Thanks @UNTLifer -- that is helpful ... but disappointing info. We had some GREAT memories taking the kiddos to the homecoming parade each year back in the day, them loading up on candy pre-Halloween, etc. In fact, we had so much fun we started inviting non-UNT family friends who brought their kids as well, we all ate at various restaurants in the Denton town square pre-or post parade ($$$ for local merchants) and now my oldest is going to UNT as he enjoyed the games and parades so much he has fond memories of the place. Wonder how many possible future students and lost $$ to local businesses they are forfeiting with this stupid policy? But, y'know, sustainability. 😞 🤢

I was just watching today's press conference, and there was a lot of praise for our new kicker Noah Rauschenberg (Brett must be working up an article on him, thus all the questions about him). It just got me to thinking how we got him from Baylor and Jake Roberts went to Baylor, so it worked out almost like an NFL-style trade. Normally kickers aren't that high priority, but Coach Morris was talking about how valuable it is to have a kicker you can have confidence in from 55 yards. And I'm not sure how big of a role Jake Roberts would be playing in our new offense anyway. So what say you--good trade?

Excellent trade. An elite kicker can be a real game changer and we have one of the best.

My daughter is at UNT and she has not said anything about protests or anything, I might ask her next time I chat with her. Seems to be more located at the Ivy Leagues and Liberal Arts schools.

Here is the email I just sent Christa, I was given your contact information to ask about the Homecoming Parade. I am an alumnus with 2 degrees from UNT. My wife and I always enjoyed going to the HC parade, and were disappointed when it was cancelled….in part, we were told, to Covid. I can get that. Now I being told that it is because of the lack of participation, too much clean-up, and environmental issues. That, I do not understand. Universities across the country have HC parades. How do they avoid these issues? Clean up is not a valid excuse. Regarding participation, I will agree the crowd has shrunk over the years. I would put that on the University about promoting the event, not only to students, alumni, but the surrounding community. The economic impact is surely a hit for business on the square. Get creative. Have the Greek community compete for prime spots on the route with competition….do something. Those of us who donate to the University and athletic department were not consulted on this decision. UNT refuse to do the things that make other Universities stand out as the standard. UNT needs to be part of that standard. Can you please explain why we are not having a parade? Not a boiler plate answer, a real explanation as to what factors lead to the decision. Who is the person that we need to reach out to regarding this? Please help those of us who want this understand. Thank you, Steven King

Hurray for Bill! Everyone with an interest in NT broadcasting history should read Bill's book "Play by Play." He also was one of the authors of "When the news went live: Dallas 1963" about the coverage of the Kennedy assassination. Look at that famous picture of all the reporters lined up when the Dallas police brought out Oswald for a midnight press conference - there's Bill on the front row!

The cherry on top is that the Dia de los Muertos festival has a parade with floats but UNT homecoming occurring on the same day in the same city won't have one due to "sustainability."

There are some really useless staff in the North Texas admin that need to go away. Not understanding or implementing the parade just shows how bad it is. Same with the cannon and many other things.

Who is partying in New Orleans this weekend? I know Me plus at least 4 in our group.

