I have no doubt, that NT's style of play; hurts recruiting. Many if not most of players, care more about their personal stats. than wins. With NIL and players going to the highest bidder, I believe it is even more important for NT to keep their defense first game. NT is not going to get the super stars or even be able to keep the players that they develop. Play solid defense first basketball and keep the slow game to grind out wins. Hodge does direct a quicker more offensive game than McCasland did in his era at NT.

Once they move on, we need to as well. Let's focus on the guys that WILL be here not the guys that choose to leave. That is the new college landscape. I don't care about what they do at whatever school they choose to go to. I care about the guys that are here. Again, it is going to be a year-to-year situation with most of these guys.

The athletic department goes after the same people with young non-proven fund raisers when we are sitting within the Dallas/ FW area not being courted for NEW CORPORATE DONARS. A- we need the AD to go out and find a rep that is worth his being paid the price to INCREASE OUR DONAR BASE and CORPORATE INVOLVEMENT!!!

Who are you comparing "Players these day" to? Never before has college players been paid and allowed to transfer each year. Don't know if kids today are any different than at any other time under the same circumstances.

He was not the same player his freshman year. I think Rubin is the standard for a developing player. His Frosh year, he was a source to eat minutes for the starters. Good on defense. He was not part of the offense. Soph year became part of the rotation, even handled the ball some. Jr year became starter, handled the ball a good bit, rebounded…..Sr year, he became the man. Added scoring to his game. Complete development of a player that got him a shot at Michigan. we need a Rubin in every recruiting class

Does he have what it takes to create a high performance team that generates interest and investment from the community, alumni and sponsors? Is there a major sponsor out there? The way Manchester City went from an also ran club to one of the top 4 teams in Europe, with Saudi money, is that investor out there? SMU does not pay any of my commitments. So do the new Virginia laws mean that all the NIL will be run thru the AD? Seems to makes sense and I think it will be adopted nationally. It doesn’t help having multiple entities calling on the same small group of alumni and fans for donations. Centralization makes sense here if you ask me.

I'll miss CJ. Those of you saying it's a "lateral move" have never been to a game in the Pit, or have any knowledge of the overall CBB landscape, with MWC basketball being a very respected conference. They have a rabid fanbase, and I'm willing to bet the bump in NIL is noticeable. The Pit is an incredible facility that I hope NT's new arena will be modeled after. I got to take in the NT victory over UNM back in McCasland's 2nd year. One of my favorite memories of NT Sports.

Word is the one in Dallas will give you comp tickets and money and you won't have to claim to be a fan for the first 9 years.

We definitely cater to a certain type of player: prioritizes team over self, willingness to play defense, prioritizes winning over personal stats.

TexasTech had a lot players enter the portal also. Mac can be tough on players and some may not like that and they can go somewhere else and play. What interesting on why Ruben is going MI is for the history. Hard to believe he would not even go through senior night here.

He's getting NIL $$$. Did Rooobien graduate from NT? He was a big part of changing our culture and putting our program on the map. I will miss seeing him in green and following his Mom on Twitter/X. I wish him well, but won't be following Michigan. Never been a fan of any of their programs.

Good luck to Rubin @ Michigan. Thanks for the memories. Just curious why he just didn't walk on at Michigan from Yates HS if he loved the history and family feel so much. Had a very good career at Yates but Michigan wasn't around when only UTEP, UNT and Nichols State came calling.

Don’t get me wrong I love Hodge’s defense and it has elevated us to a new level of success. I would not trade that. Can’t help but wonder if this defensive focus doesn’t lead to some of the defections? Most bball players want to play offense more than defense. The kid would have to be blind, stupid or both to think we had a baseball program, so I find it odd that Morris would sell that lie and mar his reputation with future recruits. Plus, blind, stupid or both are poor QB qualities. I think he fell behind and wants a place where he has the opportunity to also play baseball in the event his football career doesn't pan out, which at this rate, it appears to be occurring.

What new arena? Until the smoke clears and the P5 and G5 programs truly separate I would be very reluctant to spend millions on bricks and sticks if I am UNT. The 70 or so P5 programs are going to take most if not all the tv money with them when they go and basically the G5 programs will be gate revenue sports as well as a farm system for the rich and famous.

Lived in Albuquerque for many years. They are the only game in town and the fans show up for the games. You couldn't get a game for years. The last five years they were not good and the crowd thinned and tickets were available and attendance was way down. I sure if they are winning now they are drawing a crowd. UNM is truly a commuter school. They have a medical school and an engineering school. The campus is located in not a great area of town. Hope he finds happiness there.

They're a good basketball school and have been for some time. For that matter NMSU has some decent basketball tradition too, even if they had a down year.

Well, in Virgina schools have a direct hand in this. And make no mistake, other state legislators will vote this in until it's commonplace. They aren't letting their university be left behind.

You realize a funding increase for Athletics from the BOR will not include NIL funds? Those bribery funds have to come from donors or boosters outside the school. $mut has over 40 years experience (and a death penalty) with paying players. Our Athletic Department has always done little to inspire and cultivate our fan base and students. Much of our Athletic growth was spurred by our location and school size.

Unless you know a kid can come in and contribute right away, what is the benefit of signing guys out of high school. I think this really hurts recruiting at that level. Why develop them for someone else? The only players that will use the red shirt year will be ones at big schools getting paid nice NIL deals to sit the bench as insurance. Going to have to be able to adapt quickly to the new landscape in college athletics.
