https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2024/09/01/ten-things-we-learned-from-week-one-2024?ref=article_preview_title 10. All of a sudden, North Texas at Texas Tech is Week Three is interesting This game originally was written off as blowout potential due to Texas Tech running back Tahj Brook's dominance against a weak North Texas rush defense. But if Abilene Christian diced up the Red Raiders secondary, what could North Texas head coach Eric Morris scheme up for new quarterback Chandler Morris? Chandler threw for 415 yards and had five total touchdowns in his Mean Green debut.8 points

Wouldn't that be hilarious. TCU and us at Ford Field. We could screw that place up royally.6 points

If we're going to go into a comparison of Rogers vs Morris, one thing that stood out to me from both TCU film and our first game was Morris seemed to understand the offense better. He got through his reads quicker and he took the checkdowns and what the defense gave him. Morris also got the ball out a lot quicker which limited sacks (did he even get sacked Saturday?) In contrast, Rogers held on to the ball a long time last year, at times refusing to take the checkdown. I don't know if he was going through his reads or if the line play was so bad he felt like he had to move out of the pocket a lot to find the open man, but he seemed to have less command of the play itself (not the offense, but the play). That said, he was a baller and found a way which I really liked about him. But I think that's why (as others have said) Stone got the starting job last year at first. In practice, Stone was going through his progressions like the system dictates and I suspect that is why Rogers didn't get the starting job at Cal. He's one of those QBs that when the game lights come on, they find a way forward. No panic and all poise on field. And I think that's what's most similar between Rogers and Morris. The poise on field, no panic, and having a commanding presence on the field. I also think year 2 of Rogers in this system may have yielded similar results to what we saw from Morris on Saturday. But we'll never know now.5 points

On a one game grade, Morris looks to be an upgrade. Rogers was great. Morris will have to show consistency and stay healthy, but it is possible that both are true…Rogers was a great QB for us, but Morris may be even better. Great problem to have.5 points

Holy Cow - The weather is looking good. NOAA has this: Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 66. More to come on the Menu!4 points

In today's transfer environment, I would play any freshman that can contribute. Do not worry about red-shirting.4 points

The Power Teams shouldn't be playing FCS teams--they can play G5s and let the G5s play FCS in OOC play.4 points

I’m curious to see how TT plays this week. Regardless, our game with them could potentially be a matchup of 2-0 Texas teams. Should be a good game!4 points

The truth is that the North Texas offense under Eric Morris is a great opportunity for players to put up big numbers. The offensive linemen are more scarce than the skill players. As long as Morris can keep the offensive line production high, we will have a great offense.4 points

I heard Georgia was giving up the "G" helmet because Grambling has it. Same for Michigan once they discovered the University of Delaware had it.4 points

We shouldn’t have let the game get away but SFA to me will always mean Maher to Silva. Thirty years ago 🤦🏻♂️4 points

Not gonna lie. If we only score 35 pts in this game after what we saw last weekend out of Morris and crew - I’m going to be very disappointed.4 points

Interesting that Adeyi, Maclin, Rogers all had quiet days vs seemingly soft competition. Helps strengthen the idea that we aren’t missing them to hard. To be clear, I would still love having Maclin and Adeyi back. I think we upgraded at QB though.4 points

Marcus Trice—that guy was an all around phenomenal student athlete here. Solid player, great leader, and someone you genuinely just wanted to support and see succeed. I hope he’s been doing well.3 points

Applewhite hasn't been at Houston since 2018... when he left with a 15-11 record... i hardly think he is the one to blame3 points

It's even better now by NOAA: Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 87. Northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 63. I hope this holds. It looks like a great day is shaping up.3 points

Internet short hand on my part. Read it as, "It's only one game in, but looks like we may have made..." Rogers put up nice number, but was 5-5 as a starter. With our defense last year, not his fault, but the QB tends to get more of the credit and more of the blame on team W-L records. His 29 TDs to 5 INTs was great on 62.2% completions, but he was also sacked 33 times in those 10 games. Porous line or did he hold on to the ball too long trying to make a play? Rogers was very good in his one season here, but Morris may be even better. As @TIgreen01 said, both can be true and good for us. On Saturday, Morris went 32 for 41 (78% completion rate) for 415 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. No sacks and ran for 2 more TDs. Close to flawless and not much more you can ask for from your QB. By my untrained eye, he seemed to go through his reads/progressions quickly and had command of the offense from the first snap. Does it keep up for the season? Who knows? Maybe we're better all around and South Alabama really wasn't a 6 or 7 point favorite and it all showed up in the QB stats.3 points

He could but I won’t say a major upgrade after 1 game. If Rogers would have returned and had another year like his only year he would have been UNT quality Hall of Fall worthy. Rogers was tough, gritty, accurate and a greater running threat. I wish him success with Cal and hope to see Morris continue to shine as a Drew Brees clone.3 points

I'd be fully on board if the AAC brought in WSU and OSU, but I think asking them to come in on an "island" is a tough ask. I think it'd be more appealing for everyone involved if the AAC could work a deal where WSU and OSU joined along with Air Force to round out the military academies and Boise State to make a northwest pod for a total of 18 total football teams. One game in, but we made a major upgrade at the QB position. Stupid accuracy with a quick release. We need him to stay healthy all season.3 points

This is very interesting with these 2. They seem lukewarm to the MWC teams and really haven’t gained steamed with the 12. It’s early but if the AAC continues to perform they could potentially be lured. We play in and near the markets their brethren went to. Strengthen the AAC. GMG3 points

This should be our preseason stomping. We need to play with intensity and give the freshmen a show. We can’t afford a slip up like Charlotte and Rice3 points

Went on the road to start the season with 70+ new players and brought home a W. That’s big time.3 points

I know some on this board have always resisted calling UTSA a “rival” but I think everything you need is there. - Share a league and play annually (yep) - Close enough proximity to make games accessible for fans (yep) - Play games that have meaning (yep, often) - Genuine desire to beat them in, literally, everything (yep) - Feeling that we are just plain better than them as people and as a university (yep)3 points

I think it's great that our team honors Scout Team Players Of The Week. Had never seen this before. And I dig the name Kade Sink.2 points

We didn’t have a turnover, and I am not sure that has been emphasized enough. In that note, our one takeaway was on ST and not defense - and I think mostly their punter messing up. On a related note, our offense only score 45, not 52. But that should be enough to win games if the defense has a pulse. on another related note, our returners looked like they could be a weapon for us this year.2 points
