  1. To Our Most Passionate Supporters, I hope everyone had a great summer. We finished up our eight-week summer training and I am thrilled with our progress. Our guys worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the court. Off the floor, they are meshing nicely as several new faces have arrived in Denton. We just started back with fall classes and can’t wait to get back to work. You will love this team. Thank you for your amazing support of UNT and our basketball program. Due to your generosity, we are able to compete on a national level in recruiting and on the court. Your contributions to our players Name Image and Likeness (NIL) initiatives and other specific giving initiatives are game changers for us. I would like to ask your support of a golf outing/NIL event our players are hosting on September 30th at Denton County Country Club. I also will be there and we would love to see you. Per NCAA rules, an outside entity is coordinating the event and not UNT, but my staff is allowed to promote and appear at the event. The same company operating this event did the same thing at Gonzaga, Arizona and Houston recently. You will be contacted soon about your interest in participating and the details on the outing. THIS helps us win. THIS helps us recruit. GMG! Ross Hodge DIRECT LINK TO GOLF TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION: https://www.campiosports.com/register-motg

  2. Man, even the blue bloods are having problems replenishing their NIL these days. I don’t think NIL is a sustainable business model. I do give the Mean Green Collective a monthly bank donation, but would I do that for the Dallas Cowboys or the Dallas Mavericks (teams I am a fan of)? Hell no, I wouldn’t. What is going to happen to NIL when these players start to get a cut of the revenue share (not that there is much revenue to go around in Denton)?

  3. Good question, my thought is we may have some who want to donate but not play and they could help offset the costs. I will throw this out to the sponsors and see what we can do. The other idea, is if you have a business you could look at sponsoring players or for advertising like sponsoring a hole etc... perhaps you may be able to write it off as a business expense. The money we raised last year was great but we are needing to replenish to help support this new class. The tourney is a great way to do that and they have been very successful doing this at other programs. I think everyone is going to be VERY pleased at this new group of players and our getting behind this event will help keep the momentum going. Thanks for your support! GMG

  4. We are going to either be elated with a victory or in the pit of despair with a loss. Hopefully, we're all elated.

  5. Cherie Spencer made an official visit yesterday. She appears to be one of the top players in Louisiana (2025). Coach Burton announced on twitter (X) that he just received a commitment today; on his birthday. Was it from Cherie? If so, she is impressive. https://x.com/CoachJBurton/status/1828817976067498209 https://x.com/cspncr15_/status/1828052291343020039

  6. Since college sports is all business now… If you want people to buy your product, you need to provide a product that people want to buy.

  9. USA Today's bowl projections has UNT vs.New Mexico State in the Armed Forces Bowl, which I find quite surprising. Granted bowl projections before the season starts are like throwing spit balls on a wall but still.

  10. I have never seen our starting QB throw a ball wearing any kind of NT gear. I mean practice, scrimmage, or anything. It's probably out there but I haven't seen it. I'll admit my engagement has been low this year. When they run out onto the field I'll get pumped up but right now it's fairly muted. It's good ol' day syndrome and those times weren't going to last but it's a far cry from Harry and I leaving work early to watch fall practices and going to every scrimmage which led us to be DYING for the season to start. Oh well. Still have fond memories of watching Buckles, Booger and others tear it up in practice and the anticipation of seeing them for the first time on the field in green.

  13. This is a big job requiring lots of organizational skills...very underappreciated. Thanks to the equipment manager and his team! Those behind the scenes contribute so much without much acknowledgement. Thanks to UNT Football for sharing this.

  16. It’s a great article. My feeling is that if the next breakaway is to form the new level of college football to be like the NFL, then it will be a 32team setup, which will include biggest state schools with largest fan bases and stadiums. That’s these 28 schools for sure: Washington, Oregon, USC, UCLA, Texas, A&M, OU, Nebraska. Iowa. Wisconsin, Michigan, MSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia Tech, UNC, Clemson. South Carolina, Georgia, FSU, Florida, Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Arkansas. There are maybe a few more schools you can consider but Wilner’s point is that TV wants big names and some of these current power teams aren’t bringing value like the ones listed above. Now, could the threat of litigation from individual states get some of their power schools included still? I’d guess yes. So states like Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Maryland, and West Virginia might get some of their schools into the new league, just to appease anyone with any legal power from suing. But it will happen within 10 years, at a maximum.

  18. I too am giving monthly and am proud to do what I can. You raise a valid point, everything is pointing to this NIL stuff going to revenue share and moving to the athletic department. It seems like all the money that was in past earmarked for capital projects is being redirected to NIL now.

  19. I just looked it up. PS money used to be $7,000 a week or so. It's gone up considerably: Rookies and second-year players will earn a minimum of $12,500 for every week they spend on a practice squad. The minimum for veterans with at least three years of experience is $16,800 per week with the maximum salary set at $21,300 per week.

  22. Agree. I like the green helmets but the feathers are awful. The color Green is better this year too! It pops, more like Marshall's green.

  23. Unfortunately, it’s the students that don’t come to the games. The west side where fans like me sit is usually 3/4’s full at every game. I do hope that changes consistently and soon.

  24. Trying to find what he said that was so offensive...? Are y'all talking about his comment about fans not coming to games? 'Tis true. UNT's attendance avg last season: 17,761 Marshall: 23,198 I dunno about y'all, but 6K more fans/gm is pretty noticeable. Sadly, we pulled less than the season average against our "biggest rival". That said, I hope he gets to play there, but he wasn't going to see the field here as long as Chandler is healthy.

Dusting off, replacing old, etc. Line is down to us by 5…got up to as much as us by 8. They are a confident bunch and sound like they are bringing some fans. Should be good atmosphere. https://247sports.com/college/south-alabama/board/59456/contents/game-week-north-texas-235124956/?page=1

  27. Without a doubt, the #1 thing sapping my interest this year...even though we're benefitting, ourselves, from pulling from the lower divisions. The business side of the sport taking over front and center is what all the talking head media people have wanted for years, but not the overwhelming majority of the actual fans of the sport. When business takes over, the fun runs out.

  31. I don’t see how they can mandate that at this point. I can hear it now… “You’re preventing me from going where I want WHEN I want.” And, “If I want to transfer the day before football season starts I should be able to do it.” The NCAA has created a monster and now they’re trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

  35. Are OSU/WSU enticing to any conference at this point? Sure, the MWC commish's comment is probably just for leverage, but if they weren't close enough to add travel partners for Cal/Stanford, I don't think they'd be anyone's radar. If it weren't for Cal/Stanford, I'm sure Memphis/USF/Tulane/UAB/FAU would be higher targets for the ACC if their conference implodes. And once the best teams in the ACC leave, you're mostly left with a bunch of 1-sport schools. At that point I'd hope to see a more regionalized reorganization between those leftovers, The American, the MWC, and maybe some of the top CUSA/Sun Belt schools. Of course, that won't happen, so I'm still hoping we position ourselves to be part of the Pac-12's reorganization.

  36. I was just making an observation. If the guidelines don't say anything about copy-pasting from other forums, then you're allowed, right? Please doesn't call me out on not commenting on the subject matter. You didn't comment either. In that sense, we're both making observations, AMIRIGHT? He copy-pasted the entire post from the thread. Which, as we can see in the guidelines, looks like it's okay!

  38. So it looks like our NFL representation is this: Jeff Wilson, Miami Dolphins roster Nate Brooks, Cincinnati Bengals practice squad Jalen Guyton, LV Raiders practice squad Kemon Hall, Dallas Cowboys practice squad Jaelon Darden, Cleveland Browns practice squad Zac Orr, Baltimore Ravens Def. Coordinator is that it?
