We got a "Do you believe in the Mean Green" during the TD by the announcers. They also mentioned his Pick-6's in UNT wins against $mut and Arkansas. Good publicity.7 points

You serious Clark? You may need to revisit the 2017 class. You can’t be serious here. Morris took a 7-5 team that played in a conference championship game and a bowl game and led them to a 5-7 season facing essentially the same schedule as the year before except for Tulane being added. He got beat by FIU for crying out loud. We beat that team 52-14 and 49-7 in the two seasons prior to Morris’ arrival. He is a worse version of Littell.5 points

In the era of NIL can anyone get multiple years to build anything at the G5 level. We just don’t have that luxury.4 points

I was a really loud vocal critic of Seth Littrell during that last season, because I knew we could be more. I didn't know Mosely was going to hire a Great Value brand Littrell as the replacement though. Like, why even make the change?4 points

What a night for Kemon Hall, Dallas......3 tackles (2 solo).....but one 69 yard PIC SIX was the best moment. Same game....Jalen Guyton (Raiders).....2 catches for 8 yards Jeff Wilson, no stats for Miami. Probably didn't play....but am not sure. McDaniel (the coach) likes Jeff (brought him over from SF)...so I think he's in pretty good shape. Jaelon Darden, Cleveland..........2 catches for 21 yards........1 KO return for 29.......2 punt returns for 16 yds. (These new KO rules may really help his chances) Nate Brooks, Cincy..........3 tackles (1 solo)3 points

Hope he starts. Seems like a good kid that just wants a place to play his last year.3 points

It depends on what you mean by "offer." The job was his if he agreed to their demands, and he wouldn't.3 points

Not sure having one good QB for 6 years is "figuring out" a puzzle. @Mean Green 93-98 is right, though. My takeaway: you still need a championship defense.3 points

Personally I don't know how to evaluate our team based upon all the new faces but deferring to those who make a living evaluating talent we are ranked 9th in the AAC with projected 4 to 5 wins. I hope you are right and they are wrong, but what really disturbs me is that Texas State and UTSA are ranked so much higher than UNT.3 points

I have nothing personal against them, but they should not have been granted the Texas State name. It implies more stature than their university has earned. Morris needs UNT to post a better record than TS this season.3 points
-
Hey Joe ! I cringed when I saw you refer to Texas State-San Marcos as Southwest Texas State. Reminded me of another school with an identity problem.3 points
-
Southwest Texas State is getting votes, UT-Sorta Almost is a preseason contender for the 5th playoff auto-bid, and we are still hoping we will figure out how to play defense this season. We should not be in this position. Having said that... I'll be at the games and praying Morris has finally solved the "Leach-Coaching-Tree" defensive mystery.3 points

Reminds me of the old joke. Person A: “Where at?” Person B: “Don’t finish your sentences with a preposition.” Person A: “Okay. Where at, bitch”.2 points

This is just it. There is no way to evaluate any of these programs with so much change from last year.2 points

Message from the General Manager at Wings Over Frisco, who is also a UNT alumnus: We’re excited to support the upcoming watch parties with a special "Mean Green" drink, and we’ll be offering $4 draft beers to anyone wearing UNT-themed attire during the games. Additionally, as a way to show our support for the community, we’re pleased to offer a 10% discount every day of the week for UNT staff, alumni, and current students who visit us wearing UNT clothing. We look forward to celebrating with you and the UNT community!2 points

Yes he did, although that first appearance was a 6-5 season. The final year was impressive, but then surprisingly bailed to OC at Washington St. Was a HC four years at the FCS level. Better experience than Littrell when we hired him so that is a plus. But there were more experienced guys out there with real FBS results to be had at the same or similar money. At the very least, the Caponi hire and massive overpayment is a permanent black mark on his reputation and decision making.2 points

Morris didn't get much of a roster from Seth. No workable QB and many players bailed with the coaching change.2 points

That is a fair point. I was referring to hiring an unproven HC when we seemed to have better options.2 points

Hiring Morris is the most NT thing ever. What was inexcusable was paying top dollar for a DC who had never been a coordinator previously (ok D3 or whatever doesn’t count).2 points

I’ve emailed one of the staffers on this subject. Eric is a big believer that you don’t give away free info because you want people to buy tickets to see it for themselves. I disagree.2 points

Morris gets a hall pass for last year. It was his first year as HC. I know, we were in the C-USA conference championship the year before. The 3-3-5 was an utter disappointment. Now, the roster is pretty much guys he recruited (I counted 10 Littrell guys on the current roster). If we don't make a bowl game this year, I will be in the "what are we doing here" camp.2 points

Soccer will be fine, just going through some early season growing pains with a young team! The three P4 teams we have played- Colorado, OU and Alabama all were tight games and could have easily been draws! Also the home crowd/fan support has been incredible! GMG2 points

Yes, that's the wording. An article I saw referenced the CFP committee having to decide between non-ranked conference champs, which again brings in human bias. To me all FBS Conference champs should have automatic access to any FBS playoff. Otherwise, why label it as an FBS Championship? Increase the playoff to 18 teams if need be, but all other Divisions value a conference championship.2 points

I’m not a Seth hater, but he never faced a stretch of games like Tulane, Memphis, UTSA, and SMU. It’s not just who you play. When and where you play them has to be taken into account. I’ll give you the fact that the FIU loss was bad…really, really bad.2 points

Agree that 30 is more reasonable from where we have been. We have had one of the worst defenses in the NCAA, 131st out of 133, 2 places out of dead last. Sound like a broken record every year saying this, but this South Alabama opening will really give us a better idea of where this defense is, at least talent wise. It is going to take them time to gel with so many new faces.2 points

Since Traylor's arrival, they have a program that doesn't rely all that much on the QB. Just solid play from the position, and they'll contend for a conference championship. We had otherworldly QB play last year, and we finished 5-7.2 points

I'll hold off on Morris being the better hire... Let's see if keeping Caponi was a smart move.2 points

You can’t put a coach on the hot seat after 1 season. I remember when they used to give coaches 3-5 years to build a program. However, with the current situation, you are building a new team every year.2 points

The wording is "Guaranteed bids for the top five conference champions in the CFP rankings." So yes, it would have to include at least one G5. It could theoretically include more in those guaranteed bids, but unlikely. E.g., if the American and MWC conference champs were both to outrank the ACC conference champs. My main point earlier was that winning the conference alone won't guarantee us a spot, even among the at-large bids.1 point

No offense but not sure if they had any other choice. Caponi got a 2 year deal so they would have paid him not to work.1 point

I think I would take this collective group of 49 (?) players over any of the Littrell classes, top to bottom. It takes optimism and a bit of faith (often unrewarded, I admit) to be a North Texas fan. I've gotten just enough snippets and peeks of what we have to look forward to to be green-powered with both. And even the early results would steer me to choose Morris over Littrell. I work with one of his cousins, new to the North Texas region. I like the cut of their jib. GMG1 point
