So there are all sorts of rumors swirling around right now about how Texas A&M could be leaving the SEC for the Big 10 as early 2026, and a rumor to follow that up is that Texas Tech would be the first choice to replace A&M in the SEC. This would leave a hole in the Big 12. I don’t know if there is ANY truth to any of these rumors but regardless, our athletic department needs to start a fund right now for the AAC exit fees so that we can take tech TTUs place in the Big 12. If we can actually start winning over the next few seasons there should be no reason we aren’t a prime candidate to replace them- if any of this actually happens.7 points

There is a zero percent chance A&M leaves the SEC. Zero. And there is a better chance of Texas Tech dropping football than getting an SEC invite.7 points

I think North Texas would be included. I think the eventual endgame would be an East/West "merger" of the MWC/Pac-2 and AAC. West - Washington State, Oregon State, San Diego State, Fresno State, San Jose State, Boise State, UNLV, Colorado State, Air Force East - North Texas, UTSA, Rice, Tulane, South Florida, East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, Army4 points

People say this kind of thing but put zero thought into how or why these decisions would be made. Why, in a millions years, would SEC ever add Texas Tech? Assuming they needed to add anyone, Tech is not historically great at football. They don't have a bigger following than any average mid tier state school. They have zero media market. They have zero local recruiting. It doesn't add any new territory for any of the above. They wouldn't generate anywhere near the revenue they take out, so they are worse than nothing. What reason are you concluding makes them the choice? Tech is one of the least likely schools to add to SEC from B12.3 points

Those rumors are absolutely ridiculous. Without additional changes that would make the transfer a significant financial win for all big brand members of those conferences, it has no chance in hell of happening. Any source putting out these kind of rumors without extensive supporting evidence isn't worth wasting your time on. Comic books are more entertaining and slightly less realistic in this case. 😂3 points

I liked the video introducing himself to us. I personally loved his belief that UNT must meet the workforce needs of our dynamic market. The region is popping and being the largest research institution in North Texas, UNT must step up and supply, contribute. I truly hope this lifts the caliber of recruit and reputation of our esteemed University. Our students must be equipped to compete with the Longhorns and Aggies on the state, national and global stage. Mix in some sports success and this will be an interesting new day in wonderful DTX. Regardless, we do need to continue be looking forward. The American may have the best media rights deal of the G5 at the moment, but once renegotiation begins without Cincinnati, UCF, Houston, and SMU the reality will set in that we are in a CUSA 2.0. A bunch of randomly-scattered schools across the country with no notable rivalries. My hopes are still a revived Pac 12 brand with the best of the MWC and us, UTSA, Rice, and UTEP.2 points

I like his charisma and attitude. Players seem to like him. Why are you discounting him after 1 year??? I get the whole defense was terrible last year and he kept the dc, but what else has he done that makes you so sure he won’t be successful?? He’s proven that he can build a killer offense. Realistically we didn’t have the right personnel for our defense last year, but as a g5 program you’re not going to get a plethora of d-linemen, so in theory, a 3-3-5 is your best option if you get the right back 8.2 points

I will certainly acknowledge he had the program on the right track...until... he didn't take the K-State job and Mason Fine graduated, then all the air just went out. He couldn't find a new QB and never get over the hump of winning a conference title or Bowl game. But he was a good .500 coach.2 points

Seems to me with NIL and all the defections have increased the amounts of players who are transferring prematurely. I think some, not all of us are interested in seeing how their careers turn out.2 points

Who can say "herosports.com" is even in the Top 40 of ranking services? It's all just a guess.2 points

With the transfer portal and NIL I think its hard to rank recruiting.2 points

I like how you completely botched where Fine came from but then flip it on GMG_Dallas and make it seem like they’re the person who did something wrong or uncouth. Football season is so back!2 points

Now they will be the 3rd largest research university in Texas, with a combined enrollment of 40K, and an endowment of well over $1 billion. What is UNT's response? Because not being able to have a medical school is killing UNT's future.1 point

Bean's arm was always live. The issue was decision making and hesitancy. He balled out tonight. SL couldn't develop a quarterback to save his life.1 point

But you have to give him credit for helping create those expectations in the first place. Remember, he inherited this https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/10/10/9494755/portland-state-vikings-football-washington-state-north-texas-fcs-win-records1 point

Or any other part of the university. They have a great medical school now which will likely help years down the road with more alumni with lots of cash. But right now the rest of the university is still subpar with a lot of first generation college students. That’s not changing anytime soon.1 point

Irrelevant rankings these days with the transfers not coming in until late. We finished 5th in the AAC in the 2024 cycle per 247, good for 69th overall and 7th amongst the G5/G6 schools. The only non-AAC schools ahead of us were Boise State and Toledo. I believe that's HS only. The transfer rankings have us at 74 overall but I'm not sure how they keep up with that when you consider guys transfer in and back out all in one semester.1 point

I keep seeing them throw out the combined endowment numbers as if the athletic program will get to touch any of the UT Health SA money.1 point

I think that our entire season rests on the shoulders of our defense. We should be able to score similar to last year but can we stop anyone?1 point

No doubt that Saturday of the LaTech game was the single best atmosphere and environment I've ever seen around a UNT football gameday. Don't forget we unveiled the Mean Joe statue and had a big presentation for that with a bunch of NFL HOFers in attendance only a couple of hours before kickoff. Then that NORTH TEXAS chant in late 3rd qtr or 4th on a LaTech 3rd down (where we then sacked the QB and forced a punt)....man I still pull that clip up on my phone and get chills. Then we got the field goal blocked and news broke that next week that Seth was talking to KSU....and it all went downhill from there. But you're right....Seth owns the all-time highest emotional moment where it actually felt like we might just break through.1 point

I can already hear the excuses now... "We brought in Isheem to be the missing piece for the defense, but he got hurt before the season even started. We got his waiver cleared with the NCAA for 2025, and we have some guys that stepped up, so we're even more experienced in this system now..."1 point

I suppose you're not understanding, so let's break it down. I have some time today. What is your realistic expectation of the 2024 Mean Green football team this year? Consider the following: Schedule/opponents, coaching staff, players...1 point
-
Look at Texas State, hired the Incarnate word coach, there two years, went to the FCS playoffs, Brought in 56 new transfers and turned the Texas State team completely around to a 9-4 team…won their bowl game with Rice in Dallas (SMU stadium) to a full house…we probably interview their coach, but chose Morris, our mistake! Morris better produce this season or else!1 point

Honestly I think it’s this simple. He either looks like a genius for riding with Caponi in year 2 if the 3-3-5 works with new personnel and we all come on here and happily eat crow, OR he digs his own grave if the defense amounts to anything resembling last year. I hated everything about the 2023 defense.1 point
