  1. Unfortunately the wheels seem to have fallen off a bit. I had the chance to talk to her a few years ago at an away football game. She was just sitting in the regular North Texas section. She LOVES North Texas. I assure you no one is more disappointed than her with the way things are going.

  2. I’m so saddened and disheartened by this. I have experienced the same in my visits with her. She cares about this place so much and yet I also realize that she must be held accountable by Wren. I just hate to see her have to go through the process that is coming. She is an alumnus and we wanted her so badly to succeed.

  3. Trieb is the best in my book but Kaghen Roach and Cam Robertson also arouse interest. Maybe we won't miss the Murphy twins very much this season.

  4. The 'Flying Worm' has been used off and on for decades, and yet Rick Spears (the creator) is not in the athletic hall of fame ......pitiful.

  5. Can’t argue that. We are the only FBS/FCS school that I’m aware that just flat out won’t even consider athletics to be the main window to the university. Won’t do it…whereas La Tech, a very proud program within a pissant university and region, puts all their pride into their sports. I will be ready for all the negatives you can post and downvotes you want to give, but I don’t care about music or arts. I don’t watch the Green Brigade march because I don’t care. I only care about them playing music during the game, like the Fight Song and Alma Mater and whatever fanfare they play. Don’t care at all about anything else. Never have. Here’s the thing, I know I’m in the vast minority of UNT fans on this, but I also know that I’m in the vast majority of college football fans. Music and arts don’t draw eyeballs or dollars that equate to any measurable rate as compared to football and basketball. Misplaced values? Probably. Misplaced interest in North Texas? From a financial standpoint and a pride standpoint, there’s no argument—like none.

  7. Today, I was listening to NPR's "Here and Now" when they began thanking their sponsors. I was gobsmacked when they announced The University of North Texas. What was the selling point of the UNT ad? Tier One status? Numerous nationally ranked programs? Affordable tuition? A football program that is the envy of the nation? None of the above. The ad said we have a allergen free dining hall and also offer numerous vegan options all over campus. Who is the target audience? If it is potential students, I would estimate the number of high school students that listen to this program to be the square root of zero. Perhaps it is aimed at their parents? At any rate, I was slightly confused by this.

  8. Trust me, if this was like La Tech’s situation, the NT Daily, Reddit, and our Facebook page would be flooded with the same thing.

  9. That classroom on the left looks to be 3x brighter and twice as dry as the UNT weight room we used circa 1985. Compare that to a picture in the GAB or various other newer buildings on campus around the same time and you'd have the reverse of what's being presented here.

  12. I didn't see the dad's tweet, but the two classes immediately after theirs were ranked #2 and #1 in the conference. In terms of timing, the players in these two classes should start becoming significant contributors next season. If he really wants more exposure for his sons and some potential NIL $ that is more likely to come from a P5 school, he should just say so instead of trying to pawn his decision of on someone else. If this is the best for them, then I don't think anyone has an issue with the decision and will be happy for them if they are successful. Saying the coaches are doing nothing to add "good players" is completely inconsistent with how the last two recruiting classes were rated.

  14. Hayden Fry was a master at rebranding and changing a school's athletic image (and culture), both at NT and Iowa. He was ahead of his time at NT. Fry pushed to get NT into the SWC and almost did. We had a new Super Pit in 1973 and were starting to use a new Texas Stadium in 1974 for our bigger games. But old nesters at NT and Denton, used to the small college scene, were not ready then for the bigger stage and Major College sports. I believe it was either new school president Al Hurley or AD/coach Bob Tyler that made the decision not to fight the NCAA's demotion of NT to 1-AA status for football starting in 1983. We were taken out of 1-A in football and changed back to Eagles for our logos, uniforms and nickname. It was a truly sad time for NT fans overall. But finally, common sense (marketing) prevailed many years later and the Mean Green nickname eventually returned. The Flying Worm was and is our Texas Longhorn of logos. It should return also! While the new Son of Worm is fine, it is not unique nor actually ours like the Flying Worm is...someone found the SOW image pictured on an older Australian fighter jet before we ever started using it. Yes, bring back the Worm, permanently!

  16. I wholeheartedly agree with Mean Green Matt and Greengal. I have spoken to her and it's obvious she really cares. Sometimes I wish that one of Grant's assistants would just go over and help her just for a little while until the ship can be righted. There was such a high expectation for this team this year and it seems nothing is working right now.

