If we are on course to continue to get curbstomped every time we play SMU, we hired the wrong coach.9 points

https://soonersports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/c.j.-noland/15466 6'2" 230 guard that likes to shoot the 3 but has the speed/power to drive into traffic when it's open. Reminds me of Huntsberry in a lot of ways, other than assists. Wonder how he slots into the lineup. Probably coming off the bench, but we'll see. Hodge and company are doing some serious work on the recruiting trail. This team is going to have a lot of quality depth7 points

Tell this to everyone in the Big12 who has benefitted from being in the same conference with Texas and OU. YES!! Conference affiliation matters. I'd rather be in the conference with them while getting our butts kicked than not. Playing against good teams brings interest, which brings more casual fans that might turn into serious fans and donors. If we are always running from competition then why even compete in the first place?6 points

Gonna take some work to get all these pieces working together but that’s today’s CBB. Would rather have the pieces than not.6 points

HUGE addition. This is the kind of recruiting we were all hoping for with coach Mac. This guy isn’t your normal high-major transfer we get (dudes who aren’t playing much). He played in most of OUs games the past few years, routinely in the 15-25min/gm range.6 points

Wow this was a surprise. This team could be incredibly good again. Very excited.6 points

I’m really not out here trying to defend FAU, but he mostly cares about basketball and he tries to say they had countless super seniors lol. FAU basketball is incredibly young…. He says UAB is the only threat when we just beat them to win the NIT lol. He simply doesn’t know anything about the new teams and I really hope his precious basketball team gets its ass kicked by these legit basketball teams we have coming from CUSA.5 points

You seem like a pretty smart guy, but any UNT fan with half a brain knows that Al Hurley didn't give two 5hitz about athletics. He wanted the benefits of athletics without giving the department a dime. So yes in that respect he took money that rightfully belonged to athletics.5 points

8. Sam Houston Even though Sam Houston ranks near the bottom of Conference USA, don't be surprised if this team easily exceeds this prediction. For starters, coach KC Keeler is 85-27 with the Bearkats, including a FCS title in 2020. Also, the team wisely redshirted a handful of players with an eye to '23 and beyond as it made the move to FBS. Defense should be the strength of Sam Houston's first team at the FBS level, as this unit boasts preseason Athlon Sports second-team All-C-USA selections in Markel Perry (DL), Trevor Williams (LB) and Jordan Morris (CB). The offense has question marks up front (only one returning starter) and needs to find an answer at quarterback (potentially North Texas transfer Grant Gunnell). The more I think about it, the more disturbing it is to see this messaging coming from @TheReal_jayD If this is how our staff is thinking, already putting out excuses before they've played even a single down in a real game, we are in big trouble.4 points

You don't want to jump up to a new conference and then immediately see the best teams leave. It's in the AAC's and UNT's best interest that SMU remains a member. I want UNT to play in the best possible conference. If that means there are 1 or 2 really tough games, then so be it.4 points

Exactly. We could have stayed in 1-A but Hurley took the cheap route and we dropped to 1-AA.4 points

Are you saying that Athletics has never had a budget? How did they operate? Who paid the salaries? Hurley took most of the money that had been previously budgeted for Athletics and spent it on improving the quality of education.4 points

Agreed, and if you read a few of his comments you will quickly come to realize that he is just spouting personal opinions as his "facts" are anything but.4 points

I love the idea of making Homecoming against an opponent people might actually care about and/or have actually heard about. This program has to start to capitalize on these opportunities if we want any sustained fan support. Homecoming is always a good crowd, and a win over Memphis will carry more weight than a win over Temple. We have to quit thinking so small and always wanting to schedule patsies we think we can beat for these types of games and schedule good programs and still expect to win.3 points

Nothing wrong with being a Memphis homer, but he lost me with that roster/eligibility tweet.3 points

Smut was 7-6 last year. All their $$ didn't show up on the scoreboard. I really doubt they can buy their way into relevance. And even if they win, they still have no fans in the stands. A media nobody.3 points

Washington and Oregon aren’t staying in a conference with SMU for long. PAC 12 will morph into a “MWC+” at best. Stanford and Cal are likely to leave also. So you are most likely looking at a “PAC 12” with the only holdovers that actually were P5 before 2010 of Oregon State and Washington State. That conference would not be significantly better than the current AAC if at all.3 points
