  1. Best compliment from the South Alabama fan forum: Tiguar Posted on 116 mins, , User Since 142 months ago, User Post Count: 6601 116 mins 142 months 6601 "North Texas should have over 60 points. They had two touchdowns taken off the board because their wide-open dude slipped. If UNTs high powered offense is just so good that every team that plays them has to score 50+ to win, I’m excited to see them in the playoffs this year."

  2. When we hired Coach (Spencer) Leftwich's son to be our O line coach......I was hoping for the best. If he was as good as his Dad.....that would be awesome. But, he was awfully young....and not very experienced. But man........what a debut. Without his best lineman (Gabe Blair)....and loses another great lineman (Jett Duncan) early in the game. We had a true freshman (Tyler Mercer) who played probably 90% of that game at center....y'day. So kudos to Coach Leftwich ....what a debut. https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/cutter-leftwich/826

  6. We’re going to scare some peeps with our offense for sure. Now our D needs some consistency for sure. But a win for the American is an awesome thing and even UTSA beating CUSA today was good for the league. Beat SFA GMG

  10. It's not good to ignore the 582 yards allowed but a good chunk of that came late when the score / deficit didn't change. The 150 yards rushing allowed is the most important stat to me. They are a good rushing team, and regularly put up 200+ yard games. Last year's USA would have run for 400+ against NT. The squad was down a couple of big contributors, came out and got some huge stops in the second half that helped set up the punt block, and the NT scores. That's what we asked for. We don't expect top-10 defense. We just want mid-table American defense and I think this squad can compete for a league title. 12. I know some on this board have always resisted calling UTSA a “rival” but I think everything you need is there. - Share a league and play annually (yep) - Close enough proximity to make games accessible for fans (yep) - Play games that have meaning (yep, often) - Genuine desire to beat them in, literally, everything (yep) - Feeling that we are just plain better than them as people and as a university (yep)

  16. I said before the game that this is game Morris had to win if we’re going to show progress. And he did. We were 6 point underdogs on The road and we beat them handily. I’ll give him credit for that. I wish I could feel like all the offense we gave up was ok because we outscored them and sometimes you do what you do to win and games go that way at times. But this defensive showing was par for the Morris course. With Chandler Morris at QB, this offense looks even better than last season’s. Defense looks exactly the same 1-0 good win hope the D gets better

  17. Morris had 9 incompletions to Lopez's 23 and ran for 2 TDs to Lopez's 1. I'd give our guy the edge on numbers overall.

  18. Especially Mercer on the o-line and WR Young! I was very impressed with their day one contributions. The future is bright! Congrats to the players, the coaches for the development, and to the recruiting department for identifying and bringing them in. It’s a good day for the good guys in Green.

  21. Went on the road to start the season with 70+ new players and brought home a W. That’s big time.

  23. The offense was impressive to watch today. Morris is so poised out there. Ward and the WR group was fun to watch. Defense managed a few key plays. Still concerned on that side of the ball. Happy with a big road W to start the year!

  24. Nothing to bitch about, but the defense is still worrisome.

  25. I think after next week there will be a lot more tempered optimism. SFA didn't play anyone that I have heard of this week, but they put up 77 points and most of that was through the air. Our DB's weren't in the same zip code as South Alabama's receivers on MULTIPLE plays...so I think you will see a lot of frustration from fans when watching this defense. I also was discouraged by how often our running backs were met at or behind the line of scrimmage. We can chalk it up to injuries on the o-line, but we should have got to get a lot better push up front. Teams will naturally start to try to take away the throwing lanes and dare us to prove we can run...I hope we can do that.

  27. I think Morris is better from what I saw today.

  28. Some want to dwell on the defense (understandably) but I’m wanting to focus on the offense. It was so efficient and effortless. No fluky plays. Just guys getting open and Morris putting the ball on a rope. To beat us, teams are going to have to go score for score. And they may be able to for stretches, but can they for the whole game? South Alabama couldn’t.

  29. Always tough playing any of the Alabama schools on the road. Great win for UNT.

  31. I don't remember him even having a bad snap. (and you saw how much players were sweating y'day....would have been really easy to have some). Dave and Hank commented on how bad (high) some of the snaps were for Lopez, the USA quarterback.

  32. You (and others) don’t seem to be giving any credit or blame to USA. We score 52 so our offense is awesome. We give up 38 so our defense is trash. Is it not possible that we scored 52 because USA’s defense is pathetic and gave up 38 because their offense is really good. The reality is somewhere in the middle of those extremes.

  33. This sounds like a Craigslist ad

  34. The negativity seeped in to me at halftime but I will remain positive until given a reason not to be. Morris is the real deal, we have multiple playmakers, defense be damned this is a bowl team at minimum. GMG!

  35. I mean I think the defense was solid relative to expectations. 582 is a lot of yards and USA moved it easily in the first. But in the context of the game they got stops, and forced the punt that allowed the block/TD. I simply have accepted the reality that this isn’t going to be a shut-down kind of defense and we’ll need to score to win. The defense did their job in that context and I am satisfied. Of course I do want improvement etc, but that’s a long-term recruiting, scheme evolution thing.

  36. I don’t disagree, but I don’t care if we give up 38 points a game as long we score 39. The reality is that with our fast paced offense, the opposing team will have the ball a lot. Plus, as mentioned, USA got quite a few yards when we were up and trying to keep the ball in front of us.

  38. 10 of 14 AAC teams won their opening games. Two losses to P4s, and then Charlotte and Rice lost to FBS schools.

  39. I will be nicer than many here about the defense. They still aren't good. But they are better than Game 1 last year. While they gave up a lot of yards, they had key stops. Three three-and-outs in the first four seconds half possessions after no stops in the first was huge. I wasn't optimistic trailing at half with USA getting the ball first. Also, we didn't give up too many big plays, and we didn't look embarrassingly bad too often like we did against Cal.

  42. Great point you can be happy that we won but realistic enough to understand that this defense is very bad

  43. I’m not one for hyperbole and the opponent isn’t great but this is at minimum top ten QB performance at NT in thirty years.
