  2. Screw You! For years as G5, FCS, D2, and D3 have been left without funding, you have never been worried about the state of college football. Now that a historic Power 5 conference is being impacted, all these national pundits are suddenly concerned about the state of the college football game. Many of you same national journalists have been the ones that went out of the way to raise up power five teams and act like everyone else in college sports does not exist. You have repeatedly championed this monster, and now that it's starting to come about, some of you act like it's not something you expected. Just about as ignorant as those of you who did not know that the transfer portal and, more so, NIL would end up being pay-for-play.

  3. PAC just has to invite 7 the MWC and they can vote to kill the exit fees.

  7. Those that expect the remaining 4 PAC teams to just grab MWC and AAC teams and soldier on, keep a few things in mind. 1) The PAC owes Comcast a LOT of money 2) MWC teams have a substantial buyout to leave that conference, and… 3) Teams in the PAC won’t be getting near the money they used to get (that affects offsetting #2) 4) Cal, Stanford, Washington State and Oregon State are used to operating on a budget that included $30M in television rights payouts (see #3 again)

  8. My takeaway from all this is that SMU can suck it.
    6 points
  9. This sucks. It makes no sense for Washington to be playing Rutgers and not Washington State. This could have all been prevented if NCAA just negotiated TV rights as a whole. Instead it leads to a race for the elites to grab everything and keep further dividing the gap between G5s and P5s, or whatever the new term will be.

  10. We play Texas Tech and Wyoming at home in 2027. Anyone complaining about an easy SEVENTH home game against a TX FCS opponent needs a serious reality check.
    6 points
  11. This is flat out false. A lot of schools play FCS opponents almost every year. No one cares.

  12. Setting the bar pretty low there. If we played The University of Cairo, they would bring more fans than SMU.

  13. I hope I make it till the 2026 season when we play at Wyoming at Laramie. Never seen a College football game in Laramie or anywhere in Wyoming. ...and I'd also like to say it's hopefully unlikely I'd die from old age before 2026. It's more likely my wife kills me in a rage over asking her to go to Laramie, Wyoming, to watch a football game.

  14. No way PAC schools would seek to offer 7 MWC programs membership at this time. Maybe in 10 months, but they will wait to see what other options appear first. And no way Apple would pay 20 mil per school for MWC move ups to join PAC.

  15. Kind of like what we're already doing?!? Upcoming P5 home games: Cal (2023), Texas Tech (2027), Baylor (2029), Mizzou (2030), Colorado (2033) Upcoming P5 road games: Texas Tech (2024), Baylor (2028), Mizzou (2031), Colorado (2032) Upcoming G5 series: Wyoming, San Jose St, Army, TXST, Louisiana Tech, Western Michigan We have VERY LITTLE to complain about.

  17. The PAC is being sued by the San Diego bowl they backed out of during Covid for several million. And by their previous broadcast partner for like $50 mil.

  18. So if the PAC 12 invites Fresno ST.,UNLV, AFA, Colorado State,Boise St. , Utah State, and SDSU , and they cancel out the exit fees then , move to the PAC hopefully taking SMU with them and they have 12 programs. The " left behind" programs can join the WAC or CUSA. However, like any divorce, the PAC 4 are going to learn to live on a lot less than $30 million a year and cut their other athletic programs to the bone

  19. PAC should hire Judy. She was able to save CUSA after it got raided, just imagine what she’d do for the PAC 😂

  20. Let’s be real, you can talk television deals and money all you want, but this is how it truly went down. George Kliavkof: “We have an underwhelming streaming offer from Apple TV and we’ll struggle to make the money the Big12 and Big10 make…and won’t even approach SEC money. Is everyone still with me??!” Pac12 Teams: George Kliavkof: “Great! Now we can move forward with expansion…first on the list is SMU…” Pac12 Teams:

  21. I wish I was as optimistic as most on this board, but I don’t see how this is good for the MWC or AAC. The PAC 12 brand has value, and presents the opportunity for the four remaining schools to align with the best academic schools in both the MWC and AAC. What I see possibly happening is this. California, Stanford, OSU, WSU, San Diego State, Air Force, CSU, SMU, Rice, and Tulane. That’s 10 to settle things down and a start. They could add a couple more now or later. CSU and Air Force get games in the central time zone and in Texas, which they’re on record as wanting.

