Is there no Spring Game this year? Seems like an easy event to social distance at. They never pull too many.2 points

There's a copy of the first North Texas Normal School (1906) yearbook, then called the Cottontail, on ebay. 1906 North Texas Yearbook on ebay The seller displayed the interior pages, and the only listed sport was women's basketball. I selected a unique name from the team, Cosette Faust, for light research just to see whatever happened to some of these people. It seems that Cosette, born in 1889, went on to have an extraordinary and extremely eccentric life, including exotic world travels, and epic battles with city hall. She, along with her antics, are minor legends in Dallas, and were profiled in a D Magazine feature as one of the "40 Greatest Stories in Dallas History". https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/1977/november/the-prisoner-of-highland-park/1 point

These are good points, and thanks for correcting the omission of the football precedent. I do think the fact of some sports being, by their very name "women's", poses the greatest issue. I honestly would watch womens softball in preference to the generally all male baseball, and would hate the see the essence of it changed due to issues around gender preference. That is my personal feeling however, and I think a lot of this will be resolved on a sport by sport basis.1 point

Agreed. I think something really adding to the fear here is this happening at the same time as all of the senior class getting an extra year of eligibility. We have an entire extra class of student-athletes retaining eligibility who normally would be on their way out making room for HS athletes and JUCOs. That’s creating an overflow of athletes available for essentially the same amount of roster spots. Would Jalen Jackson and Mykell Robinson be transferring if Thomas Bell, JJ Murray, and Jahmiah Simmons had vacated their spot on the roster like they would have in a normal year? Not sure, but it’s happening all across the country and it’s necessitating transfers if teams want to keep their guys, or other teams’ seniors. As long as P5 schools don’t get to raise their scholarship limit, it will all even out.1 point

Maybe he doesn’t want to play for a fan base that says this of him and his teammates during the critical minutes of a conference championship game that they went on to win. “The starters are done. They are done. They aren’t going to get you the win.”1 point

Yeah. At this point, it's old schtick, because it's the second year in a row she's done this. I mean, I admire her modesty, I guess, but the award is subjective, and to me it rings false. Just stay home next time if you don't want to be honored. But, I guess she thinks she's sticking it to the Grammy's. I think she's just embarrassing the also-rans, and grabbing more headlines. Possibly unintentionally.-1 points

Or did he? At least to maybe a few teammates? Very possible. Of course then this board also ran with it. I would like to have a one on one conversation with him, but it’s a confusing situation. Constantly moving from school to school just like job to job is not always a solid resume or trust builder.-1 points

I believe it is/was a valid concern based on the risk of energy, the freshness of their legs (see the shooting percentage and even the lack of defense). Yes in that moment I didn’t believe they needed to be out there. 2-3 minutes of rest makes all the difference in closing out games and any scholarship college player should be able to work with others on the court to Atleast burn the clock and slow down the opposing offense. Even if you give up 3-5 points during a 3 minute stretch the difference can easily by made up with the starters back out there with the rest. I believe it was a valid opinion/concern. Depending on the coach they would to. Many different ways to look at it I suppose but Mac has made it clear he prides his clubs conditioning regiment and trusts it.-1 points

Their reach is global, I'm not sure where you could live to avoid that. The cartel that took control after El Chapos arrest is different than any before. The way they not only control Jalisco (and the one highway that goes north) but continue to expand and take over other areas is pretty scary actually. Their lust for control knows no bounds they even went after avocado farmers to get a piece of that pie. Drugs go north to feed America's insatiable habits, guns and cash go south so they can wage wars and it will only get worse. I don't know what the answer is but I can't think of a bigger waste of money other than NASA that has had billions of dollars poured in to it than the war on drugs.-1 points

“I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to join the Mean Green community and the women's basketball family at North Texas,” Carey said. “I have always had a great deal of respect for Coach Mitchell and how hard her teams compete. I'm looking forward to starting to build relationships with the players and staff and getting to work.” Apparently she was real excited, until her old boss called.-2 points