Normally, I do an observations write up after each game. However, the Temple game was a blow out. We played complementary football, didn't turn the ball over, and our defense pitched a shut out during the second half. I am very happy that we were able to dominate and get our first conference win in the American. With that being said, I thought I would do a quick write up of where we currently stand. There have been several growing pains this season. The Cal game was not close, but the others have all been winnable. If we took advantage of certain situations, we would be 5-1 right now. However spoiler alert, we did not and we currently are 3-3 with the toughest stretch of games on the horizon. I really do think that the team is starting to buy into Coach Morris' program. There is a ton of enthusiasm on the sideline and the guys are playing really hard for him. The next few weeks will determine if we make a bowl game or not. Our offense will keep us in games, and I hope that our defense continues to improve. If we can some how win 3 of these next 6 games and make a bowl, I will be thrilled! One last thing before I jump into the stats, thanks so much to @Harry and the other members that started the Mean Green Collective. We have seen several posts these last few months about starting a program to support our athletes. If you enjoy reading content on this free board, please think about donating to the collective. We have over 10,000 members on this site. Even a small amount will help out with the cause. Alright, so I got creative in Excel this morning (I'm putting that UNT Business Degree to use). Below you will find some visuals for our Top Statistical Leaders as well as our Total Defense/Offense by game. Offensively we are currently averaging 478 yards a game. Defensively we are giving up 461 yards a game. On offense, we have been pretty balanced all year long with 52% rushing plays against 48% passing plays. Ayo Adeyi is our leading rusher with 481 yards on the year. However, we use multiple running backs throughout the game. Oscar Adaway and Isaiah Johnson have been solid all year long. Their stats are almost identical as both are averaging about 40 yards a game. Chandler Rogers has played really good football for us this season. He was an absolute steal in the portal this offseason. He is calm in the pocket, makes great reads, and doesn't turn over the football. Dare I say, he is the best QB we have had since Mason Fine? I am certainly starting to lean that way. Chandler currently has a 64% completion percentage with 1419 yards and 12 TDs. Ja"Mori Maclin has been our leading WR with 587 yards and 8 TDs. This has been another great addition from the transfer portal. He is electric and makes so many great plays for us. I have enjoyed watching him this season. Roderic Burns has also played great for us this season. He has the most receptions with 27 for 275 yards. The defense has been trending in the right direction these last few games. The first few weeks were not good. I don't love the 3-3-5, but it has been nice to see the defense playing better. We essentially lost our best LB and DB to the portal, and have played a lot of younger guys. This defense doesn't get a lot of sacks, and has struggled against the run. However, they are improving, and making stops when they need to. The next few weeks will be a big challenge for them. Jordan Brown and Logan Wilson are the leading tacklers with 41. Kevin Wood and Mazin Richards each have 2 sacks on the year. Redshirt Freshman Ethan Wesloski and Patrick Smith have been solid contributors this year with 31 and 30 tackles. Phil Hill, Jaylen Smith, Carson Kropp, Ridge Texada, Nick Nakwaasah, John Davis, and Evan Jackson all have 1 INT on the year. These next few weeks will determine if the first season of the Eric Morris regime is successful or not. I hope we make a bowl game, but it is ultimately up to the players and coaches. Lets continue to support these guys. GMG!

Bill Mercer is the first person I associated with North Texas. When I watched the occasional game as a kid in the 1970s, I recognized him from the Saturday Night Wrestling broadcasts on Channel 11. One of the all-time greats in DFW sports broadcasting and a well-deserved inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

Looking forward to seeing who plays Bill in the upcoming movie about the Von Ericks, The Iron Claw.

How many of you currently know an 18 or 17-year-old boy? They change their minds more often than a butterfly changes directions! He could have a girlfriend now that is going to SWTSU. He could have buddies that want him to join them there. There are any number of reasons completely unrelated to football that can and do cause people to change what school they plan to attend.

In typical UNT fashion, we have scheduled homecoming up against the "day of the dead" festival in downtown Denton. Any of you that attended this know that it conceivably outdraws North Texas Football anyway. I expect a light crowd with only the regulars and few coming back from homecoming. The football team has given little reason to attend over this great Denton tradition. Now, beat Tulane.......maybe that changes for some.

After dismal play early in the season and a campaign of terror by my better half, I was roped into another event instead of going to New Orleans. I hope someone drinks their weight in Purple Drink at Lafitte's for me.

North Texas 34 - Tulane 30 Tulane has had to come from behind by double digit deficits in the past two games against UAB and Memphis. They also allow 249.8 passing yards per game, ranked 100 in college football per the NCAA website, however, they've only allowed 7 passing TDs. Statistically somewhat of a bend don't break defense where their run defense clamping down having allowed only 4 rushing TDs all year. UAB and Memphis both struggled in the second half with Memphis having scored 21 by the 10 minute mark of the 3rd and being shut out the rest of the way and UAB scoring 20 in the first half and 3 in the 2nd half. We'll need to counter whatever second half adjustments Tulane makes because that's where their games have been won.

You guys are reading the thread in hindsight. The people are posting in real time. There will always be a big disconnect from post game highs (or lows). The discussion thread is a play by play that will see each play as raw as it is. Should posters predict the future? Or wait until after the game to post? Or just have fun posting good or bad about the game?

Without a bowl or conference championship game, Maclin is on pace for 50 catches for 1,174 yards and 16 TDs. By comparison, Shorter, who was a devastating portal loss, caught 23 passes for 628 yards and 11 TDs in 2022. Shorter's YPC was astonishing at 27+ per catch, but Maclin isn't far behind at 23.5.
