Let's give Rondel a warm welcome. I trust in the staff to make such a decision. Overall team talent looks great on paper .. the Staff can judge social - team dynamics to gel and make it another great season. Some people asked who Kai was and he turned out to be one of the best surprises in all of basketball. Welcome Rondel .. looking forward to a great season .. enjoy the ride.15 points

If Hodge can get him near his freshman numbers, at OSU in the toughest conference in the country, he'll be a great fit for us in the AAC. This is as solid as it gets for a rotation guy. A player that we can feel good about coming in, and providing depth. possibly more. If you don't want to get excited, you don't have to be.4 points

North Texas lands a commitment from Millwood athlete Micho "Tank" Lavine. He is 6'3 208 lb RB. But North Texas is recruiting him at Linebacker. He is the 24th ranked player in the state of Oklahoma according to ON3.com. Lavine held offers from UTSA, Washington State and Kent State. Watching the highlight film Micho is a man among boys. When asked what made North Texas the best fit? 'It felt like home honestly, and I loved the coach staff especially coach Kratch." Lavine said. He is not afraid of contact. Lavine is the 9th commit in the '24 North Texas Class and the 3rd commit this week. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/15212611/637e8f8968993805e8bcf672 https://247sports.com/player/micho-lavine-46141823/4 points

Lol, I remember at the Denton one a few years ago Grant was chatting with me about sandwich places in Italy. It was like I met a long lost friend, and it was the first time I had met him. Then the HCs got called on stage, and he was like "oh got to go". I only met him a few times, but that guy understands it (fan engagement). Hopefully the new HCs are like that with us tonight in Frisco.3 points

The only concern I have is how do you find quality minutes for all the guards? There doesn't appear to be an appreciable difference in ability. Many seem to be interchangeable. No throw in the walk on and Christian Moore. Transfers don't sign on to sit on the bench. To keep everybody happy we'll certainly have to increase the pace from 64.5 ppg. Will be interesting for sure. Now if we can just add a Nickola Jokic with the last spot, I'll shut the hell up.3 points

It's a sad fact that many of our fans would rather bash players that come here and praise those that transfer out3 points

These figures are not the budget; they are the revenue and expenses. The only problem is that the amount allocated does not state where those funds come from. I believe that our allocation comes from student fees, donations, and other income. We have a very large amount from student fees because our enrollment keeps growing. So far, I believe that we do not have to take anything from the Universities revenue. In other words, nothing from the non-athletic funds. We are relatively solvent as long as our enrollment keeps growing. We are fortunate there. Many universities are having a decrease in enrollment. If that is combined with a decrease in giving, which it usually is, they can have to borrow from funds allocated to other departments to keep athletics solvent. This chart doesn't tell if the budget is solvent or in a deficit situation which the university must make up.3 points

Here is my best explanation, and I hope this comes across in an informative/positive way, not like I'm trying to brag about SMU. I like to pop in here for debates, so I'm trying not to get banned. P5 conferences want to know that potential addition will do what it takes to be successful if they are elevated. A lot of that comes down to spending. SMU already spends at the low end P5 level, without the P5 media revenue. Its a show of commitment, not a "were so rich, look at us". You cant guarantee success if your school is elevated, but you can guarantee you will do everything within your power to try. Will you spend on extra staff, facilities, NIL, or whatever it takes to be successful at the P5 level? SMU has proven we can and we will. Some additional things besides the "money"/NIL/Portal that are usually mentioned by anyone who talks about SMU in a positive light... PAC12 fans are flocking to Texas which will help SMUs attendance, and let them see their team locally. SMU opens up some Central Time Zone games, which is good for media partners. SMU has the academics that the snobs at Cal/Stanford want to see. SMU helps the PAC12 schools, and especially the Arizona Schools and Colorado, recruit Texas for players. It also makes it easier for those schools to pull regular students from Texas, which one of the Arizona presidents stated is a big deal. S Just my thoughts. Feel free to disagree.3 points

No, for several reasons... We just paid millions to get into the AAC. I believe that we would lose our entrance fee and possibly have to pay an exit fee. The Mountain West would still be considered a lesser conference. In addition we would have to pay another entrance fee for the MWC. In my opinion, the AAC has the best commissioner of all the G5s. That means we'll likely get the best advertising of the G5s and the largest payout because we are in larger markets. The MWC is likely to lose its best franchise, San Diego State, to the PAC12. That would drop its appeal as much as it can be hurt. Other than UTSA our closest MWC member would be New Mexico or Air Force. Much more travel expense! The AAC will get the first G5 spot in the playoffs. That's already been established. Finally, we are busy now putting the new American emblem on courts, fields, uniforms, etc. and are too far into it to back out now. Lastly, I don't see how the MWC will ever be an advantage for us.3 points

Former TCU guard Rondel Walker has committed to North Texas, he told On3. The 6-foot-5 rising senior averaged 1.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game this past season for the Horned Frogs, who finished fifth in the Big 12 with an overall record of 22-13. Walker began his college career at Oklahoma State, spending two seasons in Stillwater. He averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds during his freshman year at OSU followed up by 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds during his sophomore season. Walker, a native of Midwest City, Oklahoma, will now finish his college career at North Texas under replacement head coach Ross Hodge. The Mean Green are coming off a successful 2022-23 season where they won the NIT tournament, completing the year with a record of 31-7. Former UNT head coach Grant McCasland, who led the team to NIT champs, is now the head coach at Texas Tech. read more: https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/news/former-tcu-oklahoma-state-guard-rondel-walker-commits-to-north-texas/2 points

