  1. Update, we are now on four social media platforms, please follow us/join if you have accounts on any: Facebook group Twitter Instagram LinkedIn I have been working on coordinating group outings for the games on Labor Day Weekend at South Alabama, 9/14 at Texas Tech, and Friday 11/15 at UTSA. I am not meaning to compete with the UNT Ticket Office, but there is no real effort from the AD to get a lot of people to the road games. Plus, the opposing schools pass along their standard ticket price which makes it a harder sell for UNT. For example, tickets in the worst sections through UNT go for $37 at UTSA, and $45 at FAU or Memphis. So for those interested, I'm trying to buy our initial block of tickets ASAP for Tech and UTSA. South Alabama group tickets start selling on August 1. Saturday, 8/31 at South Alabama (Labor Day Weekend on the Coast) Infantry tickets: $13 ($20 standard price, $23 through UNT) Interest form: https://forms.gle/UzitbcpzoetygGfg8 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/20vtYbKkf Saturday, 9/14 at Texas Tech Infantry tickets: $27.50 or $37.50 ($30 or $45 standard price, $35 through UNT for corner sections) Interest form: https://forms.gle/973D8Ywq3RLEmETb9 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/1sJ6oKSeu Friday, 11/15 at UTSA Infantry tickets: $17-$31 ($18-$32 standard price, $37 through UNT for corner sections) Interest form: https://forms.gle/NxbVGJBST5ds2x5i6 FB event page: https://fb.me/e/2cYLmHJ08 I'm coordinating with the alumni chapter in San Antonio to make it a big event in November. There are also talks with the Houston alumni chapter to promote not only UTSA but the South Alabama game, now since Charles Barkley has made Galveston's dirty beaches known nationwide lmao. And reminder this is not only for football. Our group outings started with basketball season last year. I also want to encourage folks going to the Tech game to support the soccer ladies on Sunday the 15th at Abilene Christian on their way home. I have not pitched this to the Houston alumni chapter yet, but October 11th-13th provides a great opportunity to get folks engaged with volleyball at Rice Friday, a chance for an FAU watch party Saturday, and women's soccer at Rice Sunday.

  10. I see “you missed an FBS”, “UNT?”, “North Texas?” And a quote “no UNT. Ouch.” you and I have different definitions of “absolutely torching.” I would call that an observation. An embarrassing fact, but the comments aren’t torching us.

A pennant, probably from the inaugural January 1, 1948 Salad Bowl football game matching North Texas vs Nevada is one of this year's birthday gifts. It will pair well with the 1948 Salad Bowl football programs that she has gifted to me.

  16. According to the ECU Press Release he was the leading rebounder in Texas 6A. Smith led the 6A level of Texas High School basketball in rebounding two straight years. He brought in 855 career rebounds, 353 in a single season, and 26 in one game. All are school records. Smith was named an 8-6A First Team All-District selection. ECU picks up commitment from three-star big Baron Smith Jr. (247sports.com)

  17. My interest in football is definitely waning. I’ve had the magazine since mid-June and I’ve only skimmed it a couple of times. For the first time in close to 40 years, I don’t have much of a desire to read it.

  18. Great find. Those extremely rare ceramic statues were cast in 1949 by Adah Art Studios of Dallas. (I only know of 4 remaining in existence) They were based on a cartoon of North Texas coach Odus Mitchell that Bill McClanahan had previously written for the Dallas Morning News. That statue was subsequently the basis for the rare 1960's plaster NTSU bobbleheads that were made in Japan. NTSU Bobblehead on ebay Here's the Bill McClanahan eagle used later in an NTSU decal.

  20. AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti on Memphis' goal of leaving conference (commercialappeal.com) CA: The AAC recently added Army as a football-only member after SMU left for the ACC. Are there any discussions about adding another non-football member to replace SMU's other sports? Pernetti: There are many active discussions going on right now about membership. And I think we will be proactive and aggressive related to what we think are good opportunities in the space for the conference. And I've been really encouraged by the inbound outreach that I've gotten from some institutions in the industry wanting to learn more about what we're doing, where we're headed and explaining to us why it's interesting.

  21. I have said from the moment Morris was hired, his recruiting style would lead to devastating results. Obviously this is just one poll, but the trend he has lead throughout the past 2 years has led exactly into my expectations for him. Thoughts?

  23. Please see the recent "Big Mountain " podcast where the narrators discuss the recent comments by President Schultz of WSU. He states that the goal is to put together the premier conference of the west coast. At present the PAC 2 as an agreement with the WCC for olympic sports thru 2025 , and with the MWC for football thru 2024 with a one year option for 2025. His feeling is that their path needs to be decided in early 2025 for scheduling purposes and media rights on a go forward basis. The take away message from the narrators perspective is that a merger between the PAC 2 and MWC is the best way to accomplish this.

