We have to adjust to the circumstances or we are cowards. Don't forget the serenity prayer. Yes this NCAA thing and NIL is a mess but it will ultimately work its way out one way or another. The university has directed too much towards facilities and the programs to walk away. And I like what another poster said, let's band together with other G5 and sue the hell out of them. They all receive federal funding and any judge and jury would see this as monopolistic.5 points

What a great looking group to represent the team. A few of us keep an eye on the job they have done, repeatedly, for several years now. THANK YOU LADIES for all that you do !!! Check it out ... https://dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/4 points

I’m out at the Big 12 Baseball Tournament this week and we are all in the same boat. Kansas State, TCU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech are all going to run into the same issues we are. They have good but not huge fanbases. Their top talent will be poached by the two leagues. They will have connectivity issues between players and fans like we will. They will have trouble getting their fans to dump money into the black hole that is players salaries. We actually have a heck of a recruiting edge over many places and we need to use that leverage immediately: 1. Smoking business climate. 2. Top sports market in the country. 3. Countless cultural experiences. 4. Robust shopping nightlife scene. 5. Mild winters. 6. No state income tax. When this movement takes on a full throttle professional business model, UNT will be poised to compete and lure talent equal to those not in the SEC and Big. We will need to professional horses in the Athletic Department. But I like our potential. Live work and showcase in DTX, Stillwater, Albuquerque, Boston, Corvallis, Ames or Boca Raton. You can see how this could possibly play out. Yes, go in sell and fight. GMG4 points

Why don't the G5s work together and say "we're not paying....we didn't create this mess" and force the Power conferences to sue....P5s, state your case and convince a jury or the public you have a legitimate complaint. You don't.4 points

Apologize if a repeat but what a great guy. So glad he has this opportunity - he earned it.4 points

Such a great video! I had this conversation recently with a co coworker. Coworker : My cousin played for North Texas and then played for the Ravens. Me: Wait.. Is your cousin Zach Orr? Coworker: Yes! How do you know Zach?! Me: Yeah, I’m kind of a big UNT fan.4 points

But the UFL doesn’t have millions of built in fans (alumni and current students) like colleges do. And a G5 league would be played in the fall (football season). Would that guarantee success? Of course not, but I think it would guarantee that it’d be better than the UFL (which admittedly may not be saying much).4 points

I mean break away from the NCAA, there is no real reason they should stick around... they could break away and create a slightly different product that could potentially lead to a more fun game (maybe start with reducing game times below 4 hours/game.3 points

Some update. There's Mason watching some other guy I care nothing about throwing the ball.2 points

What has the NCAA done for UNT and where does it fit in the future. No way in hell should they be negotiating a financial commitment for UNT. You look at the NIL lawsuit and a lot of the claims could also be the same claims for G4’s. Combine and take legal action.2 points

I always thought we could never get him back here because he may enjoy the pro game too much…turns out we may have a chance with the NCAA now being the newest pro league2 points
-
That is a great idea. Most big schools wouldn't come knocking if we hadn't taken in a overlooked recruit and housed, educated, and developed his skill level. We should be compensated for that.2 points

Mason seems to be doing well in the competition to be back up QB for the Roughriders. KD Davis was released unfortunately. https://www.riderville.com/2024/05/22/crawford-helped-roughriders-rack-up-sacks-versus-winnipeg/1 point

Yes 👍🏻 they have been really consistent over the past few years and the future looks very bright based on some of their players being younger.1 point

Your opinion and I've got mine. P4's can be paid/professional....G5's can be traditional College Football Players on Scholarships. Professional versus Amature don't mix.1 point

That's the logical thing to do. But they aren't standing up for their stepping stone job and blacklist themselves from their dream of coaching/administrating at a p5. And that's why little vague comments on social media from these people faking outrage is beyond irrelevant.1 point

I tend to agree with you although live sports is still a valued commodity I don't know how a perceived minor league college football league would be viewed. It would essentially put us back to IAA1 point

If the G5 left, it might take time to get the TV revenue. I do think people will get tired of watching the same 30 teams on TV like it was in the 70’s and 80’s with only 2-3 channels showing games. the G5 would get a lot of demand quickly and people are used to being able to watch whatever game they want. Which may actually give the G5 leverage on a TV contract.1 point

Hell Yes, Jared Freaking Mosley!! Standing up. Finally someone is speaking up and out. Sick and tired of watching the greedy P5,4,2 destroy college athletics. This is what we've needed. At least fight back. Doesn't mean we win, but either start fighting this crap or just throw in the towel. I hope we fight back.1 point

I would rather have Jeff Wilson over a washed up Zeke. Jerry is a great business man but a terrible GM.1 point
-
I have my doubts about that premise. In every sport that got popular there was always money being made and people pushing the honor of amateurism to keep their costs low and profits high. The Olympics were supposed to be the peak of amateur sport and they've been rife with corruption.1 point

non-Power 4s are the athletic equivalent of the GOP. They learn about it after the deal is done. Then vote for it. GMG1 point

Cut Zeke and Sign Jeff Wilson. Jerry is incompetent as a GM though, so highly doubtful that happens.1 point

It seems the solution was the "alternate plan" that the P4s rejected. It seems we've been wanting an AD who would stand up for us rather than bending over and grabbing his ankles for the powers that be. He may not have the power to override the P4's decisions, but at least he's standing up and calling out their garbage.1 point
-
G5s can stop this BS. And at some point break with the Semi-Pro P4's and why play them. Heck...let the screwed up NCAA run the P4's and form our own governing body.1 point

