  1. Here's hoping that, at the end of the year, that looks like a genius decision.

  3. I'd never down vote you for having an opinion. And he seems okay to me, but Morris is our guy and we can't give up on him after one substandard season. I like Morris and do hope he can bring his defensive standard up to his offensive standard. Besides Barbay is also an air-raid guy, the offense probably wouldn't be that different, Again, the defense is our problem.

  4. Wardly, we never do or if we do it’s a usually in a negative contagion. Not sure we want to be a backfill for a reloaded MWC anyway, but your point is valid We are rarely in the conversation (even if it’s just message board fodder). Sorry to say, but our AD leadership has failed UNT for the last 30 years. Oh, sure they have done the bare minimum to get us where we are, but have not realized what could have been MHO. I’m hard on our AD (and will continue to be) because we pay a lot for its services and I want more for our investment.

  6. DENTON, Texas – UNT Athletics and Hochatown Distilling Company have announced the launch of Mean Green Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey. “We are thrilled to partner with Hochatown Distilling on the new Mean Green Reserve that showcases the UNT brand as they expand their growing footprint into Texas,” UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley said. “We got to experience first-hand the craftsmanship that Blue and his team put into every bourbon they distill and I know Mean Green Nation will enjoy it too.” Mean Green Reserve will be available in August in retailers across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Hochatown Distilling Company is distributed in Texas by Green Light Distribution. “It’s a privilege to partner with the University of North Texas,” said Tommy “Blue” McDaniel, founder and managing partner of Hochatown Distilling Company. “We look forward to contributing to the positive impact UNT has made in the region and are excited to bring top-tier products and experiences to their alumni, fans and customers.” Hochatown Distilling Company in Broken Bow, Okla. was formed in 2015 in the heart of southeastern Oklahoma with the goal of producing the finest quality spirits. The community of Hochatown has a long history of producing quality moonshines, aided by the pristine water of the Mt. Fork River and the security of the remote bottoms and hollers of the Kiamichi Mountains. More information on sales locations and tasting events will be announced soon. Sampling will be available at this Saturday’sMean Green Kickoff event set to begin at 5 pm in the HUB Club at DATCU Stadium. The collaboration between UNT and the Hochatown Distilling Company was created through athletic multimedia rights holder Mean Green Sports Properties, the locally based team of Learfield – the leading media and technology powering college athletics, and the Mean Green Reserve is licensed through licensing agency Affinity. --GMG--

  7. With all the alcohol partnerships coming up this season, I'm starting to think the AD is trying to prepare us for pain. 🫣

  8. You wanted us to hire a guy whose highest level of experience was 1 year as App State’s OC? Yikes.

  9. I was hoping for Herman or Fuente. I thought UNT needed a name hire this time around and not an up-and-comer. IIRC THE highest paid assistant in G5.

  10. For a university that has a very good marketing depart in their School of Business we seem to always be lost when it comes to a plan to successfully promote our athletic department. I got my BBA in 66' and have never understood why we flounder about in selling our athletics to Denton and DFW. Granted we went decades without financial support from our university presidents but that doesn't excuse our failure in the past 20+years .

  17. Would have preferred a “splashier” more sure thing hire than Morris when they moved on from Seth. Especially given we’d just played in the CUSA Championship game (“we don’t care how you get there folks, just get there”) Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t part of the selling points for Morris that he was taking less salary up front to have a larger assistant pool? Then hired Caponi at one of the highest assistant coach salaries in G5? All to watch the defense crash and burn - ruining the chances of a promising season otherwise? Can’t believe our fanbase isn’t fired up for the season.

  19. Having been a season ticket holder for around 50 years, I have forgotten a lot of things. However, I do remember this being attempted in the past. Not sure of exactly when or the details now, but maybe some of the "old timers" can help me out. I believe the current season ticket holders were asked to try and get 5 new ones from people they knew. Points were awarded and there were some prizes at the end, but I don't remember what. I believe the current season ticket holders were called "Ambassadors" or something similar. I don't recall if it involved all current season ticket holders or some who the AD chose to participate. Too much gone on since then to remember the specifics. I don't recall how successful the program was, but assume not very much so or it would have continued. Anyone remember this program that could add details? Also want to give out kudos to Hannah as others have. She has been very helpful to me and in contact often. I think she is the best head of the ticket office we have had!

  20. Hamilton Tiger-cats scout in attendance at open practice. I asked what we needed to do to get Mason back on the roster. He said he was surprised he wasn't on a team right now but there were a couple of injuries last week that may allow Mason to receive a call soon. Maybe he was just entertaining me.

