It's one thing for SMU to blow past us by taking advantage of the transfer portal, which they have done better that nearly everyone. How did UTSA leave us in the dust with a first year coach? How does a 6th year UNT coach save his job with 4 or 5 wins? Is the world really flat?10 points

I just posted about this too! Seth has gradually lost me over the last couple of years with the lack of progression as a program. I’m hoping he can turn around the program, but we were hoping for the same exact thing 5 years ago. Our goals for on field performance really haven’t changed all too much. We hope that we can compete with some of the better teams in the conference and compete for a bowl game. I hope I look stupid in the next few weeks once the season begins to take shape10 points

I criticize SL because my loyalty is to the school not to him. He’s had ample time to turn this thing around, he was rewarded prematurely, on the belief that he was only going to get better. It is starting to look like he’s reached his ceiling or already peaked. For the record I want him to turn it around but I’m not going to make excuses for him.9 points

I have apparently an unique idea, let the season play out before we fire the whole athletic department. I think some of you will be disappointed if NT wins more than 3 games.7 points

Just like Ohio State won't actually say the name of "Michigan"...they will only call them "that team up north." Sure sounds like SMU sees this as a rivalry.7 points

Everything else you wrote isn’t even a factor. They are 41-53 since joining CUSA. By your post they are Boise State. We beat them 45-3 two years ago. I’d argue we’re almost the same programs struggling to be relevant in a state crowded with college football teams. G5 is all about coaching hires. Period.6 points

Please Littrell P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!! Please make the game competitive in University Park on Saturday. For sh*t's sake...Can we just NOT get blown out and completely destroyed? I don't think that's too much to ask for our 6th year head coach. I'm so sick of the embarrassing lack of Littrell's team's competitiveness when we play good teams.6 points

Look, you're obviously a homer who can't face the facts that Jayaire Shorter and KD Davis are both garbage players. We've already seen what they can do. It's time for them to take a seat for the super transfer kids who were previously backing up Alabama's Biletnikoff frontrunner & Clemson's Nagurski frontrunner!1!! They're only here because they weren't going to get any playing time behind those guys, but both were top 15 high school recruits at their positions 3 years ago!!!1!1! We're lucky to have #ASDF & Test? here in Denton now.6 points

The defense caused the turnovers. To play “what if” is crazy. “What if” passes hadn’t been dropped. “What if” our reserve backs hadn’t been tackled. We could go and on.6 points

So I've shown this before, but it gets more fun each year. 9 years ago, we started celebrating "College Colors Day" at the office, and back then, everyone just showed up with a T-Shirt...Over the years, it grew to people bringing tailgate snacks, then desk decorating contests, then your teams "Pod" decorating contest, then we actually set up an indoor tailgate inside a big studio area that we have... The past few years, its evolved into a month long, single elimination corn-hole tournament...You find your opponent and play then when you get a break at work, ultimately culminating to the Championship Game, in front of the entire office at the Indoor Tailgate. The company caters in Wings, and all of the employees bring Pot-Luck side dishes. Prizes given out for best foods, most spirited costume, etc. It's a great event that's really got steam behind it. Enjoy some pics. Alot of decor complete with a full mock-up stadium with thousands of fans snapping pics with their cameras....See video below... BTW, the two finalists for the Championship Game are both UNT grads.... IMG_5206.MP45 points

Let's tap the breaks on how UTSA is bound for great things and moving to the AAC and then onto the SEC (I know its wasn't mentioned). UTSA very well might be headed in an upward trajectory and Coach Traylor is bound for greatness but lets not forget when Frank Wilson came in and won 6 games his first year, everyone thought he was the second coming of Jesus. Everyone was scared because of how great of a recruiter he was but ultimately that stalled out and he's coaching FCS now. UTSA was a total of 9 points away from losing 4 games last year. Would we be freaking out if they would of won 4 or 5 games last year? UTSA is gonna UTSA and figure out a way to fail. If not and they keep winning Traylor is going onto Greener pastures and is going to leave the shit hole behind him to dry up and just be another pasture rock in south Texas.5 points

This is year 6 of Seth and we are right back where we were in 2016. “Hopefully we make a bowl game” status, while UTSA and SMU continue to progress as programs. I don’t care who we have, we should be competing for the Conference Championship year-in and year-out. With Seth, I think that is unlikely this year. Before I get downvoted, I was a Seth defender until last year. I hope I look like an idiot in the next few weeks.5 points

Okay hardcore Green Backers come on down to my Town. Nice when the Mean Green play in the neighborhood. Plans are firming for an easy to remember bounce around strategy: 9:00a - 11:00a Blackfriars Pub on McKinney Avenue - breakfast brews with Man U watch party. The other futbol and Ronaldo’s debut. 11:00a - 3:00p Christie’s on Greenville: 3 levels of impressive football watching options, good food, including an open air rooftop bar 3:30p - 5:30p Alumni Party at Barley House 5:30p - March to Ford 6:00p - Go Mean Green!!! Easy close Uber rides to all locations. Early arrivers jump in wherever and let’s turn Dallas’ social scene green. GMG5 points

