Been wanting this. At least they're being proactive. https://sports.yahoo.com/the-new-college-football-playoff-is-here-are-more-changes-coming-in-the-near-future-120010322.html5 points

I really don't care where they put us at the beginning of the season. Sounds about right, to be honest. But if we're clearly the 116th-best team at the end of the season . . .5 points

I would love to see the G5s form an alliance and then hire Aresco to be the commissioner. Have a minimum amount that a P4 must pay to host a G5 if there is no guaranteed return game at the G5. The problem is that you will have many schools who will cower to the Power schools because they depend on their preseason games to cover their budgets (think MAC). You will also have other schools who continue to do anything the P4s want because they hope to move up (Memphis and USF come to mind).4 points

We had Texas in 1980....and I think 1981 as well. (And also Vic Trilli got Tom Penders to give us a game in Denton.....in '97?) In 1980.....we were down 69-60 with 1:07 left....came back and tied the game in regulation (71-71) on a half court shot (by Pat Hicks). We won in overtime. (This was before the 3 point shot, btw). By the way....I think we got two games out of Texas, back when Abe Lemons was their coach. At least one. And here's how we got those game(s): We had a great player named Fred Mitchell....played for Coach Blakely '75-'78. Fred's brother was a stud out of Amarillo...named Victor. Victor was committed to us. He wanted to get out of his commitment to go to UT. Coach Blakely got with Abe....and we agreed to free Victor....if Texas would give us a home game. (Like I said....I think we got two...but am not sure). Anyway......long story short....Victor signed with Kansas.3 points

Winter classic was played at Cotton Bowl in 2020 with a sold out capacity of 85,6303 points

The turf and the contract FCD signed with Frisco keeps every match in Toyota Stadium, it's fairly ironclad. I used to ask why we couldn't do a special state fair match back in the Cotton Bowl and the wording of the contract basically spells it out.3 points

I don't remember tagging you on a god damn thing. We're talking about the two football stadiums of teams playing one another in a couple of weeks, you're here for what reason?3 points

Once again, I repeat the laziness of sports writers. They might be right, but they do precious little research....especially for the 'little boys' of the world.3 points

How can they rank a team that has added 70 new players? And all teams have gained/lost multiple players over last season. There is no logical way to do rankings until a few weeks into the season. There is little player carryover from the previous season, every team starts from scratch.3 points

A lot of us don't forget the SMU days of pre-June Jones. Getting a ticket for an SMU game was like going to the fireworks stand - buy 1 get 5 free.3 points

That was my first NT game. I came in from Texas, as a mid-year transfer (non-athletes). I was hooked. Thought all NT games had big crowds. And wins. But I am still hooked. GMG2 points

Add this doable league slate to our nonconference games: home against Lamar, Washington State, South Alabama, and at Western Michigan. If we don't make a bowl game next year Morris should be fired. And I currently have no ill feelings towards his job status.2 points

Lifer the one thing those stadiums all share when it comes to soccer is grass. There's a few MLS teams that have no choice, or the climate benefits not using grass (Toronto), but when it comes to the national soccer teams they will not play on turf unless they have to. If it's a qualifier or friendly you're competing directly against a stadium 20 minutes down the road built specifically for soccer in a stadium they know fans will travel to. If they want a crowd bigger than 20k then the options become the Cotton Bowl or Jerryworld, especially for Mexico matches. I also wonder if some of the brick walls make it so that taking a corner kick would be problematic as well, but I'm not certain how the sizing translates. Probably not wrong that some concerts could be hosted here, for sure.2 points

I don't see why we couldn't reach out to F.C. Dallas for a match at Apogee. Hell, bring in the Arlington Renegades from the UFL. These seem like some easy marketing wins for UNT and those teams too2 points

I hope he recovers and that any long-term impact of the injury will be minimal.2 points

The problem with that is other P4s won’t schedule an away-only game like G5s do. Thus, no more 7 home games like they all want.2 points

With few exceptions we have never been very good since my freshman year of 1961. However, again with few exceptions [Dodge comes to mind] ,we have never been this bad, and going forward the transfer portal and NIL certainly won't help. I can only hope for a better season than projected.2 points

*looks at provided picture* Ahh very interesting. I can confirm that IS a football field, which UNT also happens to have one2 points

What stands out to me is that here you are, on a fan board of a team/school you don’t care about, don’t play and don’t even share a conference with anymore. Says a lot, doesn’t it.2 points

Get those four teams in to our stadium (DATCU?) and see what our attendance would be.2 points

IMO this first game gets more important the closer it gets. New USA HFC Applewhite wants to show he's the real deal. Morris "needs" it to shut up those that doubt him. Then there is our former coach sitting at his favorite school in the job he has a proven record at....still counting all that Mean Green cash...lol2 points

When you bring in Tech, TCU, A&M, and sometimes Baylor you're going to have good attendance.2 points

You guys have had teams like Texas Tech, Texas A$M, Baylor, Okie State and heck TCU every other year. It's not a fair comparison. The best team we have ever had at home is Cal, Indiana and Houston? I was discussing the importance of this game for UNT and to my surprise my better half agreed to let me go if I can figure out a way to do it on the cheap. Is anybody interested in driving if I agree to split the gas? Also possibly sharing hotel rooms, preferably something like OYO with twin beds? We stay at those and they aren’t great but AC works and bed is decent.1 point

UNT has 5x the undergrads and they can't be bothered to walk across campus to watch a football game at a really nice and still new stadium. Says a lot doesn't it.1 point

Both this beer and the UNT whiskey is, and has been since last week, available at Applejacks on at Bell and Oak in Denton. Metzler's carries the beer only I believe. Now, I will go back in hibernation.1 point

Metzlers is owned by Roy Metzler...big time UNT and Mean Green supporter. And, who by the way, supplies and mans most of the alcohol venues at UNT events including Apogee. They do a ton of volume out of that "small barbeque place".1 point

I just talked about this yesterday. In July Ross told me that 2023 was the last year of the series, and he wasn't sure if it would continue. The matchup didn't seem like a priority last year considering the date it was played. This close to the season, if the series were to be renewed I would have imagined we'd have heard something by now. Disappointing to me, I was looking forward to taking over College Park Center with green.1 point

We've got 30 in our group coming from all over. Will it be just you or is your better half joining as well? I can add more people to our group for the same $13/ticket price. Where are y'all coming from? Feel free to PM me.1 point