  22. There should be a referral program in place for people to get their friends, family, neighbors, and former classmates to buy season tickets. The Athletic Dept should also have a table setup at every Alumni Association event in TX trying to get people to buy tickets. If the staffers aren't available, then reach out to Alum Association season tickets holders to staff the table. Offer them referral money or discounts off their next season's tickets for providing a contact that the actual AD ticket people can convert to a sold seat. I can also assume there's a lot of Denton area events like Jazz Fest, NT County Fair, etc that out ticket office could also man a booth at. Not sure why we're not one of the tents at places like the Byron Nelson or The Colonial, which both have tents from all sorts of people selling stuff a lot less fun than sporting events tickets. If anything, you're just trying to add names to a marketing list, if you convert those additions to 1 game or season tickets holders down the line and for many years to come, you were successful. Understanding the marketing funnel seems to escape our AD's abilities.

  25. I received a call today from the ticket office encouraging me to buy tickets. As an out-of-stater I can't justify buying season tickets, but I'll definitely try to get to a few games. I already bought Wyoming tickets. GMG

  26. This will certainly be locked, but I think there is a point to be made after the last discussion was closed before it could really be discussed. “It wasn’t something I intended to do,” Carini told La Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian newspaper. “Actually, I want to apologize to her and everyone else. I was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smoke.” “All this controversy makes me sad,” she said. Khelif, who is set to face Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori in Saturday’s quarterfinals, has not issued a public statement on the backlash. A genetically born female won the match. There's no discrepancy in that. Certain DNA issues are definitely relevant. Totally understand that. Both sides have a point to make. If I had a point to make, the response above is it. Let's stop being all or none. Black and white. Worst ever, best ever. Are we improving or worsening others lives or are we having true discussions on the state of our world? Be human today Be kind Be more than hate Discuss and banter, but see the word as something so much bigger than your opinion. If you cannot, then you are a fundamental problem. How do we do better? Someone's life was ruined yesterday through hate. Is that who we are?

  29. I had a flow of optimism this morning too. Strange but it came about thinking about college football showing up in a few short weeks. Thinking about roadies to plan and the launch of a Mean Green bourbon maybe got me excited too. Now Texas State being touted as a playoff dark horse. There is barely any energy and expectations around the Mean Green ‘24. Meaning if we beat Tech and or Wyoming in September and take care of SFA and Tulsa, we could have a glow into Halloween month. I still don’t know about SoBama but September still has some possibility to smile. GMG

  31. I wish you guys would spend less time critiquing each other's politics and more time figuring out how to get me excited about this football season. I feel like my balls are hanging low, and I don't want to go. For the last 24 years, I have been excited about tailgating. 🤒

  33. We did not need a substantial upgrade to the program. We were already on solid footing, but were told we needed someone else to take us to the next level. In no way were we portrayed as a failed program that needed to be rebuilt. It was going to be immediately onward and upward with the new coaching staff. We took a significant step backward IMHO. We were supposed to be competing for conference championships. Instead, we had a losing record in the first year and are now by most polls placed in the bottom half of our conference. By my analysis and grading last year, Morris was solidly in the bottom half of first year coaches in FBS. Swing and a miss by our AD at time when we needed to keep some semblance of positive momentum going. In terms of attractiveness as a realignment target we are 102 out of 133. Location is just about the only thing we have going for us. I don't think Morris will be here beyond year 3. Either he continues to lead us as a middle-of-the-pack program and send him on his way or he actually has major success this season and next and parlays that into a bigger gig. As a university, we need to tighten up our admission standards and improve our 4-year graduation rates.

  36. You order at the window. Wait is about 15 minutes. Go into East Side and grab that new NT beer (or beverage of choice) while you are waiting. They have a individual sized deep dish, one pizza type each day (Sunday it was a cheese and basil that was pretty awesome) or you can get their traditional rectangle slice with ingredient options. 38. It just seems like every time we upgrade conferences, something happens right after that diminishes the upgrade. With Morris, the same thing happened where we were supposed to make a big upgrade at head coach and it fell way short

  39. Definitely. Easily the least interested I’ve been in the team since I started following them in 1997. It’s impossible to keep up with the roster changes. No continuity. Used to it was fun speculating how your returning players could be added to from the high school ranks and developed. Now it’s all just a mercenary portal grab crapshoot.

  42. She got an outstanding deal. I paid hundreds each for the two that I have although the price for the second one was elevated due to it reportedly having been part of Larry McMurtry's personal collection. I have accumulated several items from the 1940's North Texas teams... Odus Mitchell's grave decorated on the 75th Anniversary of the 1946 Optimist Bowl ...but what I have never located is the elusive 1946 Optimist Bowl Program in which North Texas led by Odus Mitchell beat College of Pacific 14-13 in legendary coach Amos Alonzo Stagg's final game game of his illustrious career.

  45. Really have to stop with the crap about liberal arts. I was in the school of business, but literally all the rest of my tailgating crew was in some form of the arts or teaching. Common thread is that we all played sports growing up and care about sports. Most of those kids now go to “football” schools. I have no clue what we’re doing in the admissions department but I’m sure there is a certain profile that is more likely to be engaged on campus, with sports and that will end up as a donor. Start there if you want to see change.
