I am saying he did not give up his license voluntarily and is garbage. I am done with this; take it however you like.3 points

Mosley is smart to not state how much money our collective has. You can’t give away that power in a negotiation. If Mosley said we had X dollars for NIL then any player we are targeting would know how much to ask for. And that player would probably ask for all of it. Or an established player would feel like he isn’t getting enough. And we can’t let our competition know how much we have, because that would make it even easier to target our players and our recruits. Mosley has a hard f-ing job right now. North Texas is in a very bad spot in the current college athletics landscape. But overall, the first year under Mosley was a success. He made a home run hire in women’s basketball and we WON the conference. Men’s basketball was competitive in the conference and won some postseason games with a new coach despite a really bad run of injuries. Football was underwhelming, but there is hope for the future. Mosley needs to be judged by the results on the field. And so far, those results have been pretty good.3 points

Considering that maybe 10% of the FBS programs have a shot at ever winning a national championship, this flood of NIL money will slow to a trickle. Donor fatigue is real. Purdue, Iowa, Oregon State, Duke etc etc etc. A long list of middling P5’s and all of the G5s will give up the dream of “moving up” whatever that means for each individual school. What’s more, being on top of the college football world is now meaningless. Am I excited for UT or OSU because they bought the best players? If I was an alum I may feint pride but it would feel more hollow than ever. This did not happen over night but the day is upon us to declare college sports dead. At least how we knew and loved it. There is nothing to love about trying to buy a title. Let’s put the focus back on education. Maybe that’s a silver lining.3 points

An always (to me) interesting topic; Rating the NT head coaches Keep happy and at NT Delong-Softball Burton-WBB Akers-Women Golf Hedlund-Soccer Jury still out Hodge-MBB I am happy with his results thus far, hard to judge with the horrible NIL situation Morris-Football Have liked his coaching of the offensive side, think he will improve the defense Calcatera-Men Golf New hire Stone-Women Tennis It was past time for a change, and she is a good choice Marshall-Track, CC Great start, I have little doubt the track team will continue to get better under his leadership Porter-Volleyball Definitely elevated the program over the prior coach, want to see who she recruits as she loses some good-to-great players Questionable Roth-Women Swimming She is still here despite mediocre results, there has to be a rationale (ie: poor facilities to recruit to, desire to spend as little as possible on this team, etc.) She could be doing an excellent job considering these factors2 points

The Mean Green Collective (MGC) has a primary focus on UNT basketball (both men's and women's). That said, if a donor wants to direct resources to other sports, we 100% will make that happen. Ernie Kuehne, Curtis Clinesmith and I are UNT alums who run the MGC and 100% of every dollar we receive goes to the players except for online banking transaction fees which allow our fans to donate simply and securely. We 100% self-fund the administration of this Collective and have 0% overhead. The other collective is Light the Tower, which was originally started by RV and is now being run by a group called TheLinkU. Light the Tower does primarily football but also other sports for UNT. I believe they are being run by University of Houston graduates and to my understanding they charge 20% of every dollar donated to their administration. Light the Tower or TheLinkU represents in some capacity the following schools: University of Houston, College of Charleston, Florida Atlantic, Texas State, UCLA, and South Alabama. TheLinkU appears to be an NIL aggregator and the more schools they can add to their group the more potential money they can make. I have not seen any aggregate numbers in terms of specific dollars raised for UNT players through this organization. We started the MGC back in Oct of last year and we were able to raise $225K in both large and small donations which had not been done at UNT before. We have distributed $200K of those funds as of today. We are proud of that, and we appreciate every donor who has and continues to support the MGC. As Ross Hodge shared with us just a couple of weeks ago, we would not have landed the new class of players without the MGC funding that was provided. That said, despite all the recent success UNT has had in basketball, it has still proven difficult to raise money in this NIL/Portal environment. The funny thing is, we run an NIL, and we really don't like the NIL system and what it is doing to college athletics. What was supposed to be a way to support the players and their families has become a pay-for-play scheme that the richest schools primarily benefit from. Despite our fundraising efforts, we could not compete with players receiving 600K, 400K, 150K... I don't blame them for taking that kind of life-changing money and I wish them well. The program will move forward and continue. I think Ross Hodge is a good coach and I am excited to see the new team he is building. Jason Burton is a big-time coach for women's basketball, and we expect him to do some remarkable things very quickly. Our efforts did, however, help us land an extremely competitive replacement group that some prognosticators believe could better position us in the coming season. So, the money we raised and provided for the players was not for naught. The NIL landscape has changed quite a bit since we started this, and I expect it will continue to evolve. Thanks to everyone who has and continues to support us and GMG!2 points

I think Burton is still in the second tier. NT has taught me to never judge a coach by one single season (McCarney), but especially their first. For the same reason, I cringe a bit at the posters who assume too much about Kinne's first year at TxState.2 points

