  3. I watched on ESPN+. Our passing was not good. OU seemed more disciplined on the field with positioning. OU beat #6 Nebraska also 1-0 last week in an exhibition, so comparably we did well. Perhaps we will learn from this and do better against Bama.

  5. Guys, I love UNT football, I really do. But in the last 63 football seasons we had losing records in 62% of them and won 2 bowl games, both of which I was fortunate enough to attend. I am only trying to make the point that accepting 6&6 or 7&5 records is a pretty low bar to set and that unfortunately overall we have never had a good football program.I really don't know what the answer is except I really get discouraged when I compare UNT's to UTSA's in recent years.

  7. DENTON – The UNT women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Oklahoma in the 2024 season opener on Thursday in front of a record crowd of 1,216 fans. The Mean Green (0-1) conceded the difference-maker goal in the 29th minute when an errant pass on the North Texas defensive backline gave the Sooners’ Morganne Elkelbarner an uncontested shot at goal that she didn’t miss. OU (1-0) pressed and limited UNT’s Summer Brown and Bailey Wesco’s opportunities. The two forwards each played more than 50 minutes and had no shot attempts. “Credit to Oklahoma,” said head coach John Hedlund. “They have speed and quickness and they took advantage of our mistake. I thought we did regroup well after that and didn’t give up too many opportunities, but we just could not get our offense going.” UNT finished the match putting four shots on goal to OU’s three and had a free kick opportunity just outside the 18-yard box in the 83rd minute but could not convert. The 1,216-attendance mark set on Thursday is the largest ever at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium, which opened up in 2019. Thursday’s attendance blew away the previous record of 859 that was set during the grand opening of the facility. All-time 1,216 ranks third in the program’s history. Next up for North Texas is another home match as they host No. 20 Alabama on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+. For more information on UNT Soccer tickets, contact the Mean Green Ticket Office at 940-565-2527 or at ticketoffice@unt.edu. Fans can visit the UNT Athletics Ticket Office located at Gate 2 of DATCU Stadium between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  8. The article mentioned as an example: Some discarded books included "Nine and Counting: The Women of the Senate", This book was written by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson in 2000. I have a signed copy at home and have great respect for Kay and I have spoken with her on many occasions. Nonetheless, the book falls under your outdated designation. I could go on but will simply state that the con artists are far left so called progressives who waste taxpayer's money promoting useless degree programs.

  9. Yeah, I miss the days when 5-8 or 4-6 could get you to a bowl game.

  10. North Texas practiced outside for a majority of the session at the Lovelace and McNatt Families Indoor Facility on Tuesday afternoon to help the players acclimate to the heat. The team will need to adjust to the heat as they have their season opener in Mobile, Alabama, against South Alabama at 4 p.m., as well as non-conference games that will be played in Texas. Tuesday marked the first practice open to the media since the Mean Green's first scrimmage on Saturday. Head coach Eric Morris spoke about the defense being a bright spot during the scrimmage. "Maybe six to eight consecutive three and outs that they went on. Offensively, we couldn't get a dang first down. We dropped a pass early on in the first series and then just kind of never rebounded after that and I thought the defense took advantage of it," Morris said. "It was fun to see them flying around and tackling the football, getting it down on the ground, stopping the run. Kind of all these things we've emphasized as a unit and did a great job." 11. They are people who played in a conference championship game and a bowl game before they transferred out. Be nice when we do that again, but I'm not holding my breath for it this season. Might need a new DC first.

  12. UAB and WMU are my options for seeing NT play in a stadium I haven't seen them play in before. Might have to knock out both! (really bummed I missed out on the Annapolis trip last year) GMG

  13. You are right. "Very few" was a poor choice of words. My bad.I just think that if over 60% of your football seasons end with losing records overall you have not been very good for some time with " notable exceptions".

  16. Huh? Either way, this thread is a snapshot of UNT. Hey, let's try this and people come out of the woodwork to think of why things won't work. Guess it is just a trend. Do away with the Homecoming parade, no fireworks 4th of July, etc... We were told that the new stadium would be used to host events and it doesn't. We have a 10,000 seat venue and a 30,000 seat venue that sit empty 90% of the time. A&M hosted two events and raised $6 million dollars. Keeping thinking small and you'll continue to stay small.

