  1. Mac as in Coach McCarney? The last coach to get us a bowl win? That Mac? Yes, his tenure ended horribly but he also led some great teams and he truly cared about the character of his players.

  2. This is not what we were sold when Morris was hired. This was never supposed to be a rebuild. Morris was supposed to elevate us higher and make us more competitive. Can't be surprised that fans/people are quitting on this team. The program needs to show fans that real changes are being made. Fans are tired of the lipstick on this pig. Caponi has to go., and Morris needs to own up to that bad hire.

  3. I have seen lots of improvements on the field despite losses.

  4. G.J. Kinne was hired by Texas State 11 days before Morris and had the other disadvantages you list. The Bobcats are 6-3 and have an upset win over Baylor. Jeff Traylor was hired by UTSA on Dec. 9, 2019. They went 5-2 in conference the next season (7-5 overall). First-year coaches hired after a season have had success. It just hasn't happened in Denton since Rod Rust in 1967.

  5. last time we saw our defense was under coach Mac.

  6. EM not being the correct pick doesn’t mean that SL firing was the wrong decision. Those are mutually exclusive. We had this same question when we fired Dickey and hired dodge. It is irrelevant. Firing SL had to happen. Hiring Morris didn’t have to happen.

  7. No. Littrell needed to go back in 2020. The problem is we hired an air raid guy that doesn't understand defense. That's why we have a billon receivers and can't stop the run. Air raid coaches should be capped at the offensive coordinator position. No higher. Defense wins championships.

  8. Show where the athletic department told us Morris was coming here for a rebuild. All I read was how he was going to elevate out programs as we moved to the AAC.

  9. Yes. Just need more players on Defense. We're only 7 points away from the best AAC teams. One portal off-season can fix this.

  10. You can’t fix this defense without new players. It doesn’t matter what scheme you run. We just don’t have the players we need to improve this defense. The cupboard is just that bare on the defensive side of the ball. Firing Caponi won’t do any good mid-season. It really just is what it is. We are just going to have to take our lumps and find players who can beef up the defense.

  11. You know we may not be winning on the field right now but we damn sure win on game day, tailgating wise. I was thinking about it yesterday as I enjoyed some of the best food and drink with the best group of people you will ever encounter at Tony and Vic’s, and Scotty’s tailgates, and the day had me reflecting on how unbelievably fortunate we were to have the vast Mean Green Athletic estate to enjoy one of the most beautiful days of the year. Easily accessible lots, vast, wide open spaces and beautiful green belts in every direction that gives us access to tailgate under massive oak and pecan trees. It’s just beautiful to me. Many of you and myself have traveled the country attending these events over the years. In fact I was in Minneapolis the weekend the Gophers played Michigan back on the first weekend of October this season. As I drove around the tailgates at The Bank I actually felt sorry for their fans because it looked horrible and reminded me of what it would be like setting up a picnic in a WalMart parking lot in the center of a city landscape. What we are privileged with is truly a football game day Nirvana imo. Thank you again to Scott, Tony and Vic and everyone who invited SilverEagle and I to your tailgates. Y’all absolutely knocked it out of the park. Can’t wait to do it again. Rick

  12. How is it that we know Morris is the wrong hire when he had less than a full offseason to build? It seems lost in these debates that our competition this year is significantly more difficult than any year in CUSA, Seth isn’t doing any better here. Resources are higher and more money is spent but it takes time to build. We don’t get Rogers at qb if not for Morris. Defense is terrible and needs to improve but we can’t really decide Morris was a terrible hire when he hasn’t time to build. The one criticism that makes sense is transfer portal based but not sure how viable that is without major NIL or a famous head coach (there aren’t a lot to go around, wish we could pull one but we don’t know if it was attempted so can’t know if we should be mad). I want actual wins but I feel there is plenty of promise in this season. Seth got blown out in ever major game and opponent he faced (besides the UTSA ranked game but whatever) and we have been in games with those teams this year under Morris.

  13. Before today, UNT was giving up 256.6 rushing yards and 475.5 total yards per game, which are dead last in the entire FBS. We're also giving up 36.6 points per game, which is sixth from the bottom. Today we gave up 287 rushing yards, 421 total yards and 37 points, so two of those three stats are getting worse. Morris could be a better offensive coach than Mike Leach and the Mean Green will have no chance next season if another Caponi defense is anywhere close to this bad. Instead of making next season his last chance to prove himself, how about the next three games?

  14. Littrell was only hanging on by a thread because the leadership at UNT and fans like you kept making excuses for his failures. No one is buying that crap anymore. No more excuses. If you can show me where the AD was calling this a rebuild and I'll shut up. But, you can't, because it was never meant to be a rebuild.

  15. Littrel if anything was fired a year too late. We just picked Littrel light which is so hilariously North Texas it makes me cry. Idk what the ad does in this situation but I hope he figures it out.

  16. At least we shouldn’t have to worry about anyone stealing our defensive players in the portal! Silver lining!

  17. This team is making progress and if you can't see that than no one can help you. Just played and should have beat two of the predicted best teams in the league in Memphis and Tulane. Even the defense is showing some life. The biggest issue is the slow starts. Morris looks like a great hire, despite what many of you think. Morris is not going anywhere and many of you seem to have forgot that he barely had any time to recruit. How about let him have at least one recruiting class behind him before your evaluation?