DENTON, Texas – After leading Louisiana Tech to the two best seasons in program history, UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley has hired Amanda Stone as the new head coach for Mean Green women’s tennis. “We are excited to welcome Amanda and her family to UNT to lead our women's tennis program,” Mosley said. “Amanda has a great track record of building successful programs and she quickly rose to the top of our candidate pool. Her vision on how she wants to build this program into a championship contender as we enter the American Athletic Conference stood out to our committee. We look forward to seeing her positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes in the years ahead.” Stone, the 2023 Conference USA Coach of the Year and Wilson/ITA Southern Region Coach of the Year, comes to Denton following a record-breaking seven-year tenure as head coach at Louisiana Tech. During that time, she became the program’s all-time wins leader with an 89-69 mark in Ruston. She has a 175-89 record all-time in 11 seasons as a head coach. Under her leadership, LA Tech registered a 20-6 overall record in 2023, the second most single-season victories in school history. The Lady Techsters also best C-USA finish while advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time ever. The program finished the season ranked No. 73 by the ITA, another first. “I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead Mean Green tennis,” Stone said. “My family and I are thrilled to be joining the North Texas and Denton community. I want to thank Jared Mosley and the administration for entrusting me with the tennis program. I’m excited to get to work and take Mean Green tennis to new heights.” The 2022 season was also one of the best in LA Tech history, registering the third most victories in school history with an 18-6 overall record. Included in the season was a program-setting 14-match winning streak as well as a 12-match home winning streak, which was also a record. LA Tech ended the 2022 campaign totaling 81 dual singles wins and 39 dual doubles wins, both ranking second in program history behind only the 1982 squad. Five different players reached double-digit singles victories, led by seniors Ilana Tetruashvili (17 wins) and Najah Dawson (14 wins) who were both named Second Team All-Louisiana. Dawson was also voted Louisiana Newcomer of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to receive this award. Stone reached a milestone of 150 career victories during the season as well, this after surpassing 50 total wins as LA Tech head coach in 2021 after the program produced a nine-win campaign that was anchored by All-Louisiana honorees Tetruashvili and Alexia Romero. The Claremore, Okla. native rebuilt the Lady Techsters by showing consistent improvement including double-digit victories in three of her first four seasons. Prior to Ruston, Stone recorded an 86-20 record and four straight Round of 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament during four seasons as the head coach at Northeastern State (Okla.), a Division II program located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The two-time MIAA Coach of the Year returned the RiverHawks back to national prominence, as the team shot up the rankings all four seasons Stone served as head coach. She posted at least 20 wins in each of her four years, which included four straight trips to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. She also led NSU to three-consecutive MIAA Regular Season Championships (2014-16). Stone boasted two ITA All-Americans, one ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year, one ITA Central Region Player to Watch, one MIAA Player of the Year, and two MIAA Freshmen of the Year during her time at Northeastern State. Of the 15 players who competed in the program since Stone took over in 2013, 14 earned All-MIAA honors at least once. Those 14 student-athletes amassed 38 all-conference accolades. She took over the reins of a program that was unranked at the time and led it to the school's first ever Top 10 ranking which came at the end of the 2016 campaign. She also built a stellar academic program with one CoSIDA Academic All-American, four CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees, eight ITA Scholar-Athletes, one MIAA Academic Excellence award winner, 10 MIAA Scholar-Athletes and 13 members of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Stone also spent two years at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), where she served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs from 2011-12. She played at Northeastern State from 2004-07, where made two national tournament appearances, attained a No. 11 national doubles ranking in 2007 and posted an undefeated singles mark her senior year. Her first collegiate stop was at Oral Roberts, where she played basketball during her freshman campaign. Stone graduated from NSU in 2007. She is married to Ross Wiersma and has one child, Thea. I guess they are trying to keep the shows quiet, finding very little on Social Media. For all the good that is going on in Denton, Our Athletic Departments Social Media presence, outside recruiting, is still very weak. IMO we are missing an excellent opportunity to engage with the fanbase and capitalize on the positive things happening. Jared needs to learn from Coach O and step up the game.1 point

It doesn’t have to be a stadium but it definitely needs to be something significant. I am definitely not opposed Mitchell being in the stadium name however I understand addressing financial need being the primary consideration. Winningest Mean Green coach by a long shot and a trailblazer. One of the few things I knew about SMU before going to a UNT vs SMU game was them being one of the first to integrate the SWC (they were actually second but tell the story like they were the first). Meanwhile Coach Mitchell & UNT Intergrated College Football in the state of Texas 8 years earlier. The SWC folded 25 years ago. 🤷🏽♂️ So honoring Coach Mitchell in a substantial, highly visible and long standing way beyond just our HOF and ring of honor is just a major oversight. Also if you dig through our history you will find our program was low key punished for being one the first to do the right thing.1 point

Is total budget really a ranking tool? It doesn’t really give you any insight into the health of a program.1 point