I don't like it. But what he says is obviously true. This is not good for college football. Or basketball. Or most any other college sport.1 point

College football has always been a food chain. The problem now is the instant movement allowed every year for players with no sit-out for transfers. Maybe if the Texas Tech's, and other mid-P4's of FBS, start feeling the pain of having star players stolen then more restrictions will happen.1 point
-
Wow a sobering statement indeed. This has to be having an energy effect on most programs. Will college football actually become less popular? I mean the power programs say no way, never. I am not so sure about this. It won’t go as niche as golf. But investment works 2 ways. GMG1 point

DENTON, Texas – The UNT women’s basketball program received signatures from four established players who will join the Mean Green in the 2024-25 season. Guards Kyla Deck from Stephen F. Austin and Gia Adams from UTA will bolster the UNT backcourt, while the Mean Green will also welcome forwards Jaelyn Talley, who played two seasons at Stetson, and UTEP’s Adhel Tac. They will join Louisiana Tech transfer Amaya Brannon and high school signees Chania Price and Gwendlyn McGrew in UNT’s 2024 signing class. Jaelyn Talley I 6-0 I Forward I Fairfax, Va./Stetson Talley was the first of the four to commit and sign to Burton and the staff. The forward started 48 games and appeared in 54 over her freshman and sophomore seasons at Stetson. A ferocious offensive rebounder, Talley led the Atlantic Sun Conference with 111 offensive boards and ranked in the 98th percentile among Division I players in offensive rebounds per game as a sophomore. She averaged 8.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 47% from the field. During the 2022-23 season, she notched 10.2 points per game and grabbed 124 total rebounds. She scored in double figures 21 times as a true freshman, including a career-high 20 points against Queens (NC). Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Jaelyn is an important piece to this class. She brings a toughness that we need in a league as competitive as the American Athletic Conference. Her talent aligns with our vision of success for how we want to play, and I’m excited for her growth in our program.” Gia Adams I 5-7 I Guard I Cypress, Texas/UTA Adams will play her final season in Denton after spending two years at Tennessee State University and the 2023-24 campaign at UT Arlington where she was an All-WAC First Team honoree. A proven scorer who has averaged over 12 points per game in each of her three seasons will provide an instant scoring option in the backcourt for North Texas. During her lone season with the Lady Mavericks, Adams started all 33 games and averaged 14.5 points, 3.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Her 45.0 field goal percentage was the fourth best mark in the conference, while also shooting 37% on 3-point attempts and 82% at the free throw line. She dropped a season-high 30 points against California Baptist and also performed at a high level against Power Five opponents, scoring 20 points against Texas and 15 points at Colorado. Originally from Cypress, Texas, Adams ended up at Tennessee State for her first two collegiate seasons. She was named the 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals over 31 games. She became just the third TSU freshman to score at least 30 points in a 33-point outing against SIUE and the first player of any year in the program to do it since 2012. Her sophomore season saw her scoring increase to 14.1 points per game resulting in a Second Team All-OVC selection. Adams scored in double figures 20 times on the year, including five games where she produced at least 20 points. Adams will bring a load of experience to the UNT backcourt having played in 90 games and started 89 of them. She has scored over 1,200 points in her career, has 256 assists, 223 rebounds and 137 steals. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Gia is a special player that will bring speed, competitiveness, and a high level of work to our team. She is an electric player and person who values winning and relationships with her teammates and family. As a first-team all-conference player she will add great skill and experience to our team and back court.” Kyla Deck I 5-9 I Guard I Frisco, Texas/SFA Also joining the UNT backcourt will be metroplex native Kyla Deck. Out of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Deck played two seasons at SFA where she appeared in 64 games. After a solid freshman season that saw her average 6.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, Deck took a huge jump in the 2023-24 season. On top of the 12.2 points per game and 3.1 assists she averaged, Deck became a lockdown defender on the perimeter for the Ladyjacks. She finished the season in the 99th percentile and just outside the top-25 among all DI players with 2.6 steals per game. Deck dished out a career-high seven assists at UT Arlington and notched seven steals in the season opener against Oklahoma Panhandle State. She also flashed her offensive ability against Abilene Christian when she poured in 34 points on 70% shooting. Deck joins the North Texas program with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Kyla is a dynamic guard who is ready to hit the ground running. She is an elite defender, has a high basketball IQ, and can score at every level. Equally, she is a valuable addition to our program’s culture, and I know Mean Green nation will love the leadership she brings on and off the court.” Adhel Tac I 6-0 I Forward I Garland, Texas/UTEP Hailing from Sachse High School in Garland, Tac was tabbed a three-star prospect by ESPN and Prospects Nation. After a year at TCU that saw her log 55 minutes of action in 14 appearances, she transferred to UTEP where she has spent the last three seasons. Tac recorded her best season as a Miner in the 2022-23 campaign where she made 31 starts and averaged 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She led the team grabbing 194 rebounds and finished seventh in Conference USA in rebounds per game. Her 2023-24 season got cut short after suffering a season-ending injury in January. Prior to that, Tac was averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. She had converted 51% of her shots and was 7-of-13 from behind-the-arc on the year. Her sister, Acheil, played at UNT from 2012-16 and totaled 653 points and 554 rebounds in her career. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Adhel is excited to be back home, and it is always special to see players experience success on and off the floor in front of friends and family. Adhel is going to be a special part of our culture and she knows what it takes to win at this level. Her ability to play multiple positions is something our staff is looking forward to and we can’t wait for her to get on campus.”1 point