  18. i would tell the offense to quit effing around... once again, an inefficient start to the game (where they went 2 yards backwards) and then the turnovers in the second half led to drives of 11 and 9 yards (still only allowing 10 points). Make no mistake, this defense sucks in the first half of games, but so does the offense... Here what UTSA did on offense in the second half 3 Plays, 7 yards - Punt 6 Plays, 8 yards - Punt 7 Plays, 11 Yards - FG (following UNT interception) 3 Plays, 1 Yard - Punt 3 Plays, -1 Yard - Punt 2 Plays, 9 Yards - Touchdown (following UNT interception) 11 Plays, 33 Yards - Game over In other words, UNT gave up 68 yards in the second half on less than 2 yards per play and would have most likely pitched a shutout if not for the terrible field position they were put in.

  19. I'm glad that we can agree that the black uniforms have been an absolute marketing disaster akin to the New Coke disaster and Bud Light partnering with Dylan Mulvaney. Nobody should ever alienate their customer base like that. Are there people that don't care? Yes, and those are the people that need to be weeded from our program. We need people that actually care about our school making the decisions that affect it.

  20. So, you admit the department never called this season a rebuild. You admit Morris went into the Media Day and talked about us competing for the AAC title this season. Thanks. Morris actually changed us to a worse defense. That's regression, not a rebuild.

  23. There are only two reasons to draw comparisons to Dodge, who is quite simply the worst D1 coach I’ve ever witnessed. 1) Hyperbole 2) Enough time has passed that the PTSD has subsided

  24. The defense is obviously not good, but I think the 3 turnovers contributed more to the loss than anything the defense did or didn’t do.

  25. First, we don't know if Rogers would be here or not without Morris. It's not like Morris convinced him to enter the transfer portal since that's against the rules, right? SL could have recruited him just the same. Second, less than one offseason to build? He has a transfer portal available to make changes and he himself said he improperly evaluated the roster. That's unacceptable. When SL got here, he knew what he needed to fulfill his vision of the program. Morris essentially admitted he didn't know what he needed because he didn't know what he had. That's coming from your team's head coach! Third, regarding schedule, we've not played a harder schedule this year so stop. We played a bad Cal squad at home, FIU and LA Tech just like last year, Memphis just like last year, UTSA just like last year, Tulane, a bad Temple without their starting QB, and a bad Navy squad with a first year headcoach. Get that thinking out of your mind because this schedule is only harder than last year's on paper. That's it. Edit to add we've played 5 teams with losing records plus ACU. We have 3 wins out of that.

  26. Arkansas (2-6) fired their Offensive Coord/QB coach last week. Won @ Florida (5-3) today, with the same players, ending a 6-game losing streak and winning in Gainesville for the first time in 6 tries. Change can be good. It can inspire and make unusual things happen.

  27. Seth Littrell couldn't win a bowl game and by the end UNT wasn't even competitive in those losses. He wasn't going to lead the Mean Green to success in our first season in the American.

  28. First off, this was going to be a rebuilding year. Second, Morris was a late hire, had virtually no recruiting, missed most of the fall transfer window, and most of the good assistant coaches were already committed to other schools.
    5 points
  29. Transition doesn't imply regression. Seth had to go... but this is so much worse. You seemed dedicated to getting a ban lately, so unsure why I even bother. You'll argue with God if it got you a down vote.

  30. Defense wins championships. Littrell never learned this. Morris has yet to figure it out. I miss Skladany.

  31. Skladany is the best DC we have had in the last 20 years by far I may be misremembering, but I feel like maybe there was a decent season with Reffett and a decent season with PB but the rest have been awful.

  32. Boy I am. As soon as we’re not able to reach bowl eligibility, so likely late Friday night, he needs to be sent packing. Coaching cycle is getting ready to start up. There will be much better options available that we can afford.

  33. You hardly win football games if you lose the turnover battle. And you especially never beat teams that are better than you if you lose the turnover battle. We had two costly ones yesterday that killed potential touchdown drives. To me, the bigger problem is our size, or lack thereof. The last three weeks, it has been glaringly obvious that we don't look like or play like a successful D1 program, especially on the defensive side of the ball. But also, both of Rogers picks yesterday we from tipped passes at the line of scrimmage. Simply put, UTSA has size up front on defense that we lack. Until we get some bigger defensive lineman up front, we will continue to struggle.

  36. Don’t forget. We pretty much hired Dodge because we couldn’t afford anyone else. Given the resources available now compared to then…. I’m having a hard time saying Dodge was much worse if any than what we’ve seen so far.

  37. Give Morris time. I think he’s going to be good.
    4 points
  38. I don’t care what anyone in the AD said when Morris was hired or preseason. Most of that is just coach speak. It’s very clear just by watching our games that the terrible defense from last year is a rebuild. It’s going to take getting the right players to make it better. We haven’t done that. For me that’s a result of the recruits the old staff brought in and the new staff not finding what they needed via the portal. Offense was not a rebuild. It was a quarterback and playmaker or 2 away from being really good. The new staff addressed that with great success. It’s also very evident that the AAC has some pretty terrible defenses across the board.

  40. Geez....this was a pathetic loss. I thought it was time for Seth to go. Never dreamed we would be the worse for it. I just see a another Leach Disciple who so far is worse than the man he replaced. Change my mind coach.

  48. LoL, we might get Morris or some of his Coordinators fired in the next few years if we don't perform, but seeing UNT fire an AD? Wooo buddy... we got at least a decade of bad football before they'd do that, especially if basketball is decent during the same time period.
