  2. Well, with a proven 1,000 yard receiver in Maclin catching balls and a proven 1,000 yard rusher in Adeyi taking handoffs, Rogers will certainly have weapons to choose from this season. So much to look forward to!

  3. For real though, even with this signing, I’m assuming QB1 is Rogers’ to lose, right?

  4. I will use Stanford as an example for Rice. Rice has about 4,800 undergrads, plus very high academics. Stanford has 7,800 undergrads, plus very high academics. But Stanford excels in Athletics too... Stanford's program has won 136 NCAA team championships, the most of any university. Stanford has won at least one NCAA team championship each academic year for 48 consecutive years, starting in 1976–77 and continuing through 2023–24. Through January 2024, Stanford athletes have won 552 individual NCAA titles. Stanford has won 26 of the 29 NACDA Directors' Cups, awarded annually to the most successful overall college sports program in the nation, including 25 consecutive Cups from 1994–95 through 2018–19. 177 Stanford-affiliated athletes have won a total of 296 Summer Olympic medals (150 gold, 79 silver, 67 bronze), including 26 medals at the 2020 Tokyo games

  7. I live next to Rice and used to attend games regularly. I used to question why they did not spend more of their massive endowment on sports. I realize now they got it right. “Big Time” college sports or the dream of getting there is now dead for almost every program. Rice focused on academics instead. Now they are the best University in Texas and also world renowned. For most schools they are neither academically or athletically special. Rice chose academics and won. What’s more, they have right-sized athletic facilities (football withstanding) that well serve their student athletes. It’s just at Rice they are students first and have to make the grade. Rice got it right

  8. How would getting in for next year make sense? What if your entire team is different and has a terrible season? You get in in from what a team last year did that isn't around anymore? Why play the season if your already qualified? This makes things too messy.

  9. If you look at my post history, I've been talking about how he needed to be gone long ago. Nobody told him to give that buffoon Dana that stupid extension, keep the baseball coach for no reason among other things.

  10. You can commit to both high level athletics and academics. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive and Rice has the means to do it. Rice has chosen not to do it for whatever reason.

  11. Actually, I really like his video. This is the type of player that is now getting lost in the shuffle due to the transfer portal. Good pick-up.

  13. The NIT has already said in order to stay financially viable and fight off other tournaments, they will change selection to include more "name" power programs. Programs that will fill arenas with fans, and get more media views.

  14. In the Pre- apocalyptic world all G5 and bottom feeder P4s should be considered about equal. Every year will be a rebuild year with too many unknowns to rank teams before several games into the season.

  15. Don't laugh. During the Corkey Nelson era, "Shanda's Bail Bonds" used to do a fly over banner at the games.

  16. A speculative post based on Stone “Liking” an X post about some coach at Central Mizzou getting a promotion or something. Got it. Care to wager on those two possible outcomes?

  17. what does "remain in the picture" mean for Rice? Middle of the pack in the AAC when they could easily be the best G5 program in the country given their location, resources, etc. Rice has chosen their path but they could've easily been Stanford or Northwestern. Oh well.

  19. With the big dogs having greater access to NIL money the separation between "haves" and "have nots"will become even greater. However we will continue to schedule each other as they need a "W" and we need at least one money game. Regarding Texas State, they ranked higher because they have a much better team As you know we passed on hiring their new coach last year. On another note I saw Trey Smith AAC podcast where he discussed the PAC 2 possibility thinking outside the box and reaching out to UTSA, Tulane, USF, and Memphis as possible new members. I give this less than a zero chance of happening but once again we are shaded by UTSA who has admittedly done an excellent job in building a football program while UNT continues to struggle.

  20. No. Schools, players, and fans always want to play the best, even if odds are against them. When we were in 1-AA and played at Texas in 1988 it was the highlight game of the season. Same for most P5 games on our schedules. You want to see your program compete with the big dogs.

  22. You act as if the semantics of saying we “still play in the same division of football as the SEC and Big 10” makes a difference. We are no more, or less, irrelevant if we finally face reality and break away to play with our actual peers. If we broke away, we would never play for a national championship…and if we stay where we are, we will NEVER play for a national championship.

  23. I never understand why folks covet being in a league with them. Don't give me the Academics stuff. Academics mean nothing in the scheme of things......any more. Their facilities suck. And they travel worse than any school in the nation. Of all the times we've played them in basketball.....I don't think I've ever seen a fan of theirs at the Pit. They bring nobody to Denton for football or basketball. And didn't look like other than cheerleaders, they took anyone to FW for the hoops tourney. And yet.....when there are new conference configurations put together.....some times they're included...and we're not. Boggles the mind.

  24. I don't agree. Athletics at our level is pure marketing for the school. I never hear Rice mentioned, athletically or academically. Duke, yes. Rice, no. If they won't support athletics correctly, then they should just drop to DIII and stop pretending to be competitive even in the AAC, because they are not.

  30. Anyone with any insight on if he has a chance of challenging Rogers for the starting position?
    1 point
  31. Yes, and I do it to support the program and to make sure I can sit next to my friends in the best seat possible. I don't do it to get the best deal possible. I know there are going to be a few games each year when the athletic department is going to discount tickets to sell as many as possible. And guess what? I don't care. I hope they're doing everything they can to increase attendance. If it bothers some of y'all so much then buy cheaper season tickets or don't buy them at all. There's nothing stopping you from getting the discounted price for a single game ticket.

  33. Yes. I thought for a moment I was in Lubbock. K-St. has a rabid fan base but I didn't their pockets went that deep. Programs like UNT don't have a chance to compete with programs that have this type of money. In my opinion the G6 conferences need to separate themselves from the P4 programs and try to establish their own NIL guidelines. I am not an attorney and don't know if conferences can legally cap NIL payouts. If it could be done then you could establish a maximum amount each school is allowed to distribute as well as to which sports in an effort to maintain some semblance of a level playing field. In addition, while it may seem far fetched now, I would explore the possibility of selling naming rights to our athletic program such as we have done at our football stadium. If the BIG 12 does partner with Allstate Insurance and become the Allstate 12 Athletic Conference, which is estimated to bring $5 million annually to each member, then either the American Athletic Conference should follow suit or allow its members to individually explore their options. It's a brave new world and every school needs to be thinking outside of the box for ways to drastically increase revenues if they want to survive .

  34. How could they predict any team. Half our team hasn't played together before. Probably similar to the others as well.

  38. He could have stayed in the portal last December, since he was on track to graduate in May or, due to the injunction against NCAA, jumped to ACU or SHSU in Jan. Once Chandler M. got paid to come here, he was penciled in as QB1 this fall—“follow the money” is how NIL and the portal work—Stone should have known he had been lied to. He apparently figured it out in the past week and bailed. I feel for him. And unless both he and the UNT staff were to want and agree for his return this summer, or his dad were Texas’ AG, I’m afraid it’s D3 or sit out this fall.

  39. Not his fault he had that opportunity. That decision made by a one Eric Morris cost us that game and a bowl.

  40. NLI at ETSU is being funded by the Clampett family fortune (acquired from bubbling crude). There is a lot of cash flowing in from an account at the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills. The team doctor is old school and she has a tonic that enhances their performance. I wouldn't count them out if I were you.
