Here is the irony of this "nostalgia"? The NT administration NEVER wanted that name (NTSU). In 1960 when we achieved University status it necessitated a name change. The FIRST choice of the administration was UNT. A bill was drawn up and we got a representative from (I think) Mineral Wells to file it. Everything went fine with the representatives, but when it got to the Senate it hit a wall. Several senators (no doubt UT grads) threatened to filibuster the bill if it proceeded as written. A compromise was worked out and because "University" had to be in our name, NTSU was agreed upon. We had to go back three other times to try and change it to UNT, and the third time was finally successful.......but just barely. Gov. Clements (an SMU grad) signed the bill and here we are, being nostalgic for NTSU.7 points

So, Morris hasn't even been to a bowl game and we have to deal with these rumors already ? I used to think it was difficult being a G5 school when it came to losing coaches to larger programs. Now, it's not only coaches but players every year. We can't have anything good anymore. I don't know why I torture myself like this every year. Next we are going to lose our cheerleaders, then the cannon. I guess after that we can always construct a new cannon out of wood like UTSA.6 points

“North Texas” has and will always be part of our name. There is nothing small-time about North Texas. It represents a very big area. No one questions the name “Southern California” either. The Flying Worm is unique and special just like the name Mean Green. The University of North Texas Mean Green with the Flying Worm logo sets us apart and is easily identifiable. It is a strong brand.5 points

What I’ve learned is there isn’t a fan site similar to GOMEANGREEN.com. We are very fortunate. Thank you Harry and moderators.4 points

I love the idea of bringing the worm back. I'm not a huge fan of the winged helmets. They look too much like Oregon. But, I'm against returning to NTSU. The more letters in your abbreviation, the more small time you look. Remember the SCLSU Mud Dogs?4 points

UPDATE 9/9: According to the athletics website, tickets are no longer on sale/available in our allotted sections for the Tech game - so those who worry my efforts hurt our ticket office's sales can rest easy! Meanwhile, my TTU sales rep has informed me that they typically do not sell group tickets the day before the game - so if you're still needing tickets and want to guarantee sitting with other UNT fans, get your requests in by Thursday at 3 p.m. Our group is up to 57!4 points

When Hayden Fry was still here, he is said to have mentioned talking to Woody Hayes on the phone about scheduling a future game. Woody commented that NT might get more gigs if they sounded more big time. His main example was for us to change our name to Texas State.4 points

Seems at one time before UNT ....Texas State University came up.. Before SWTSU became TSU.4 points

Sure, Jan. Here's an article to recap the Owls double overtime victory last year, in case you'd like to review it: https://news.rice.edu/news/2023/owls-capture-bayou-bucket-after-captivating-overtime-shootout3 points

The absolute loudest UNT sporting event I've ever been to. The "North! Texas!" chant video from that game pops up from time to time and its incredible. Multiple times Mason Fine tried to get people quiet but the crowd kept getting louder instead. I'm literally begging for our guys to bring home a W from Lubbock because that Wyoming game has all the making for a repeat of this.3 points

I just have three things to say: 1) God bless our troops, 2) God bless America, and 3)...... Go Rice Owls!3 points

Your memory is off. UT didn't want us being known as the University of North Texas.3 points

We just need consistency at this point. Name, logo, and dare I say color. I think we need to shelve any throwbacks for all but maybe Homecoming each year. We struggle enough with branding and identity that I think we should make anything that’s not the current branding EXTREMELY limited. Edit to add: Anything with “Texas State” in the name should not even be on the radar, in my opinion. Once SWT became Texas State, I think we should have left NTSU in the past.3 points

I love the Stone Cold celebration. They should play it live on the video board with Austin's theme music playing in the background. Then after it's finished cut to a recorded video of Stone Cold in a Mean Green jersey saying, "Open a can Mean Green!"3 points

I would think we need to get to the point where we are really sad to see Morris go. I’m not so sure we’re there yet….3 points

Not being sarcastic, but I don't know how any win can be ugly. Maybe there was lots of "adversity" during the game that you had to overcome, and deal with, or overcome.....and that includes yourself. Hell, the shape of the ball itself is one big built-in bundle of "adversity". But in dealing with it, you learn.....or should learn. In the early stages of the game Saturday I was reminded of a very good quote from Rockey 1. Apollo Creed is in the corner with his trainer and had just endured a pretty rough round. His trainer gave him a reality check. Apollo's Trainer: He doesn't know it's a damn show! He thinks it's a damn fight!3 points

Early in my coaching career, I went home upset because we won ugly in week 2. We lost the next 7 games. I learned then to appreciate any win, even the ugly ones. It is hard to win. Those kids on the other side are on scholarship too. Those coaches aren't stupid. Enjoy every win. Ugly wins are still wins.3 points

Yep, that's the problem with e-tickets that nobody wants to admit. "Geez, my phone isn't loading the tickets!" "Wait, how do I pull them up again?". "Hang on, my grampa is having problems with the tickets". Paper tickets? Beep, beep, beep, beep. Lines keep moving quickly. Just cuz it's cool technology doesn't mean its automatically more efficient.2 points