I am concerned about the drop off at RB too. Aside from a long runs for a TD, the two young guys were tackled at the line of scrimmage or for 2 yards. I expected something different from the fall camp reports. Agreed that Ruder was behind on those two exact routes. He didn't have any safety over the top, so he could have led the wr instead of trying to be so precise. Those deep passes, Ruder didn't look anywhere else, it looked like a set pass regardless of coverage.. i thought the wrs pulled up too early and ended up having to reach behind/above because they were them looking at the QB. I'm happy football is back! Georgia is hit with covid positives.. 4 starters? UAB may get lucky in timing.5 points

Aune was 2 for 5. 2 Burns drops away from 4 for 5 with a TD. The other was called a PI I think, right after the Burns 40+ yard pass. Even that play could have been considered positive. Ruder had some passes dropped, too. Aune passes just looked sharper than Ruder is all. With a small sample size when the game is well in hand, that’s probably easy to do. I wouldn’t look too much into it, right now and I trust Littrell to play the right one. I’m happy NWS only scored 14. I think they had at least one TD, maybe 2, called back for a penalty if I remember correctly.5 points
-
Agreed. I believe Ruder is our best chance at a winning record this season, but he threw the exact same ball a little earlier in the game and got away with it when it only got batted down. He’s either got to look the DB off of it and/or have better ball placement on the pass. And especially he should’ve learned from the first one. Now, I also would’ve liked for SOMEONE (OC/HC) to have seen that earlier throw and the DBs aggression on the route and called for a double-move, but I think we were running vanilla in this game. It also might have been intentional to see if Ruder could/would adjust. He didn’t.5 points

Don't hit me when I say this but Seth's successful 1st and 2nd years were accomplished with a few pretty good players that McCarney recruited here. Plus, he had some good assistant coaches and recruiters. How did we fall so fast?4 points

Personally, I thought NSU played with a lot of confidence and pure grit. I was most impressed with their QB and how pretty unshakable he was. Their two leading RB's were (IMHO) good enough to be in our RB rotation, and their WR's/DB's were outstanding.4 points

I'll even go a little further and break down why some of us are a little concerned about Ruder's passing ability (at least the things I saw that concerned me): 2-3 of those "drops", were passes that receivers had to adjust & come back to because they were underthrown. He's gotta put some more on those passes. If every pass was like that TD beauty he threw Burns, we'd all be saying "Aune who?". Then, there were at least 2 deep passes along the sideline that I watched our receivers have to go out of bounds to even have an opportunity to catch. He's gotta give his receivers a chance to catch those in bounds. Accuracy is a concern. In the handful of passes Aune had, he appeared to be slightly more accurate. Including that 30 yd bomb to Burns. If Ruder doesn't get his accuracy up, the SMU secondary is gonna make him pay, and he'll find himself on the bench.4 points

The defense forced 3 turnovers, was explosive in how they put pressure on Fletcher, and held their all Conference running back to under 100 yards. We won by 30. There are lots of problems to address before we go to Dallas but give some credit to guys like Stout and Gaddie who clearly showed their skill sets and involvement have improved.4 points

On a more positive note Gabe Blair basically started the game at left guard next to Cole Brown. On the 2nd UNT series he had a terrific block down that opened up that huge Torrey run for 32 yards. He’s going to be a great player.4 points

Exactly! It's all just a game. Embrace the fun and enjoy then goofiness. And, if you could, just maybe beat the ever loving trust-fund out of SMU while we are at it4 points

Some impressions from the game (also re-watched the ESPN 3 broadcast): Defense is definitely improved, in every aspect. Tackling, speed, pressure, etc. Yes, we gave up a lot of yards, but ultimately, only gave up 14 points... It's been a LONG time since we've given up that few points to any level of competition. As someone else mentioned, "bend don't break". (As apposed to the "shatter don't break" from several former defensive coordinators.) Additionally, the defense seemed to look very comfortable... Not a lot of confusion, no defensive time outs because they didn't have the right personnel, and overall played very disciplined. Our run game remains TBD in my opinion. After our pre-season injury, Torrey stepped up and had a great game, however, the trenches is one area that really separates FCS from FBS. If he has a decent game against SMU, we will be fine, and I think he'll have a career year. This is stating the obvious, but the receivers have to come down with the ball. One or two drops total per game is to be expected, but this was one or two drops per receiver. As far as QB play, Ruder looks to me, like an improved Derek Thompson. I say that for a few reasons... 1) Ruder seemed to "lock on" to his targets... I didn't seem much in the way of looking his receivers open, pump fakes, etc. Perhaps it was the DB coverage, but he seemed to throw to his guy. Additionally, some of the throws were a bit soft. I assume its timing issues that will be worked out, but Derek Thompson never really did a great job of hitting anyone in stride, and I saw the same thing from Ruder. Now note, this isn't a huge criticism, as Derek Thompson was a pretty serviceable CUSA quarterback. But, truth be told, I was expecting a little more. I thought Aune's passes looked better, but he was also hurt by the dropped passes, and we only saw limited action late in the game. For next week, we are really going to have to execute well. We won't be able to get away with any missed tackles, blown coverage, etc. That's not to say there won't be big plays, I'm sure there will be, but we can't allow for big plays and touchdowns. We'll need to find ways to limit the damage. On offense, we will need to methodically control the clock and rely on the play action pass for big gains. I liked what I saw in the 2nd half a lot more than what I saw in the 1st half against Northwestern State. If we can improve our play, I don't see us getting blown out.4 points