  18. 5. AAC The American Athletic Conference once again stands above its peers. The AAC is still the only Group of Five conference to produce a College Football Playoff team -- Cincinnati in 2021 -- and would have sent a team under the current format 12-team seven times since 2015. But it's not just the past elevating the AAC's ranking here. Preseason favorite Memphis has as good a shot as any other Group of Five team to make the playoff if it can live up to expectations. The Tigers return 17 starters from 2023's 10-win squad, including the program's most prolific passer in quarterback Seth Henigan. Even with SMU out of the fold, the AAC also returns three teams that managed at least nine wins a year ago. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2024-college-football-conference-power-rankings-sec-starts-season-on-top-but-big-ten-isnt-far-behind/

  19. I didn't realize he has two years of eligibility left https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/article/from-trials-to-triumph-chandler-morris-journey-to-become-north-texas-starting-quarterback-234642782/ Sophomore wide receiver Landon Sides called Chandler one of the best quarterbacks he's ever played with. Sides' former quarterback at Denton Guyer High School was former five-star Denton Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold, who now plays at the University of Oklahoma. "He puts the ball in a catchable spot every time and he just throws such a great ball," Sides said after a fall camp practice. "(In the) leadership role, he's really stepped up. Coming in, new spot, I get it 100%, but then finally, I think he realized that we're all looking up to him and he's going to be our quarterback."

  20. WOW ONE BOOK. I guess we'll just slap the same the same label on the thousands of others thrown out. Buddy my wife went to a distinguished liberal arts university and has two degrees in English. I assure you her degree has been anything but worthless. I could go on but I will simply state that the con artists are far right so called conservatives who want to be on the same side of history as Pinochet and Mussolini.

  21. Kinda large (6'2" X 220) for an outstanding kick returner. The size of a fullback that can take a kickoff to the house.......a great combination.

  24. Couple of crows shots from the record attendance. Maniacs and athletic department did a great job of implementing the game into First Flight Week programming. A lot of pomp and circumstances with the dance team, cheerleaders, and flag runners in action, too. Maniacs and students were loud and chanting all 90 minutes. Curious if this much effort will continue into this weekend against Bama, who lost 3-0 to TCU last night.

  25. Good home opponents (we will have 7 total home games next year). Definitely going to plan for Rice on the road, optimistic about either Charlotte or Birmingham.

  26. We're not talking about outdated or digitized books here, we're talking about a full scale dismantling of a liberal arts college into a conservative think-tank where agenda trumps education. You should familiarize yourself with the entire context of the situation before just brushing it off your shoulders like i'm overreacting. One of the new trustees installed by Desantis last year is the same con artist screaming about CRT a few years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_College_of_Florida

I think you are pretty much stuck hosting concerts and maybe 7 on 7, select flag football tournaments.

  32. Add this doable league slate to our nonconference games: home against Lamar, Washington State, South Alabama, and at Western Michigan. If we don't make a bowl game next year Morris should be fired. And I currently have no ill feelings towards his job status.

  33. Lifer the one thing those stadiums all share when it comes to soccer is grass. There's a few MLS teams that have no choice, or the climate benefits not using grass (Toronto), but when it comes to the national soccer teams they will not play on turf unless they have to. If it's a qualifier or friendly you're competing directly against a stadium 20 minutes down the road built specifically for soccer in a stadium they know fans will travel to. If they want a crowd bigger than 20k then the options become the Cotton Bowl or Jerryworld, especially for Mexico matches. I also wonder if some of the brick walls make it so that taking a corner kick would be problematic as well, but I'm not certain how the sizing translates. Probably not wrong that some concerts could be hosted here, for sure.

  34. That begs the question, "What teams will be in the P4's or P3's in 5 to 7 years?". Do you think the Wake Forests of the world (just one example) will make the final cut?

  35. According to Brett V....one of the camp surprises has been walk-on QB Drew Mastemaker (Austin Vandergrift). “Drew came in as a walk-on and continues to earn more reps with the twos,” Morris said of UNTs backups. “He has a really live arm and is picking it up fast.” (from the D-RC)

  42. The problem with that is other P4s won’t schedule an away-only game like G5s do. Thus, no more 7 home games like they all want.
