I don’t care about uniforms. Just win! Correction. On further review, I would take issue with the Darrell Dickey all black uniforms.5 points

It used to be fun to follow the player acquisition process. I’d pay attention to who we were offering. If a DFW kid committed to North Texas, I’d jump in the car on a Friday night and watch his high school game. I’d scour his Rivals.com highlights too and follow his senior season in the papers. The player was going to be a Mean Green Eagle. Just like me. Maybe he’d have some of the same professors I did and hang out at the same places I used to? I’d invest in learning about him and would follow his career and development for four years. I’d show up to the Spring game to see who looked good. The transfer portal ruined all that for me. It is just too much to track and the payoff isn’t enough. Plus, most of the player movement news at North Texas is that my favorite player is leaving. I’m still a season ticket holder. I give to NIL and MGSF. I’ll show up with my family to every game we can. But I don’t know who these guys are who play for my school now. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is at the printer and these guys are still coming and going. It is pointless to follow all this movement. Wake me up when the season starts and tell me who our guys are.5 points

Although the Rice Owls football team's home has already undergone improvements, Rice school administrators have stated that some significant changes are now required. With the help of a sports design firm, the institution finished a facilities master plan last year that addressed the 1950s building. The Houston Business Journal was informed more recently by Tommy McClelland, Rice's director of athletics, that a "transformational" overhaul is required for the deteriorating stadium. "We're looking at whatever it takes. Our approach is we have to do something drastic. ... Just putting new paint on what we have is not what we're looking at," McClelland told HBJ's Chandler France. While the university has made some renovations, such as upgrading seating and adding new spaces over the past two offseasons, a more extensive project has been postponed despite being a priority for athletic officials. Joe Karlgaard, the previous director of athletics, had hoped to oversee a major renovation of the 70,000-seat stadium before his departure in August 2023. Rice had approved a design for a major renovation project in 2022, but that plan was put on hold. The project aimed to reduce the stadium's capacity instead of building a new one, aligning it with other teams in the American Athletic Conference, which the school joined in July. read more: https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/rice-university-stadium-19518306.php?utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=facebook.com&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0GOACiCfLSdtPF7ShNfnw4seQzzuj18gAKjh0KcUOeJzZAqLW2jqShlOE_aem_VNgLnj9bcfTt9bpEewOIEw3 points

An always (to me) interesting topic; Rating the NT head coaches Keep happy and at NT Delong-Softball Burton-WBB Akers-Women Golf Hedlund-Soccer Jury still out Hodge-MBB I am happy with his results thus far, hard to judge with the horrible NIL situation Morris-Football Have liked his coaching of the offensive side, think he will improve the defense Calcatera-Men Golf New hire Stone-Women Tennis It was past time for a change, and she is a good choice Marshall-Track, CC Great start, I have little doubt the track team will continue to get better under his leadership Porter-Volleyball Definitely elevated the program over the prior coach, want to see who she recruits as she loses some good-to-great players Questionable Roth-Women Swimming She is still here despite mediocre results, there has to be a rationale (ie: poor facilities to recruit to, desire to spend as little as possible on this team, etc.) She could be doing an excellent job considering these factors2 points

I think these are “fine.” They’re not going to get anyone hyped, but they’re not going to turn anyone away either. My personal thoughts, even though I know I’m in the minority, is to trick up the uniforms. The free pub you get for unique uniforms seems worth changing them up to me.2 points

I understand the "clean" look, but once again, we failed at using one of the best names (Mean Green) on our uniforms. Not sure what's on the back, but I hope there are no player's names.2 points

Also, does this mean home uniform is only green shirt white pants? I'd like that change. For some reason I don't like the green shirt on green pants combo. Also, with the controversial take, I did like some of the black uniform combos. But this looks pretty clean and I like it...again, just sad about pinstripes on the pants.2 points

two thoughts... 1.)i mostly like the look (i could do without the shoulder/arm stripes) 2.)Is there a simple photo of the uniforms, and not a seizure inducing video (I know this is an old man talking here)2 points

The article first mentions required renovations (due to declining condition) and reducing capacity instead of building new. Then thoughts switch to perhaps a (new?) multi-use stadium and accepting naming-donors without much details on either. I don't think they know what they want to do, and really don't want to do either. Back in the 1950's when this stadium was built Rice was a power program in the Country and SWC. They rivaled the Texas program of today in attendance and media. They have been falling ever since to a shadow of a program and attendance. I wouldn't be surprised to see them end football in this NIL era.2 points

Not at present, but when they receive NIL pay from the school they should be. Why don't we just agree to disagree and see how things play out in the next few years if not sooner. At present its just speculation as to how players will be classified in the future. At age 81 I could be dead by then and it won't matter, at least to me. However, you could find yourself rooting for the HEB/UNT GREEN GROCERS football team trying to schedule a game with a member of the ALLSTATE 12 FOOTBALL CONFERENCE. Who knows?2 points

Earle told UNT he would stay and left. Same thing with Chandler Rogers. A man's word is all he has. What Earle did leaves UNT in a very bad predicament since the next guy in line is a unproven freshman from high school.2 points

I interpreted the top ranking as, Amazing coach! Demonstrated enough to keep him here the rest of his career. If this tier is simply, Yes! Keep him one or two more years. Then I am with you. What Burton did in one year is amazing.2 points

I am so turned off by the turn college sports has made. Sad, sad.2 points

Yes, this NIL is a great system if you think buying players should be the key to building successful programs. Recruit well and develop players so they can be bought by another team. Sounds like a fine basis to foster fair competition.2 points

When did this supposedly take place? The Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law by the board are included in the body of the article. He was reprimanded for an improper relationship but there is no reference to a minor or to "grooming". That incident was in the 80's. He gave up his license in 2006 voluntarily and he was not practicing in Texas or California at the time. If you bother reading up on the subject her allegations involve employment and she said he behaved properly during her time as a client. I have never heard of him "grooming a 16 year old client". That is a wild accusation and I would love to see a link to back up the claim. I don't understand why some of these threads are locked on here. There is a set of rules to follow, but it appears some with the power to lock them down just pick topics they don't like instead of letting people discuss the issue.1 point
-
But felt the need to make an entirely new thread from a locked one so we can totally all know that he didn't lose his license from grooming a 16 year old client? Which is totally not why he lost his license, btw.1 point

Great job, as usual Harry. BTW, have you considered a job within the Athletic dept? UNT could use a mover and shaker like you! Thanks for all you do.1 point

i am going to be that guy....but who cares if someone leaves. does not matter the reason. kids all come and go. do not get attached. some pan out, some do not. it does not matter. the team is gonna be the team in August. it all does not matter anymore1 point

No, it is not a "necessary evil". College football was just fine before this NIL bullsh*t.1 point

Been a Mean Green fan for well over 50 years. Like many of you I have green blood flowing in my veins. But I must admit that if I were to win a $500,000,000 (cash value) lotto I would not contribute or donate one cent to UNT Athletics under the current system in place. ( NIL, Portal) Not one cent.1 point

I also give to the collectives and would like my money back from every athlete that transferred. I know it doesn’t work that way though. After losing ALMOST all of our good players from the football team AND basketball team to the transfer portal, I do question why I continue to give to the collectives. The answer, I guess, is that maybe it helps us attract new players to replace the good players that we used to have who left us through the portal. That is the only reason I am still giving. Anyone have any other reasons to help justify it?1 point
-
I have given to Harry's collective as did others and still saw our roster decimated by other poaching schools. I realize this is a necessary evil, but it's discouraging to give hard earned money when an athlete is going to leave regardless.1 point
