Baseball is cool and all, but let's get Football, our actual revenue generator right before we address baseball.11 points

My name is Doug Rush and I am president of the group trying to bring back baseball to U.N.T. We are hoping to find the funds from ex players, baseball people in the D.F.W. area, and beyond to fund baseball and bring it back in the next 3 years or so as opposed to the "20 year plan". We would love to have any support you can give us. We will be having several events in the next few months leading off with being part of the Homecoming Tailgate. We will have a web page up soon and are looking at several avenues to raise awareness and funds. And to hopefully put some pressure on the university to add baseball in what is one of the top baseball talent hot beds in the nation.11 points

The Mean Green Baseball Project is off to a tremendous start. Made up of a collection of former North Texas baseball players, this group is determined to bring baseball back to campus. Formed as an advocacy group, MGBP will be raising funds and spending money to make others aware of the need to Bring It Back! If you have a few dollars to spare, please consider supporting this endeavor. https://www.gofundme.com/f/mean-green-baseball-project?qid=206175d5e8415dc2f30e6c258500cc398 points

UNTLifer. I have heard that. And it is probably true. But, I sure don't see that being played out at virtually every other university. Most seem to have an even number of sports or one or two more women's sports as opposed to UNT which is presently at 10 and 6 and says we have to be at 12 and 7 to have baseball? But, I don't want to argue that. We are more than willing to help bring along another sport or two for women if that is what is required. We want ALL sports to be very successful at U.N.T. We just happen to love baseball and believe that sport has an incredible chance at immediate success given the talent pool and lack of scholarships that is afforded baseball teams. This promotes parity and gives mid majors a very good chance at success. Especially in the DFW area. Did you know 8 of the last 12 4a,5a, and 6a baseball state champions reside in a 30 mile radius of the U.N.T. campus? We happen to believe a successful baseball program in the south only enhances the reputation of the university and puts us in a better position in the future with the changing landscape of college athletics.8 points

I like the idea, just want to make sure it is done right and not hastily. TBH I wish we brought back our men's soccer team- apparently they used to be really good! (and coach by Hedlund...)7 points

I honestly think Texas will win that game by as many points as they want to. That defense is salty, and with the way the Texas O-Line pushed around Bama, it may not even matter who Texas plays at QB against UTSA.7 points

They struggled to beat a mediocre Army. I think Texas will handle them okay.7 points

I’m a big proponent of bringing baseball to UNT. I think we would be competitive fairly quickly. The amount of baseball talent in the area is insane. The AD has said that it will take several million dollars to get a program up and running. I notice you have a goal of $50k. Not being difficult but what exactly does $50k accomplish?6 points

Doug I admire your passion. Question, does your initiative address how the University will fund the Title 9 additions that could be required?5 points

One is a generic feather. The other is the back half of the SOW logo. They are not the same5 points

The Mean Green defensive secondary “Finds itself” and intercepts two passes and breaks-up a late touchdown pass to hold on to a 37-35 Victory. GO MEAN GREEN!!! WIN GAMES!!!!!!!!!4 points

I really want to pick North Texas because I do think they have enough. But I don't know if the coaching staff will slow tempo and win time of possession. I think I have to say 34-31 Bad Guys, but I hope I'm wrong.4 points

MGNation92. I would love to see football get right. We have been trying for a long, long, long, long time. I would also like to see your numbers on it being a revenue generator in regards to expenses. And I mean every expense. Coaches salaries, cost of scholarships. Cost to maintain stadium. Band and Cheer and Dance Team travel to away games. Equipment. Food. Every single expense that has to do with football and then all the revenue. Is it a money generator at U.N.T.? I don't know. I think 35 years has been long enough to wait on football to get right at the expense of baseball.4 points