  27. With zero points and an average rating of zero, we're among 3 teams tied for last in the AAC. That would still not be good in the SBC or C-USA. Our most recent class (2024) looks solid. If Isheem Young can keep his nose clean, I don't think people realize what kind of athlete he is. By the time the 2025 class closes up, I wouldn't be surprised to see us finish that class every bit as strong.

  28. NT now has 5 players signed/committed that are 6'9 or over. Sissoko, Newell, Lorient, Vice and Smith A lot of size and maybe not much quickness with the shortest players 6'1, 6'1, and 6'3. Other guards listed at 6'4, 6'5, 6'5, 6'6 and 6'6. Seems like a completely different team concept that NT is going to use versus the past. With only one player returning that was used much in Walker, it obviously a developmental team. I thrust that NT will still be a defense first team, but how that works with this very tall squad will be interesting.

  32. Yes, we need to distance ourselves from the SBC, MAC, CUSA. This way if the P4 splits apart perhaps we could join the Tier 2 with them.

  33. No problem. I just looked at the roster and counted a total of 55 freshman and redshirt freshman on it. So needless to say, we are a really young team. We lost most of the players that Littrell recruited. If we suck this year, it's all on Morris.

  34. PAC, MWC, AAC should do some type of merger.
    1 point
  35. As I previously posted the financial penalties that OSU and WSU agreed to in order to get the MWC to schedule football games with them for the next two years would make it extremely punitive for them to cherry pick that conference for new members. Unless 9 of the existing MWC vote to dissolve the conference its all or nothing. I don't remember when the MWC media contract expires but that would allow its members to get a "get out of jail free " card. I think the PAC 2 has until the end of 2026 to add members according to the NCAA which is earlier than the MWC media contract expires but am not 100% sure. Also other than Colorado State and the AFC not a single school listed as a possible PAC 12 WEST brings much if any value to a new media contract for the new PAC.

  36. I've probably said it enough by this point but a revamped Pac-12 is my top choice as long as the media deal includes normal linear TV coverage and preferrably ESPN+ or Netflix for streaming as anything else would require me to invest in another service. Your second paragraph creates an interesting situation I haven't thought of much yet. I would assume the first three that OSU/WSU would want would be Boise, San Diego State, and UNLV. Then maybe CSU, Fresno, and Nevada? If it's those 6, then I think that still gives the AAC a good mix of markets and quaity programs to go after: New Mexico, Air Force, Utah State, Wyoming, San Jose State and possibly UTEP as a connector to the more western schools. However, I don't think those teams will move the needle much for The American when it comes to national interest. And even if those schools were to accept invites to The American, I think it would be a temporary move while they position themselves to move up to the new Pac-12. If the P2 take the best six MWC schools, the MWC could also backfill with the FCS powerhouses from the Dakotas, Idaho, and Montana which due to travel could convince the leftovers to stay. Like we both said, I think a new Pac-12 is the best option for us. OSU, Wazzou, SDSU, Boise, UNLV, and Fresno in the West, UNT, UTSA, Colorado State, New Mexico, Rice, UTEP in the East. (Nevada and/or Utah State, Air Force and/or Wyoming if there was interest in a 14-16 team conference).

  37. They cancelled out Navy. Now without SMU but with Army, we have 14 football schools and 13 basketball (and most other Olympic sport schools). In my opinion, we should be selective with any new programs that bring football. We're already a conference with a random allotment of schools with few big rivalries. Market size should be lower on the priority list for future expansion, with more focus on competiveness of programs and potential to create more rivalries or reignite old ones. If we focus on expanding the Olympic sport-only programs, I think we should go east and target some of the A-10 schools. If we are looking for schools that will bring all sports, look west, and try to grab up some quality MWC programs before they give any life to a rebirthed Pac-12 (if we aren't invited to it).

  38. Memphis' stadium is not on campus. USF's stadium has been pushed to 2027, if then. It is similar looking to Apogee (DATCU), 35,000 seats, but will cost more that $340 Million, as of 2023 $.

  39. FX is becoming to Memphis what Nike is to Oregon. USF is spending a fortune on its new stadium complex . The Memphis market isn't that large but Tampa is.
    1 point
  40. At the end of the day, in my opinion, only 2 programs have a chance to move up, and probably only if the ACC implodes. Memphis and USF. Tulane is just a smaller SMU without as much money and New Orleans only newspaper doesn't even publish every day. Future conference additions must be able to increase media money to a existing conferences members annual payout at a minimum. OSU and WSU couldn't, and were left behind.