Also held offers from Rice, AFA, Penn and TX Southern https://247sports.com/Player/Mohammed-Bility-46095072/ https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/2022-DB-Mohammed-Bility-signs-with-North-Texas-Mean-Green-football-182177340/ Bility has a versatile background with experience at corner and safety for North Dallas high school. Look for the Mean Green staff to find any and every way possible to get Bility on the field as he aims to maximize his potential. He also runs track, with impressive times in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. Now, he’s just happy to get it over with and embrace his bright future. "Overall, it feels great to put pen to paper finally,” Bility said. “This is a surreal moment, and heck, I even teared up while signing because this opportunity means so much to me.”

  18. They seem to lose confidence easily. It also seems to be a different issue each game. Turnovers killed us against WKU. Free throws have been an issue other times. Defense has been an issue others. The coaching term for this is "chasing the fleas around the dog". It is frustrating as a coach when you focus on a problem, fix it, and then a new problem comes up or maybe one you fixed three weeks ago comes back. I also wonder how much her assistant coaches leaving each year hurts the continuity of the team.

  21. You could easily have a decent NIL program going. If you read what industry people say, not what hysterical news articles say, the NIL amounts are not crazy outside of the top 1% of talent. For top spenders this just took the old under the table money out to the open. The real change is that it allows the majority of schools, who were not doing that kind of cheating, a chance to compete. The posters on this board alone kicking in $100/month could make a huge difference. The guy who used to own Pancho's is a UNT alum, go hit that guy up. Please get your act together before changing conferences

  22. (1) Tom Trieb for me, too, Jack. We might have to ask Randy White’s permission to call Trieb—“the Manster.” 😳In his below video, watch that 270 pound goat ropin’ son of a gun chase down a running back downfield. Amazing. ••• Trieb is 6’3” 270; unbelievable speed at that size; can even play fullback in special goal line situations or a “1 yard for a 1’st down” scenario. (2) QB Stone Earle; a transfer from ACU is tied with Trieb as my #1 choice. QB Head from Friendswood/LaTech is up there too. QB Earle is mobile & accurate with 3 years eligibility left. He’s in class at UNT now. (Even heard Bryce Drummond is making progress; maybe from Harry or the Real Jay D)? ••• Tom Trieb was the #8 ranked JUCO Defensive Lineman in America. (What a catch for North Texas). * Check out Trieb’s video https://247sports.com/Player/Tom-Trieb-46054978/ ••• Once 9 UNT scholarships are given to Portal transfers in the next several weeks we should not be surprised if this class equals or exceeds last years “the Best of CUSA” group. ___________________________ Celebration Time! 23. And just think, there once was a time when the weightroom and handball court under Fouts were good enough for NT to get Joe Greene, Steve Ramsey, Ronnie Shanklin, Cedric Hardman, Glenn Holloway, Barry Moore, Leo Taylor, James Ivey, Leonard Dunlap, Charles Beatty, Willie Parker....I guess the other schools just had worse facilities. Oh, and bronze medalist, Bill Schmidt, all the way from PA to Denton.

  25. It will have been 10+ degrees above freezing for over 5hrs before tip off tomorrow. Today's sun is already doing a good job melting the street slush/snow here in Plano. Also will get above freezing for 2 or so hours just before sun down today. They absolutely should not cancel/move the game.

  26. Agreed. It was a shame he wasn't recognized prior to his passing. Regarding the "Flying Worm", it seems to me that it figured prominently, along with the apple green, in our social media announcements of recruits/commits. Any chance they are bringing it back as our logo for our football uniforms? It seems our current eagle logo wasn't used much during the season.

  27. Ever look back at some of our past classes? We won the 2014 HOD Bowl with our 2013 seniors, etc... Go back and look that the classes from '08 and '09. Class of '08: Our top recruit was Riley Dodge. The next seven either barely contributed, never made it on campus or left due to injury. After Riley, the biggest contributor was our 8th ranked recruit, Royce Hill, who had a .8319 rating followed by Lance Dunbar with a .8274 rating. The were sixteen recruits ranked below Dunbar and I think one or two really contributed. Class of '09: Signed 19 young men and our highest rated recruit was OT Jeremy Bean (.8333). You have to scan down to our 11th rated commitment to find the first young man that had a solid career and that would be DE Ryan Boutwell with a rating of .7889. A couple spots below him was a young man out of Glen Rose named Derek Thompson (2 star - .7889). Not to hurt any feelings, but their aren't many memorable names in the remainder of that class. Class of '10: National Rank 117/CUSA #10. This class included Antonio Johnson (.7933) as our top recruit and included Y'Barbo (.7870), Zach Orr (.7667), Brandin Byrd (.7444), Olawale (.7444), Will Wright (.7333), Big Rich Abbe (.7333) and the second to lowest rated recruit in the class base on state ranking, Brelan Chancellor (.7333) Class of '11: National Rank 109/CUSA 9. Top ranked player was Freddy Wariner (.8216) and I think injuries kept him from ever contributing. The top ranked recruits that contributed were Aaron Bellazin (.7667) and TE Marcus Smith (.7667). After Bellazin, most recruits were assigned a rating of .7333, so going on state ranking, our next highest rated contributor was probably our #6 recruit, DE Daryl Mason, followed two spots behind by OL Cyril Lemon, then DT Alex Lincoln, LB Derek Akunne, DE/OLB Chad Polk, and RB Antoinne Jimmerson. The craziest part of this class was the S Laramie Lee was ranked below Andrew McCar..McNulty. Bottom of the class included DB Zac Whitfield and TE Andrew Power. Others to note: '14 Jeff Wilson (2 star - .7676), '13 S James Jones (2 star - .7000), '13 WR Turner Smiley (2 star - .7398), The rankings are great and catch people's eye, but they are all based on high school production. Let's welcome these young men and see how they work out.