El Paso Eagle. We are addressing Title 9. We are for adding Women's Volleyball and attaching that complex to the baseball stadium along with also making the stadium a venue for concerts since Denton has such a vibrant music scene. A 1,500 seat stadium with berms on each side for grass seating for students, etc. would be perfect for games and concerts. The sand volleyball courts can be down the right or left field line and could be used during games for a "minor league feel". Also, we would be more than willing to have that stadium be used for an additional growing women's sport-- college flag football (or Lacrosse). So, we are keeping all this in mind when we approach people. In addition a stadium that could also house concerts, etc. might be a venue the City of Denton could be involved with financing also? I do admit I do not quite understand when we already have 10 women's sports and only 6 men's sports that we need to add two more women's sports like I have been told? Baseball is only 11.7 scholarships if fully funded and I need an explanation of how that would require us to go up to 12 women's sports and only 7 for men. BUT, we do have ideas for adding women's sports too.4 points

10,000 percent. He began to see himself as bigger than the program. He, in his own words, was “untouchable” in his mind. He thought he could not be fired because he was too important. He thought wrong.4 points

Texas' defense is a monster lineup. They did get chewed up closer to the end of the Alabama game, but they are basically going to tear through UTSA's offense like 1-ply toilet paper4 points

I think they can win and I hope they do. Texas has an overly inflated sense of confidence after they played Alabama close in what may have been the most undisciplined game Nick Saban has ever coached. Traylor will want to beat Texas because he was let go from there as an assistant several years ago. It’ll make it even sweeter when we ruin their season again later this year.4 points

Wren Baker obviously doesn't look to this board for advice. If he did we'd be talking about how great it was to win our third National Championship last season.4 points

Shouldnt this thread be named "Tony goes to Vegas" since its literally just a tweet of him lol4 points

I don't even think we need a new basketball arena--the Super Pit is still a great venue, especially when it's got more than a few thousand in it. That place was built at a time when acoustics pushed straight down to the floor.3 points

So is the football talent. The argument that UNT would immediately be a baseball power is extremely optimistic and misleading, IMO.3 points

Football has 85 scholarships by itself. The extra women's sports help offset this number. It is the number of scholarships offered not sports offered.3 points

Yes. Bill Snyder, who wanted the NT head coaching job when Hayden left, comes to mind as a pretty good assistant that became a successful head coach.3 points

This is a little funny because I would assume Texas A&M and Notre Dame fans said the exact same thing last week.3 points

I think UTSA has a decent shot. Teams typically play like garbage following a major game and UTSA will be motivated. Alabama almost lost to a bad Florida team at the beginning of last season, so it's way too early to get enamored with UT.3 points

Best of luck to those guys but this is a zero star topic for me. I don’t fault them for going to leaving. Not happy about it but with this mediocre coach you can expect this to happen often. Starters on teams competing for conference titles are not usually leaving your program. 🤷🏽♂️3 points

If they knew that a mediocre coach with zero trophies with an overall record of sub 0.500 against FBS competition wouldn’t be starting season 7. 🤷🏽♂️ It is pointless to worry about any other geographical G5 rival getting the house in order when our leadership doesn’t clean its own house.3 points

While Texas' defense played an awesome game against Bama, I think their actual defense is being overhyped a bit. They had Patterson game-planning specifically for Bama for the past 3 months. Let me rephrase, they hired Patterson to watch hundreds of hours of Bama film to create the perfect gameplan. I'd say it worked. They won't have that benefit for the rest of their schedule. We'll see how they look after the physical and emotional beating they took last week. Logically, the talent gap should be great enough that it doesn't matter but we've seen enough upsets that I'd say a UTSA upset is possible.3 points

At the end of the day it's up to him. He's absolutely been one of the best college football coaches during the past 2 decades. The question is what is his motivation. Does he still want to spend the time and energy on football and not other things? Everything on the interwebs and news makes it sounds like he's done with the 24x7 grind and is only involved part-time at Texas. If he's all-in, you'd be crazy not to consider him. If he's not, you'd be crazy to.3 points

Breaking news. Young alphamale athletes who know they're good have an ego. Take a look at the field around you. There's plenty of individualism going on, especially amongst the top players with all the NIL stuff going on. I'd understand if there was criminal activity going on but that's not the case. If you want top tier talent, you're going to have to deal with some egos. It's up to the coaches to learn how to address those egos and keep them focused on the field.3 points
