  1. Morris's seat needs to be on the burner with a hand reaching to turn the gas on. We can not afford to have another shitty season.

  2. You can’t put a coach on the hot seat after 1 season. I remember when they used to give coaches 3-5 years to build a program. However, with the current situation, you are building a new team every year.

  3. I believe the play of Morris and our offense in general is not going to be a problem this year, just like it was not last season. If our defense does not improve we can look for a repeat of last season, the opener will be a damn good indicator for what we can expect.

  4. I know we're just one season in....but I can't help but look at the two and think how similar they are. Both played at TT, (oops. I mean they both DIDN’T play at TT but Mike Leach and stuff) Air Raid guys. OC at P5 school. We knew all that coming into it. But their coaching results are fairly similar too.... Before Morris's big 4th year at IW, he was a below .500 coach in three years. He then took an all world QB and rode him to a big season. His only real success was when he had one of the top QBs in the nation. Sound familiar? Taking a step back at the whole of his career, Morris has actually only had one good year in five. Littrell had two good years in seven. So three good years in 12 between the two. Combined post season record of 1-7. (SL 0-5 in bowls, EM 1-2 in the playoffs) So there's a pretty small sample of winning that gets highlighted over an otherwise mediocre overall result. It seems like we're once again sitting around waiting for our HC to find the next Cam Ward/Mason Fine. So again...we get transfer QB after transfer QB to hopefully be the 2nd coming (and I will give Morris credit on Chandler Rogers, he was a good find, not Cam Ward/Mason Fine level, but he was good. But like Littrell late in his tenure here, he couldn't keep a top player in Denton. Also, even with this good QB, he wasn't able to win consistently. With the SL/EM mentality, you have to have a near record breaking QB to overcome everything else)….because, as always here the past several years: "defense shmefence" The formula here seems to be try to score 40 per game and have one of the best QBs in the nation on your team so he can throw for 4500 yards. If you don't you're not going to win. Not sure what Morris will do differently....but this sure seems like a really important year for him. Looking at last years record, the positive is we were in most games, lost plenty by one score. So if we can get all these new players to gel, and if Chandler Morris is the guy (and stays healthy), maybe Morris breaks the trend. But to do this, he is going to have to break the other trend we've seen here since 2016, one that Littrell was a master at. He is going to have to beat some teams he is not supposed to beat. Seth Littrell pretty much NEVER did that. Eric Morris is going to HAVE to.

  5. You serious Clark? You may need to revisit the 2017 class. You can’t be serious here. Morris took a 7-5 team that played in a conference championship game and a bowl game and led them to a 5-7 season facing essentially the same schedule as the year before except for Tulane being added. He got beat by FIU for crying out loud. We beat that team 52-14 and 49-7 in the two seasons prior to Morris’ arrival. He is a worse version of Littell.

  6. I remember when players had to play both ways, but you are right. Programs , especially G6's, are rebuilding every year in football and basketball, and it's harder to evaluate coaches. The absurdity of the state of college athletics to me was when Texas Tech paid $1 million for a women's softball pitcher from USC to play for the Red Raiders for one year. However, after giving it some thought I think she didn't ask enough for having to move from L.A. to Lubbock.

  7. If he's as good a QB as Sides is a receiver, then we have something very special going here.

  8. I didn't realize he has two years of eligibility left https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/article/from-trials-to-triumph-chandler-morris-journey-to-become-north-texas-starting-quarterback-234642782/ Sophomore wide receiver Landon Sides called Chandler one of the best quarterbacks he's ever played with. Sides' former quarterback at Denton Guyer High School was former five-star Denton Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold, who now plays at the University of Oklahoma. "He puts the ball in a catchable spot every time and he just throws such a great ball," Sides said after a fall camp practice. "(In the) leadership role, he's really stepped up. Coming in, new spot, I get it 100%, but then finally, I think he realized that we're all looking up to him and he's going to be our quarterback."

  9. I think 30 is a more realistic goal and would likely gets us 7 or more wins, since this offense should easily average more than 30-35. But I am not optimistic that the defense will improve.

  13. The first game this season is so critical for Eric Morris. S Alabama is a good team. Not a great team. New HC….I would say we have better talent. So this is a game where the better coaching will win. Looking at the rest of the schedule in his 2nd year. Every game is easily winnable from a talent perspective with the exception of TT and maybe Memphis.

  14. Since Traylor's arrival, they have a program that doesn't rely all that much on the QB. Just solid play from the position, and they'll contend for a conference championship. We had otherworldly QB play last year, and we finished 5-7.

  15. I mean. They’ve had 1 QB for like 15 years……

  17. I think I would take this collective group of 49 (?) players over any of the Littrell classes, top to bottom. It takes optimism and a bit of faith (often unrewarded, I admit) to be a North Texas fan. I've gotten just enough snippets and peeks of what we have to look forward to to be green-powered with both. And even the early results would steer me to choose Morris over Littrell. I work with one of his cousins, new to the North Texas region. I like the cut of their jib. GMG

  18. Have to say, it's been a few years since I was really looking forward this much to a season opener. On paper, they may be the favorite, but I think we have some talent here. If we go down there and win this game, I will feel a WHOLE LOT better about this season... Really intrigued by this game.

