orgy we had last week, and the presentation is fv<king brutal.4 points

Why would Cal and Stanford take something like an 80% revenue cut to go to a non-P4 league. That's bananas.4 points

The reaching out and connection to Peterbilt is a nice move, it shows effort by the AD to get more involved with local businesses.4 points

Yeah I've missed thunderstruck for a long time, great hype song for football.4 points

Not for a UNT invite to PAC2...but you gotta look at the TV/recruiting area. DFW would be a nice grab for the New PAC8.4 points

I hope they lose. Go look at their remaining schedule. Could very easily win out and take the G5 spot from MWC or American.4 points

This. I see people looking back at that time fondly, but the reality is the Sunbelt was extremely weak, anytime UNT stepped out of conference they got their butts kicked. We were a big fish in a small pond. I know people won't like it, but it's the truth.4 points

Can we please stop obsessing over SMU? We aren’t even conference mates after the single season we spent with them and we won’t be playing them anytime in the foreseeable future. They mean absolutely nothing to us as a program. Why oh why does their name continuously come up on this site??4 points
