Because our Tylor Perry transferred there for "greener NIL pastures" and they're now with us in the NIT. Abou Ousmane, who transferred to Xavier is also playing in the NIT. We would have won many more games, easily qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and probably made a very good run if both of those players remained at North Texas. They should have been star players on this years Cinderella team in the tourney, but have been relegated to the role of forgettable journeymen in mediocre seasons at their current schools. It's a high price to pay as they will both miss the tremendous exposure they would have received. Oh well.10 points

People who crap over the NIT are pretty lame. It's TOUGH to make the NCAAs. Even counting the NIT field, a much greater percentage of teams play in the postseason in basically every major North American sport. The NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all do. Obviously college football now has 40 something bowl games. I don't think people realize how almost impossible it is to get in the Big Dance. All but....8 or 9 leagues get in only a single team. And for conference that get in multiple bids, sometimes it's only two or three (even the vaunted Big East only got 3 this year!). Really only the top few leagues consistently get five or more.7 points

Was looking at some data for this game and found some interesting stats.. Robert Allen is statistically our most important player (ranking 1st in offense, 3rd on defense according to BPR). Buggs is 7th then there is a LARGE drop off to Stone/Sissoko. Best 5 man lineup? Edwards, Noland, Buggs, Jones, Allen. Worst? Edwards, Noland, Stone, Scott, Sissoko.6 points

Me neither. There's what, 80+ programs in the P6 conferences alone? They can't all be contenders. Mathematically many will have down years every year. Everyone should be excited for postseason ball. Bringing back the NIT Final Four to MSG I think would be a good first step in regaining some prestige with the tournament. Doubt many "general basketball fans" watched the games in Vegas last year.5 points

Sissoko has the ability, but he plays too nice. Somebody needs to piss him off prior to the game.4 points

What a terrible shot by JE. Makes the nice steal and just jacks up a contested 3. Come on, man3 points

I doubt Michael Jordan or Luka Doncic are starting on the bench. You put your best players on the floor to begin the game to set the tone and hopefully make the other team get concerned and play from behind.3 points

Some highlights from last year's NIT First Round. Hopefully the result is similar as we attempt to make another run.3 points

Was pleasantly surprised to see us make the NIT and it just shows how well respected we have become in basketball across the country. Someday perhaps football and other sports can also be well thought of.3 points

This respect is happening as a result of culture that has formed around this sport in our university. It’s so exciting. We get to play along with all those universities from big to small conferences while getting pumped for the upcoming hours and days. Thank you players, Coach Grant and Coach Hodge. If anyone wants to go, the whole arena appears to be general admission. The group rate starts at 20 people. That lowers the price per ticket from $16 to $10. I've already got about 8-10 in my circle that we're trying to grow.3 points

Ya know what no one is going to remember 5 years from now? The teams that opted out. They'll remember the champion, and maybe the ones that were selected (if they look it up). Ain't nobody gonna go looking for why UNT ended up getting to the NIT after having the NET that we do, and winning it the previous year and think, "huh, I guess those 'bigger' programs just didn't care..."3 points

Anyone have any news about the spring practices? Anyone looking good/not so good? Been thirsting for some UNT football news of late.2 points

Don't like that we didn't score after that LSU timeout. Would have been nice to take a double-digit lead into the half. Can't let them get any momentum at all in the second.2 points

That was the most fun stretch of Mean Green basketball all season. Love the work being done on the offensive board. Keep it up!!2 points

The discussion started with Allen vs Sissoco. Sissoco could be deemed a returning starter from the NIT tourney I guess, once Abou left us. But in nearly every game this season Allen has outplayed him and warrants starting to get him max minutes.2 points

Both sides are correct... Productivity has to be available off the bench. But it's hard to watch the productivity coming off the bench replace minimal productivity. I would love to see more out of Sissoko. But we wouldn't have NIT hardware in our case if it wasn't for Sissoko. So, it's easy for me to want more out of him, but it's hard for me to be upset with him. He took on a difficult challenge in the NIT last year and rose up and played exceptionally well for us. Then stayed to try and do it again.2 points

Why are players who transfer from UNT " cowards "but those who transfer to North Texas are not? You seem to want it both ways.2 points

Have you shared this with Coach Hodge, he needs to know. In 2022 Tylor Perry came off the bench and was first team all CUSA. Jelly Walker was POY, 1st team CUSA, and won the 6th man award which I thought meant he did not start. 2022 MBB Postseason Awards (PDF) - Conference USA You may want to inform Andy Kennedy of this also.2 points

This is not going to be an easy game for TCU and they know it . I seriously believe this UNT team will knock TCU off. UNT Women’s basketball will run the Metroplex this year.2 points

Didn't they have a star player who was declared ineligible at the last minute?2 points

I believe this Mean Green team is going to floor-board the gas and put a whipping on TCU ! GMG2 points

It really does feel like Grant built something here that is a winning culture. I think we got picked because of our name. Which is just weird still to me. I love it though!2 points

Alot will depend on the mentality of the two teams. Who is more excited about playing in the NIT? It will be interesting to see how hard each team plays. Really quick turnaround. GMG!1 point