Well technically hasn't UTSA been robbing people for years by charging money for useless paper degrees?2 points

This is great news. Get these NFL-lite programs away from the rest of us that want to watch amateur college football again. We don’t need to be playing teams that draw double or more our capacity for games, those who have budgets that make ours look like couch money.2 points

Maybe Stone knew that he wasn’t going to be able to compete with that incoming freshman?2 points

Earle didn't transfer earlier because he had not graduated to able to jump to ACU. That is why he was out and then back out and back out again. He had the intention last year to go but had to wait to graduate. Good luck to him and he is not playing for the money but for the love of the game. He wants to play.2 points

He voluntarily surrendered his license when he and Gary Dobbs opened Courtroom Sciences and he chose to no longer conduct private practice. I met him through work in the early 90's. Oprah hired he and Gary prior to her lawsuit with the Texas Ranchers. He won, she made him famous and he started his show. An easy Google search reveals that.1 point

True. He got in trouble in the 80’s for a client relationship. Met the conditions of having his practice supervised and then later decided to give up his license. Personally, I don’t care for him and didn’t when I saw him frequently. His personality on television is pretty close to it in real life. Loud and loves to be the center of attention.1 point

Ask Iowa if women’s basketball can move the needle. Or LSU. Or Baylor.1 point

So you are saying that: He and Gary Dobbs did not open Courtroom Sciences, He did not choose to give up private practice, UNT lifer did not meet him through work in the early 90's, He was not hired by Oprah for her lawsuit with Texas Ranchers, Oprah did not make him famous, He did not start his own show, and, He did not voluntarily surrender his license. Should I ever believe a UNT lifer claim in the future? While he may have been the subject of criticism by other Psychologists, he voluntarily gave up his license in Texas in 2006 and had not been practicing in Texas for years prior. California did not require him to have a license for his show.1 point

Yeah, at UNT (and most places), there are two sports that matter to fans. Football and men’s basketball. Anything else is gravy.1 point

If this has been talked about somewhere else, let me know. Other than athletes tweeting NIL deals, is there a list/website of local businesses supporting the school/athletes? I’d like to know where to spend money.1 point

On the Mean Green Sports site, under corporate sponsorship page (linked below) there is a tab on the far right labeled "partners". Then select hotel or restaurant to see those type sponsors. Not sure how updated it is. There should be many more and types as this is DFW...we need more businesses behind us! https://meangreensports.com/sports/2018/7/6/sponsorship-index-html1 point

Yes this will certainly be happening in the future, but at least the conference and networks will be ones to dictate the outcome as opposed to private equity. The PE guys are going to squeeze every ounce of water out of the Big 12 stone that they can and if you're an underperforming asset they are going to treat you like one. What's going to happen when the PE guys go to Iowa State, UCF, Baylor, UH or whoever and tell them "hey you guys have nowhere else to go. You want to stay in the P4? Prove it. No revenue unless you earn it on the field." Those sort of things will happen with PE if not far worse.1 point

He came to my daughters school to do some sort of special on "spotting the next school shooter". She said the editing for his show is nothing shot of miracle because of how much dementia this guy has. He's also a hack and a con, so it makes sense he'd support one for president.1 point

St. Bonaventure went 20-13 last year. UNI went 19-14. Utah State was 28-7....beating TCU in the NCAA tourney, then losing to Purdue.1 point

I realize that. To clarify my comment, these kids can earn money through marketing deals, etc. using their NIL, but can't just be paid to be a part of the team. The intent is for them to have the ability to earn money , not to guarantee an income because you are part of the team.1 point

Why would anybody donate to just to have players just come here for year then bounce? I wouldn't even put the players' names on the back of the jerseys...1 point

You mean that all that free stuff they received before was enough? But, how do they survive without NIL when they get free tuition, books, room, food, tutoring services, clothing, healthcare, workout facilities, nutritionist/dieticians, strength and conditioning coaches, etc... I think we pick one system or the other. One, is the old way. You get a scholarship that includes all the above and a small stipend for spending money. Or, you come, sign a NIL deal, make your money and pay for all that above.1 point

I think a financial statement should be provided to every doner that includes annual and YTD balances and how much is paid out and to whom. As a doner, I think I'm entitled to that information. Additionally, who makes the decision as to how much we pay a player? The coaches? The AD? Is the a cap as to the amount any one player can receive?1 point

If they are trying to be transparent why not tell us how much they raise? We need to know what impact our contributions are doing, not just throwing money into a void.1 point

No, it is not a "necessary evil". College football was just fine before this NIL bullsh*t.1 point

Been a Mean Green fan for well over 50 years. Like many of you I have green blood flowing in my veins. But I must admit that if I were to win a $500,000,000 (cash value) lotto I would not contribute or donate one cent to UNT Athletics under the current system in place. ( NIL, Portal) Not one cent.1 point
