  1. Just watched WFAA news at 10 and they actually mentioned NT football because of AAC media day. Really surprised we were the only college team that got a mention. Even a little clip of Morris.

  5. Great leaper, only very old fans will remember. Strange thing, to my knowledge never dunked in a game. For those that don't know, the dunk was not allowed in NCAA basketball from 1967 to 1976 Leroy Winfield jumped center at 6'2" and probably had a vertical as good as Mangrum If you are talking about absolute best dunker ever at NT There is only one answer Tony Mitchell I am sure others have done this, but he is the only player I have ever seen that could dump two basketball with one jump Just jumping that high with a basketball in each hand is incredible. These threads always remind of the stupidity of former HC Tommy Newman Spud Webb had committed to NT's when coached by Bill Blakeley Blakeley was fired and Newman hired, and offer to Webb was withdrawn Webb became a star at North Carolina, and Newman went on to a 24-60 record at NT

  6. Must be a bunch of old men yelling at the clouds working for Nike now. I’ve read on this board for several years now that we have to wear the ridiculous uniforms or it will hurt recruiting. So now, in less than a year, uniforms don’t matter? So recruiting isn’t going to tank because we aren’t wearing all black or worse, gray?

  7. We had minimalistic uniforms in our past; and someone got fired for it, lol...

  9. Rod Brown is who I am assuming you are referring to when you state "we have a defensive tackle that goes 5-11..." He has been one of our most consistent players on the DL for the past two years. We still have Vailea and added VJ Bronson from Arkansas St. and some size in the freshman class. I think the biggest change is our DE's are now true DE size.

  10. This is exactly what it is. Every rule/policy being implemented helps the well to do programs, and we have UNT people coming on here, all drooling at the mouth and what not, agreeing with the complete destruction of collegiate athletics.

  11. Reminds me of the old days, prior to 1973, when schools like UT would have 150+ players and recruit many just to keep them away from other schools.

  12. Certainly can't disagree with Tony Mitchell. However, he was 6-8 with very large hands. I had the pleasure of watching Charles McMillan and Wayman Lister throughout their HS (SOC), Juco (McMillian) and NTSU careers. At only 6-3/6-4, they were dunking legends in Dallas area HS history. Unfortunately, NT fans didn't see much back in the mid 70's because they were reserves on the most talented rosters (top to bottom) ever. Lister was Player of the Year in Texas and McMillian was 1st Team All State and a Juco All-American. I see that this question has been posed previously:

  16. My issue is that every Nike team has the same uni. Copy/paste the template then add a logo to the collar. I liked the subtly of the previous green jerseys. Mean Green across the front with a feather design in the numbers which only really becomes notable on close ups. If the only thing that changed was the color going to Kelly Green, I would have given this an A++. Overall, they’re fine. But like you said, establish an identity and stick with it. If they’re going to stick with this color/style for a while, I’m cool with that.

  24. This isn’t Todd Dodge taking over for Darrell Dickey or Seth Littrell taking over for Dan McCarney. He took over from an offense first coach. I don’t see where the appreciable difference is between him and his predecessor other than Chandler Rogers ability to run and pass. That ability left for Cal to meet up with a very good O-line coach we used to have. Where is the hope for the future? This guy is no better than Littrell and the fact that he is less committed to this program than Littrell ever was shows he is worse other than having the “new” label associated with him.

  25. This is Morris's year to prove his coaching ability. Win 6 or more he stays. That defense is the big question. Hope it doesn't bite him in his arse but if it does it will be his own fault.