  19. It’s sad that people wouldn’t think Morris should be on the hot seat. Most likely they think either “well NT should be happy with five wins” or “well it’s NT so they won’t fire a coach this early in a contract no matter what.” #sad

  20. Great job on the depth chart…I think you’re going to be surprised with the freshmen running backs, they have game and one of them will probably start by game 3…I don’t know how good we’re going to be this year, but I believe we may be better than most think! I’m predicting an 8-4 season. Coach has learned his lessons the hard way last year; for example, they’re on the one foot line at Navy early in the game and he goes for it on 4th and one??? We should have won that game, always go for the points!

  21. I am sure that there are some who will disagree but as far as conferences go this is the best one we have ever been in and we are fortunate to have gotten here. Now we just need to show WHY we are here!

  22. Quote:Venu, the combined sports streaming service from Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox, may not launch after all. On Friday, a federal judge ruled in favor of rival sports streamer Fubo and barred the three media conglomerates from proceeding with its planned release of Venu, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The decision comes six months after Fubo filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging that it was forced to carry dozens of costly non-sports networks as a condition of licensing sports rights from the three companies that have since partnered to launch Venu. The very existence of Venu, Fubo argued, would “substantially lessen competition and restrain trade.” Disney, WBD and Fox intend to appeal the decision, and have released the following statement (per Variety): We respectfully disagree with the court’s ruling and are appealing it. We believe that Fubo’s arguments are wrong on the facts and the law, and that Fubo has failed to prove it is legally entitled to a preliminary injunction. Venu Sports is a pro-competitive option that aims to enhance consumer choice by reaching a segment of viewers who currently are not served by existing subscription options. Venu (pronounced like “venue”) was expected to launch this fall, and arrive in tandem with the upcoming NFL season. The sports-centric platform was first announced in February and would reportedly give subscribers access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV and ESPN+. That would let subscribers watch live NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL games, along with MMA fights, NASCAR races and many more events. The joint venture previously announced an initial subscription price of $42.99 per month. A seven-day free trial would be available to all who subscribe, and users who sign up for Venu’s launch price would maintain that price for 12 months from time of sign-up, with the ability to cancel at any time. 24. I think there will be a few surprises in the AAC. Just too much turn over in personnel in most all conference schools to really judge anybody. Maybe by end of Sept you'll see who put together a good team.

  25. Agreed. I don't think anyone has questioned Morris' ability as a QB. His durability seems to be what most are concerned with. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

  27. We had Texas in 1980....and I think 1981 as well. (And also Vic Trilli got Tom Penders to give us a game in Denton.....in '97?) In 1980.....we were down 69-60 with 1:07 left....came back and tied the game in regulation (71-71) on a half court shot (by Pat Hicks). We won in overtime. (This was before the 3 point shot, btw). By the way....I think we got two games out of Texas, back when Abe Lemons was their coach. At least one. And here's how we got those game(s): We had a great player named Fred Mitchell....played for Coach Blakely '75-'78. Fred's brother was a stud out of Amarillo...named Victor. Victor was committed to us. He wanted to get out of his commitment to go to UT. Coach Blakely got with Abe....and we agreed to free Victor....if Texas would give us a home game. (Like I said....I think we got two...but am not sure). Anyway......long story short....Victor signed with Kansas.

  28. 5. AAC The American Athletic Conference once again stands above its peers. The AAC is still the only Group of Five conference to produce a College Football Playoff team -- Cincinnati in 2021 -- and would have sent a team under the current format 12-team seven times since 2015. But it's not just the past elevating the AAC's ranking here. Preseason favorite Memphis has as good a shot as any other Group of Five team to make the playoff if it can live up to expectations. The Tigers return 17 starters from 2023's 10-win squad, including the program's most prolific passer in quarterback Seth Henigan. Even with SMU out of the fold, the AAC also returns three teams that managed at least nine wins a year ago. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2024-college-football-conference-power-rankings-sec-starts-season-on-top-but-big-ten-isnt-far-behind/

  34. WOW ONE BOOK. I guess we'll just slap the same the same label on the thousands of others thrown out. Buddy my wife went to a distinguished liberal arts university and has two degrees in English. I assure you her degree has been anything but worthless. I could go on but I will simply state that the con artists are far right so called conservatives who want to be on the same side of history as Pinochet and Mussolini.

  36. The article mentioned as an example: Some discarded books included "Nine and Counting: The Women of the Senate", This book was written by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson in 2000. I have a signed copy at home and have great respect for Kay and I have spoken with her on many occasions. Nonetheless, the book falls under your outdated designation. I could go on but will simply state that the con artists are far left so called progressives who waste taxpayer's money promoting useless degree programs.

  39. North Texas practiced outside for a majority of the session at the Lovelace and McNatt Families Indoor Facility on Tuesday afternoon to help the players acclimate to the heat. The team will need to adjust to the heat as they have their season opener in Mobile, Alabama, against South Alabama at 4 p.m., as well as non-conference games that will be played in Texas. Tuesday marked the first practice open to the media since the Mean Green's first scrimmage on Saturday. Head coach Eric Morris spoke about the defense being a bright spot during the scrimmage. "Maybe six to eight consecutive three and outs that they went on. Offensively, we couldn't get a dang first down. We dropped a pass early on in the first series and then just kind of never rebounded after that and I thought the defense took advantage of it," Morris said. "It was fun to see them flying around and tackling the football, getting it down on the ground, stopping the run. Kind of all these things we've emphasized as a unit and did a great job." 40. Have you been in the UNT Library lately? About 6 months ago I walked into the library to check it out since I had not been there (the library) in many years. There are social floors and non-social floors and some glass enclosed study areas but there are no books and certainly no card catalog. The only shelves I saw for books were on the top floor for music students (I think mostly archived stuff).
