To Our Most Passionate Supporters, I hope everyone had a great summer. We finished up our eight-week summer training and I am thrilled with our progress. Our guys worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the court. Off the floor, they are meshing nicely as several new faces have arrived in Denton. We just started back with fall classes and can’t wait to get back to work. You will love this team. Thank you for your amazing support of UNT and our basketball program. Due to your generosity, we are able to compete on a national level in recruiting and on the court. Your contributions to our players Name Image and Likeness (NIL) initiatives and other specific giving initiatives are game changers for us. I would like to ask your support of a golf outing/NIL event our players are hosting on September 30th at Denton County Country Club. I also will be there and we would love to see you. Per NCAA rules, an outside entity is coordinating the event and not UNT, but my staff is allowed to promote and appear at the event. The same company operating this event did the same thing at Gonzaga, Arizona and Houston recently. You will be contacted soon about your interest in participating and the details on the outing. THIS helps us win. THIS helps us recruit. GMG! Ross Hodge DIRECT LINK TO GOLF TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION: https://www.campiosports.com/register-motg16 points

I don’t get the Vito hate. He has to cover a program that has not exactly done a whole lot to be positive about. And he reports for a town that mostly acts like UNT Athletics doesn’t exist.7 points

I thought Kemon was at the very least a lock for the Cowboys' PS. Anyway....Cleveland signed Darden to their PS: https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-practice-squad-tracker-team-by-team-roster-signings-ahead-of-2023-season4 points

If you want to read it just pay for it. They covered our team. If we pay (which is how these journalists eat) they may continue to cover us. We keep expecting a steak dinner for the price of a value menu and that doesnt work.4 points

So it looks like our NFL representation is this: Jeff Wilson, Miami Dolphins roster Nate Brooks, Cincinnati Bengals practice squad Jalen Guyton, LV Raiders practice squad Kemon Hall, Dallas Cowboys practice squad Jaelon Darden, Cleveland Browns practice squad Zac Orr, Baltimore Ravens Def. Coordinator is that it?3 points

Nate Brooks also made the Bengals practice squad. Looks like everybody did enough to stick around in some capacity. Good for them.3 points

Good question, my thought is we may have some who want to donate but not play and they could help offset the costs. I will throw this out to the sponsors and see what we can do. The other idea, is if you have a business you could look at sponsoring players or for advertising like sponsoring a hole etc... perhaps you may be able to write it off as a business expense. The money we raised last year was great but we are needing to replenish to help support this new class. The tourney is a great way to do that and they have been very successful doing this at other programs. I think everyone is going to be VERY pleased at this new group of players and our getting behind this event will help keep the momentum going. Thanks for your support! GMG3 points

Did you look at the date of the article? The new head coach of the Chargers doesn’t know Jalen Guyton from the man in the moon. He did make the Raiders practice squad though.3 points

BIlly hit on the thing I've been thinking about re: the defense -- generating negative plays and getting turnovers. I will disagree a little in that this defensive scheme does have some plans for generating negative plays -- mostly with stunts and pressures. There was a lot of good defensively in every game. Even the Cal one. Lot of near-negative plays, but a QB/RB would slip a tackle, or a guy would be in slow to close a gap, or this or that. I hope -- and believe -- those will be fewer and more far between. I also liked the coverage. Logan Wilson, Phil Hill, were good. We got big stops when needed them vs Tulane, Memphis (before we didn't) and others. You have to squint and look beyond the glaring, blinding statistics. I think we die-hards are the only ones wiling to do that, though haha.3 points

Smoked or fried bologna is good though. Plain regular bologna, not so much.3 points

If this is for all sports, then Don January (4x NCAA Division 1 Golf Champion), Joe Greene, and Abner Haynes are the first 3. After that we should consider Odis Mitchell (responsible for Greene and Haynes coming to UNT), Booger Kennedy (played on a team that actually won a bowl game and made at least one All American Team), Javian Hamlet (conference player and athlete of the year who actually led us to first NCAA Tournament victory). Never a coach that spent less than 20+ years at North Texas.3 points

