The question that runs thru my mind is what happens to schools like ours for football and basketball? I mean, its very clear that the top levels could have as few as 24 schools up to 48, if you are only considering football. Add in college hoops and you'll add in some Big East schools and Gonzaga. So what happens below this? Does another level get created? Is it a level that is based on money, TV markets, school size, or all of them? Do SMU and TCU preclude UNT from being in this level of play again? If they cannot, do we finally get to be in a situation that is full of regional schools that we have always wanted to be aligned with in a conference? If they do, should we fold it up like so many have wanted in Denton for so long? That's what I am most interested to see what this future holds for our athletic teams. Let's face it. If we had the support that a school of our size should have had all of these years, then we don't deal with any of these issues. But we have not had that, as the strong majority just flat out doesn't care about our teams at all.3 points

3 because of the NIL and especially the portal. New roster every year. Best players moving on. No loyalty. I just can't get into college sports these days. I still love my school and hope they do well. But, I won't pay any attention to college games other than NT. Sadly, the only way there will be any change is when the network ratings for college sports starts to drop. This means the P4's. Attendance is already hurting.3 points

Just read in the DMNews.......that the league has agreed to keep the b-ball tourneys in Ft Worth..........through 2028. This is pretty big news....because I've got to figure a lot of the schools (Memphis and the Eastern ones)......would like to see it much closer to them. MU would like it in Memphis. So very happy that it's gonna stay here at Dickies Arena.2 points

There are some people speculating that another team will sign him. I've read Winnipeg might be interested. Hope they're right....and someone signs Mason:2 points

Look, this is it for me. My wife won’t allow the image of a ball, regardless of shape, in the house after we get home from a NT FB or BB game. Not proud of that, but that’s what I’ve got. So you’re damned right I’m excited about the up coming football season. 10 ? No. I give it an 11. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

The same number of great players, Dickerson, James, etc..., that would have signed with SMU without a paycheck, new car and coke fueled coed.1 point

If Chandler and Chad wanted to be a package deal why didn't that happen months ago? He might want to be in Denton more than he wanted Take Your Son to Work Day in San Marcos.1 point

I have news for everyone. Because of our "traditional" level of support and attendance at games, our players level of "care" or "loyalty" was always pretty minimal as it was. "Down the corridor of years" my observation of North Texas "fans" was that they were more likely to remember obscure Dallas Cowboy players than former (hard working) NT starters who never made it past their careers here at North Texas. Unless you were an Abner Haynes, Joe Green, Steve Ramsey, or maybe Cedric Hardman or Spider Lockhart, you were pretty much forgotten by the fan base. Loyalty is a two-way street.1 point

Now? 4. By they end of fall camp when we are world beaters again and a shoo-in for the conference championship game, I'll probably be up to a 4.5.1 point

Think she will do well there. A heck of a BB player, wish she would have been at NT for a longer period.1 point

The venue and tournament are well done, and Dickies Arena is a good venue. However attendance sucks, and will continue to do so until the tournament moves to a more geographically centered location.1 point

It isn’t doomsdayers though. Look around GMG alone. It’s just normal, committed fans that are being beaten into submission to the point of total apathy over all this. It’s horrible for the sport at large - and the Top Tier P4 programs won’t realize they’ve completely destroyed the sport and college athletics in general until it’s too late. Pure hubris. To your farm system idea. Just no.1 point

I think you are referring to the info contained in the "Readers added content" above. His 14 day statement and the added content statement are not mutually exclusive. As for the 88 days he says that is how long he had waited up to that point. You may not like RFK Jr. or his politics but he is no NAZI. Although he is to liberal for me I find him to be straightforward and honest in the interviews I have seen. As for the brain worm I think they usually die.1 point

Nope. I understand your intent, but I don’t want my school to ever be a lapdog “farm team” to any TCU or Baylor type program.1 point

Either way....I'm wrong. I guess the moccasins are Chatanooga. One of those Tenn. schools.1 point

How anyone could think either Trump or Biden are good people is beyond me. They’re both snakes. It’s a sad commentary on America when these are the choices for President.1 point
-
The problem with the current system and the state of affairs is that the best and brightest don't want to subject themselves to what it takes to run. As stated earlier, Trump's a blowhard narcissist and Biden is the useful idiot being played like a puppet. There are a number of people I would vote for, but they aren't running so I am left with a choice between the two above. I'll take mean tweets, low gas prices, enemies that don't step out of line, no wars, border security and putting our needs first over weak foreign policy, placating to every voting block out there, constant lies, terrible economy, record inflation, etc...1 point

The time has never been more ripe for someone like Ross Perot to jump in. The center was still occupied by both parties during Ross' time. It's been abandoned now.1 point

Until more people do this, things will remain the same. Not enough pain yet though.1 point

Great pickup from a ceiling perspective. Hasn’t been able to see the field because of injuries. If his knee is healthy, he could be great here. He hurt his knee at least twice, undergone surgery . Was the recipient of the Philip Rivers Award, given to the team’s top rookie… played in 12 contests, starting six games… credited with 36 tackles… logged 9.0 tackles for loss… led all ACC freshmen and with 4.5 sacks… tallied a career-best nine tackles in the win over Duke, including 1.5 TFLs… forced a pair of fumbles.1 point

Yes. But you also heard it about the B12 before that, and others before that. There's always something being speculated on. That doesn't mean any particular journalist or YouTube monkey knows anything.1 point

And if so by whom? It seems like all of this NIL stuff is happening at an inopportune time. We don't know if the new prez will be as supportive as Smatresk has been. Also I know nothing of Chancellor Michael Willams and his thoughts on athletics either.0 points

Apparently the basketball world does not agree, or he would have signed somewhere a little higher on the athletic food chain. He was primarily a starter at NT, but only averaged 7.1 pts and 2.1 rbs a game. You and I seem to have a big difference in our definition of what qualifies as a star.0 points

Call me crazy, but as the former top scorer at San Antonio and a starter here, I think had he stayed here, he would have been considered a star.0 points

NLI at ETSU is being funded by the Clampett family fortune (acquired from bubbling crude). There is a lot of cash flowing in from an account at the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills. The team doctor is old school and she has a tonic that enhances their performance. I wouldn't count them out if I were you.0 points