  26. Latest on OSU/WSU vs MWC. From the MWC board and The Athletic: https://www.mwcboard.com/index.php?/topic/92358-conference-realignment-thread/page/1822/#comments .............................................................. Basically a rehash that corroborates what Dodd has already reported. Here are some excerpts: Last December, the parties agreed to a one-year football scheduling agreement, helping the Beavers and Cougars secure six additional Mountain West opponents for their 2024 football schedules in exchange for more than $14 million. …. Both sides say an agreement on a 2025 football schedule needs to happen before the 2024 season kicks off. So will it? “I’m pretty confident,” Mountain West commissioner Gloria Nevarez said. “You never know with how contracting goes. It was built in anticipation as a two-year schedule. Because that’s how you mitigate competitive inequities, and we figure if we’re going to do it, it’s easier to do two. It’s not for any reason except for we had to get through June meetings, then July gets kind of quiet. (Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould) and I have been talking, and it’s just been a phone tag thing.” … “We’ll have to see if everything falls into place or we explore a different path for that second year,” new Washington State athletic director Anne McCoy said, “or if everything goes forward with the Mountain West.” Big picture, Oregon State and Washington State want to buy as much time as possible and see what happens elsewhere — perhaps, say, if Florida State and Clemson try to officially leave the ACC, that league might explore getting back to 17 members. Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes told The Athletic earlier this year that joining a Power 4 conference is the top priority, followed by some merger with the Mountain West. “It’s important to get the time to see where the landscape is going,” said Oregon State executive deputy athletic director Brent Blaylock, who represented OSU at the Vegas event. “We’ve seen the volatility of how things change. We know some of the other friction points going on in other places. So it’s important for us to just stay abreast of what’s going on.” The Mountain West, meanwhile, feels more emboldened than it did a year ago and doesn’t appreciate the image of being a backup option. The introduction of a 12-team CFP means the Mountain West champion has a path to the Playoff for the foreseeable future, while the Pac-2 can only receive an at-large berth, and the CFP deal with ESPN runs through 2032. The Mountain West also got six teams into this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament. It won’t beg for two more members. “When I first started (as commissioner), everyone was growing to 14, 16, and I thought maybe that’s where we need to be,” Nevarez said. “I’m not seeing a need now. Certainly if there’s an opportunity to make us better, I would absolutely chase that down. But I’m feeling pretty good about where we are.” … What does hang over the Mountain West is its television deal, which recently added TNT Sports as a third partner and runs through 2025-26. That coincidentally times up with the Pac-2’s window. It’d be an easy moment to make an addition. But what about departures? The Mountain West office has maintained that its exit fee ($18 million, or $36 million for schools leaving within a year) applies regardless of the TV situation, something that was brought up last summer when San Diego State danced with the idea of leaving the league. Any attempt by Oregon State and Washington State to pull Group of 5 teams from multiple conferences would be very expensive, even with a $255 million war chest leftover from the Pac-12. The football agreement signed last year lays out that adding one Mountain West school would cost the Pac-2 $10 million. Adding six schools would cost $67.5 million; 11 schools would cost $137.5 million, not including their exit fees for leaving the MW. But adding all 12 would cost nothing. The league held firm in putting that deal together, protecting everyone. The one wild-card scenario is dissolving the Mountain West, which would require nine of 12 schools voting in favor and therefore removing any exit fees. That possibility has not garnered enough votes to be an option, especially given the open desire of the Pac-2 schools to land elsewhere. Oregon State and Washington State will chart their future amid plenty of internal change. Football coach Jonathan Smith and highly-touted quarterback Aidan Chiles left Oregon State for Michigan State, and star running back Damien Martinez went to Miami (Fla.). Washington State athletic director Pat Chun left for Washington, and talented quarterback Cam Ward went to Miami. Influential president Kirk Schulz will retire next June. That turnover has made a difficult situation even tougher. No one associated with the Pac-2 [at the league’s media event in Las Vegas] could say what the future holds …

  29. Ever even imagine that it might take a coach more than one year to substantially upgrade a football program? How do you support your contention that Morris is less committed to the program than Littrell? One, I have never believed the Kansas offer that Littrell supposedly turned down was anymore than his agent's ploy for getting Littrell a better contract. Two, I am not sure how you can compare pre-NIL coaches with coaches that must deal with massive turnover every year. You are giving credit to the offensive line coach for Rogers' success, yet are ignoring the HC and Offensive coordinator that create the game plans that allowed Rogers to be successful. Morris may not be successful at NT, that is an unknown for most that don't have the football clairvoyance that you possess. I think Morris had an adequate first year coaching, and I am looking forward to next year. The new season will provide a much superior basis for evaluating Morris as a HC.

  30. Allows them to easily go to the football games. When referring to NT, I have little doubt that student attendance would be much lower if the stadium was more than a short walk away from campus.

  31. IMHO, if we want to establish an identity, then we must have an identifiable look/uniform. A tricked up version is fine on occasion, but the green/white combos for this year look great and represent what North Texas is. The Mean Green. With the additional exposure on TV, it is vitally important. I'd wager it helps promote marketing as well. Let the apparel companies mix up color schemes if they want and see if they sell or not. But with uniforms, stick with the basics. That way, when people are channel surfing games they'll come across ours and say, "Hey! There's North Texas!" Again, just MHO.

  36. The only pieces they have are apparently unlimited funding and a horrible reputation. Not sure what benefit a big Greek presence provides. Again, that deep football history is mostly of cheating. They were a member of the SWC, and had some great players during that period; but the big dogs of the conference chose not to be associated with them. Before some react, I have been a student in their MBA program and actually enjoyed the school. However, IMO it is far from an elite academic institution. If they had all the pieces, they would not have joined a conference where their closest athletic member is over 2000 miles from University Park.

  38. I have an honest question regarding Kamala Harris that I will preface with the facts below: 1. She was so disliked in the Democratic Party that she was the first candidate to drop out of the '20 primary with single digit approval ratings. 2. A year ago, media members were questioning the Democratic Party about potentially replacing her on the '24 ticket because of her ineffectiveness, etc... So, how did she become so popular in the last 4 or 5 days? Is she really the best the Democrats have to offer?