Cherie Spencer made an official visit yesterday. She appears to be one of the top players in Louisiana (2025). Coach Burton announced on twitter (X) that he just received a commitment today; on his birthday. Was it from Cherie? If so, she is impressive. https://x.com/CoachJBurton/status/1828817976067498209 https://x.com/cspncr15_/status/18280522913430200392 points

"I'm just happy to be here and I hope I can help the ballclub" I think that is the only cliche he missed.2 points

yeah I understood. I think we understand the idea behind it the scheme is more of a bend-but-don't-break thing with some calculated pressures. They just absolutely need to tackle better in those spots where they didn't last year, and make plays when they have them in the backfield (so many near misses from Mazin Richards, et al)2 points

We were 121st in stopping third downs, that can't happen. We were 102nd in red zone defense (rushing TDs in the red zone killed us although we have some strange company down with us). NT has to get off the field more often and force field goals. Can't just have plays here and there. Sorry to pick on one position but the LBs have to make plays at or near the LOS.2 points

Guyton resigns with the Chargers https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38825156/chargers-put-wr-joshua-palmer-ir-get-jalen-guyton-back The above is incorrect as that was an article from last year. Guyton signed to the Raider's practice squad this year.2 points

He played as a true freshman at Northern Arizona. Take a look at his film, he'll light your ass up. The guy behind him had offers from UT, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Purdue, and Indiana. We will be fine at that position. https://247sports.com/recruitment/jayven-anderson-147702/recruitinterests/2 points

South Alabama is Major Applewhite’s second go-round as a college head football coach, and first since the 2018 Armed Forces Bowl loss to Army ended his second and final season at Houston. Applewhite and the Jaguars host North Texas at Hancock Whitney Stadium for their 2024 season-opener on Saturday. South Alabama’s offensive coordinator the last three seasons, he took over in January after Kane Wommack left to become defensive coordinator at Alabama. Asked Monday about returning to the head-coaching role, Applewhite downplayed the significance. He did, however, admit to being “anxious” about his team’s first on-field test of the season. “I’m no different than anybody else,” Applewhite said. “It’s just like a big day at work. You have anxiety, you have excitement. There’s things that you’re concerned about that you’re not sure if you’re gonna see or not see. read more: https://www.al.com/sports/2024/08/south-alabama-opener-will-be-major-applewhites-first-game-as-head-coach-in-6-years.html?outputType=amp2 points

Don't really care about the championship. Mostly care about Utah State finishing 38 and 18 in NET the past 2 seasons. St Bonaventure finished in the 80s last year but they play in a well respected conference. Either way, there's potential for 2 solid wins.2 points

I like Vito; I like a fresh voice once in a while. At times, Vito seems dark and down on North Texas.2 points

I see that as a high, and perhaps unrealistic, bar. We'll need good play from the QB position, but we really need the defense to step up from "awful" to at least "bad."2 points

I am going with Damon Ward Jr. on offense. Kid has worked himself back from a pretty nasty knee injury a couple of years ago and is now a senior. I look for him to lead us in receiving this year. Defense, I am going with Jordan Brown. He has been a pretty steady contributor for a couple of years at LB, but this year he is going to take his game to the next level and remind us of some of our LB's of the past.1 point

Bummer. ☹️ https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41002911/nfl-cuts-tracker-2024-live-roster-updates-all-32-teams Jaelon Darden also cut by the Browns and Jalen Guyton cut by the Raiders.1 point

Want proof that there is already a clear division between the top 30 teams in FBS and the rest (which includes the Texas Techs and Baylors of the world and the Pac-2)? Look no further than the point spreads for the games played by the top 10 teams in the country in week one. Multiple spreads of FORTY plus points, with several against FBS teams that “play in the same division of college football.”1 point

So if we win, do we get the winner of Utah State and St Bonaventure? It says bracket so I'm guessing it's like a small tournament. If so, I like it. All quality mid-majors.1 point