  28. I know, I didn’t like it either, Keith. I also didn’t like the UNT running back’s parting shots at the very school who first took a chance on him with a full ride scholarship & then he defected to SMU. (His parting words almost sounded scripted). Still, we can wish the Twins a happy landing. After all, they (& Coach Phil Bennett) play a part in turning our “D” around from the previous disastrous season. Still, the Portal has been abused to the max from it’s original purpose. So we now know how a jilted spouse feels after she puts her husband thru Medical school only to have him come back & say: “God bless ya’ honey—it’s been a fun ride, but I’ve now moved up the social ladder, but thanks for everything. I know negative on GMG is the route even when good stuff is happening in Denton yet we still have to go thru a 100 year litany of why we don’t even deserve good; but I guess my beef 🥩 with all this is will this thread be at the top of the page “1” year from now as we allow this subject to occupy free rent in our memory bank? 🦅

  29. There was a digital billboard on 75 in Dallas for a while that advertised we were ranked #2 in the country in dining for college campuses. I have a teen who loves to stuff her face but it certainly felt like an odd thing to try and sell potential students on...

  30. Oh! 35. Different people are doing different sports. Luke Della does MBB as the head person on social media as well as some photography, Mason Ponder does the majority of video, and Zach Del Bello does majority of basketball but also does all UNT sports for the athletic department. Football is ran by different people and stuff like that, but some do multiple sports.

  39. General observation that I am probably overthinking -- Last year there was something like 300+ less HS players signing in FBS/FCS. This year there was/is again the expectation that fewer HS players would sign overall. In theory, shouldn't there have been a lot more players available, and therefore potentially higher rated platers? Yet, our HS players, while possibly diamonds in the rough, are not as highly rated.

  40. This. I can see G5 needing to move towards being portal heavy to get the guys who aren't getting the playing time they want and/or are being pushed out of their big school to make room for new incoming transfers. I'm fine with it. Get guys with 2 or 3 years left who have already been in a D1 weight room and might be more college ready. Plus, if I'm not mistaken they wouldn't be able to transfer out since they'd already transfered once so it protects us as well. Frankly, it's similar to the Juco route Kansas State somewhat made a living of for 2 decades. SL and this staff have done really well at recruiting the past 2 seasons. I don't think this year is because some high school kids "see the writing that he's on the way out" like some of our fans think. I doubt most even think or know about that until the coach is actually gone. I think SL is just seeing the direction college football is going and adjusting early.

  42. Keep in mind we have 17 scholarship redshirt freshmen. Due to COVID, both our 2020 HS signing class and 2021 HS signing class both were considered true freshmen last season. 2022 was always going to be a small class of HS players because there was one giant superclass of two classes combined directly ahead of them. That’s something to keep in mind. Is this strategy circumstantial or the new blueprint? I think a mix of both. I do think we go more portal heavy going forward but I also expect more like 15-20 HS signees in future classes like we were used to.

  43. There's a few of us that workout under the #UNTMEANGREEN tag you can assign to yourself pre-workout. I stumbled upon it one day when looking at other local tags. As expected there's a whopping 24 members, but none the less I'm still repping the Mean Green during workouts. We have a Tread and a OG Bike. Wish I had the old Tread+ before they figured out it was eating children. Slatted like the Tread+ are the bomb. Our two Pelotons might be the only things that keep me moderately in shape lately.

  44. If we don't do something, yes. The rules of the game must change if that's the case. Body bag games? Just went up - more $ or we want a % of the gate. Two for ones in scheduling? Turn the other way - you come to us now. NCAA has to do something or why are we wasting our resources? I'm all for the free market exchange of players, with some light rules in place, but its not just the players that need to be enriched here, it's the farm system as well.
