SMU fans talking like conference realignment experts still gives me a little chuckle. SMU is going to be on the outside looking in when the ACC finally blows up just like most of the country.6 points

I think there should be improvement in year 2. I think we have an established QB with experience. I think they don't and a new coach. Did the influx of new players improve the talent level? We'll see. I'm going on a little bit of blind faith here that Morris sees something and the 2nd year of this defensive scheme will be better (it can't be worse) I'll be disappointed if we lose. North Texas 34 S. Alabama 27 This is a game that Morris has to win if he's going to show that we are making progress. No excuses5 points

It's that time of the year fellas. College football is starting! My prediction for next week. Year 2 of the Eric Morris era gets off to a hot start. We show the world he's not a great value version of Seth Littrell. The 3-3-5 now has capable of defenders. We make stops and move the ball. North Texas 35 South Alabama 244 points

Nice story by Ethan at 247. Really glad to see those two freshmen DL. Impressive class. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/article/standout-freshmen-who-will-travel-with-the-mean-green-in-2024-235030545/4 points

South Alabama will be starting a new QB and not a single QB on their roster has ever been a D1 starter or played any significant snaps. I think the 3-3-5 will have more good moments than bad. Enough so that the performance may be misleading for what's to come the rest of the year. This is about next Saturday though. I'm taking North Texas 28-21.4 points

Every other team also has those small rosters, so if teams are doling out more NIL money there's no advantage for us. I don't want to hear that UNT should become a basketball-first program until we start to become a basketball power. Otherwise we will gain nothing by small-timing our football team.4 points

The AAC is the perfect league for our teams right now. We need to show we can actually compete here in football and continue to provide strength in hoops.4 points
-
Yuck! They had to leave the AAC because they couldn't compete with UH, Cincy and UCF or hell even Memphis. They definitely wouldn't be able to compete in the XII4 points

Not sure about video but they do post them as podcasts under The Official Mean Green Podcast. Posted today.4 points

So there are all sorts of rumors swirling around right now about how Texas A&M could be leaving the SEC for the Big 10 as early 2026, and a rumor to follow that up is that Texas Tech would be the first choice to replace A&M in the SEC. This would leave a hole in the Big 12. I don’t know if there is ANY truth to any of these rumors but regardless, our athletic department needs to start a fund right now for the AAC exit fees so that we can take tech TTUs place in the Big 12. If we can actually start winning over the next few seasons there should be no reason we aren’t a prime candidate to replace them- if any of this actually happens.3 points

I've been drinking the Kool-aid..... 31-24 NT Must win game for both teams!3 points

UNT 45 USA 38 We give up a lot of points, but we score more.3 points

The UTA AD and administrators said the same thing when they were justifying dropping football. Their basketball is still the same, lame. No change in 30 years even being the spotlight primary sport now with additional funding and a new arena. Football drives the bus with donors and is the basis for realignment invites. It gets the majority of media coverage for a college. It always has.3 points

Go read the titles of that guy's other unhinged videos. Pure clickbait, zero info.3 points

We don't have the money to compete with the big boys in the NIL. Also, our poor attendance of 4,000 average for men's basketball closes more doors than it opens.3 points

I've mentioned UConn going to the Big XII via their dominant basketball program for at least a year now. I still believe UNT should throw most of their eggs in basketball while keeping the football program afloat. The Big XII specifically has marketed itself as the premiere basketball conference for a few years now. It only makes sense with our location relative to the Big XII to make a push on that front. If a spot came open, being a regular top 25 basketball team would make us an attractive addition. Frankly, it would make us attractive for any conference.3 points

I really like Ethan! He does a nice job and a lot of free stuff.3 points

I found @Aldo walking in the pacific northwest and had him clean himself up and get ready to do the show. https://open.substack.com/pub/meangreennation/p/mgn-221-2024-season-preview?r=du4qo&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true2 points

Are you certain? Seems like attendance has been trending up. Nevertheless, it isn’t where it needs to be most definitely.2 points

My prediction is a 36-team SEC and Big 10 functioning like a collegiate NFL, raking in staggering amounts of money while everybody else is on the outside fighting for tablescraps. And SMU won't be able to buy their way into that club even if they forego all TV revenue until the heat death of the universe.2 points
-
So we beat Purdue in NCAA's, won NIT, and didn't move attendance needle one point. The students at UNT don't put cheeks in the seats and support athletics .2 points

I missed it but was curious if they videoed it and it's available on demand. If not they really need to.2 points

Caponi and Davis discussed every likely starters attributes. Svoboda also discussed the kickers, long snappers and TE’s. It was a really good listen.2 points

Wish the broadcast picked up more of the crowd noise. The Maniacs have been fantastic all season and the football team really brought a lot of energy too.2 points

I remember a lot of us agreed Fine's long-ball game - strength and accuracy - improved significantly from Y1 to Y2. Not a huge counter-point against what you're saying here, but I think it's worth reminding us that Fine def got better and was not "nearly finished".2 points

Nice interview with Chandler Morris during the first half. If you have ESPN+, you can catch the replay. The interview started around the 35-36 minute mark. Football team and coaches were in attendance.2 points

I am curious about Zach Evans' status. Not mentioned on the 2 deep or in the podcast. Otherwise, very useful interviews!2 points

There is a zero percent chance A&M leaves the SEC. Zero. And there is a better chance of Texas Tech dropping football than getting an SEC invite.2 points

Stanford and Cal knew about the increase in travel costs when they moved to the ACC. Why would they go back to the PAC 2? Plus they sighed away their media rights when they joined the ACC.1 point

More athletic potential than Fine. But Fine arrived as a nearly finished product. Even with Bean’s game management limitations the game plan could have been simplified to get better results. If you can dominate FBS with Tim Tebow’s limitations as a passer in a spread formation offense, you should be able to win consistently with a physical talent like Bean against G5 with the horses we had in the backfield at that time. Fine was unquestionably better but a College Coach should be able to develop a player with the gifts Bean had into something even more successful than Fine was.1 point

I liked the video introducing himself to us. I personally loved his belief that UNT must meet the workforce needs of our dynamic market. The region is popping and being the largest research institution in North Texas, UNT must step up and supply, contribute. I truly hope this lifts the caliber of recruit and reputation of our esteemed University. Our students must be equipped to compete with the Longhorns and Aggies on the state, national and global stage. Mix in some sports success and this will be an interesting new day in wonderful DTX. Well then, he’s stealing my plan! I said it here first. Well, sort of.1 point

I’d bet that more of their students like sports, in general, than ours do. Texas State just finally had a season to get some attention. Same thing happened at UTSA.1 point

Yeah I think it was a torn ACL. He missed the UAB game at the end of the season and was out for the offseason/spring (presumably surgery). Where he is at seems pretty consistent with a 9-month ACL recovery, given that he played the second to last game of the year.1 point

Bean's arm was always live. The issue was decision making and hesitancy. He balled out tonight. SL couldn't develop a quarterback to save his life.1 point