  22. Other games also on the 2027 and 2029 schedule: Texas Tech and Baylor respectively. It’ll be okay folks. Promise.

  24. 1) COMCAST has already said that it expects to be made whole by THE MEMBER INSTITUTIONS AT THE TIME THE DISTRIBUTIONS WERE MADE. Whether the PAC folds or not, their lawyers are still going after the schools who got the money at the time, no matter what conference they are in now. 2) As we talked about in this thread, the MWC bylaws are online. A simple majority vote can change any rule/regulation, including the buyout fees. Just invite a majority of the MWC and they can strike down the exit fees and then exit. 3) PAC4 aren’t going to make more money leaving the PAC. The PAC at least has Autonomy 5 status, BY NAME, in the NCAA bylaws. 4) No one outside the B1G/SEC is going to replace that money, and they don’t want them. Moot point.

  25. Personally I would like to go on record as having no interest in Oregon and Washington State. I know Aresco is making a play for them but they probably belong in the Mountain West from a geographical perspective.
    3 points
  26. Agree. In an ideal world, if going west, it’d be Stanford, Cal, SDSU, UNLV, Colorado State, and AFA. This would add substantial markets, solid programs, and keep travel more reasonable than asking Rice and UTSA to fly up to Washington State and Oregon State for games. That said, I think we’re in the “strengthen your conference at all costs” phase to not be left behind. So if we’re looking at the 4 remaining PAC schools joining the AAC rather than joining the MWC or poaching the top MWC and AAC schools, I’m all for it.

  27. Mike Aresco is working behind the scenes… MWC has also signaled to the PAC that they are open to a merger. Thankfully the AAC has the type of elite educational-focused schools Stanford and Cal want to be associated with and the Texas recruiting & TV markets. 🙏🏼

  28. I get the shady side. You think Denton is hot in early September… As my Dad used to say, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Remember when K-State sucked and Snyder turned them around. He played “lower level” teams and started winning. I swear, some will complain about anything around here.

  30. I don’t know, it may just be me? But imo any school that has recently invested funding to renovate their stadium, which they have sold out nearly every game recently, every fall attempts to surpass its sister school by building this big of a bonfire every year, and who went out and acquired its own 3-inch M1902 Field Gun with matching caisson…. probably brings a good crowd to Denton and will be looking to steal our lunch money. This isn’t my grandmother’s Tarleton State University anymore. Maybe Phil and Jeff would like to join the rest of us in the 21st century? I hear it has a great, new groove. Rick

  31. For PACx to survive: They need to get to 8 FBS playing members to be an FBS conference. They need to get to 7 DIV I members to stay a DIV 1 multisport conference and keep receiving the NCAA Tournament units.
    3 points
  32. A merger with the MWC, and they keep the PAC name?
    3 points
  33. Two things to remember about the "who survives, the PAC or the MWC" discussion: The PAC is owed a lot of NCAA Tourney credits for the next five years. The PAC is granted autonomy status under NCAA rules by name.
    3 points
  34. Yeah the PAC really screwed themselves with no GoR and all these schools bailing next year. MWC schools can’t afford to join before 2025. I don’t see a fix for this.
    3 points
  35. Thank you for the thread merger. Too many threads to keep up with.

  36. On another note, it can no longer be said Judy is the worst commissioner in FBS.

  37. The problem for the MWC teams is they would have to pay $32 million if they wanted to play in the PAC in 2024 or $17 million for 2025. With these schools gone no way that Apple will keep the offer on the table. Maybe they could merge the two and keep the PAC brand? I still would not be surprised to see Stanford go independent.

  38. How will they ever elevate themselves?

  39. There's no way Stanford and Cal swallow their academic pride and join the MWC.

  41. This wouldn’t be bad- AAC West Division North Texas SMU AFA Colorado State UTSA Tulsa Tulane Rice Am I missing anyone?

  42. Prediction surely to be wrong. Cal and Stanford to the American to hobnob with SMU, Tulane, Rice, and SMU for their "shared educational values." Oregon State and Washington State to the MWC

  43. I think cover bands are a great pick for events like this. The versatility of being able to play music across artists and genres is a good thing for a crowd that will be across the spectrum of age, interests, and backgrounds.

  44. Can I just take a moment to say "I wish the athletic department would do something to add to the pre-game atmosphere" while simultaneously saying "but here's why I'm going to nitpick any effort they put forth"? I want to maintain some consistency around here.
    3 points
  45. I'm a little less bull-ish on this group mostly because I'm not sure how much cohesion they'll have with the quarterbacks. Also, the offense under Morris might rely more on precision than downfield athleticism. I love Ward and Burns I just wonder if they can adapt quickly. Just be prepared for a more short passing offense. Last year we had seven guys over twelve yards a catch. WSU didn't have one.
